Totally agree. I took a look at a snowflake just after Chisholm Hunter in Bluewater first began selling GS, so a fair while after the hype of them had spread. Whilst I thought the dial was every bit as gorgeous as the photos I'd seen, I was left feeling the whole package was a little sterile for my tastes (I know that will be the appeal for some of course), and I knew I'd get bored of it quite quickly.

The strap is one of Mickael's by the way (Atelier Romane). He's a member here. I bought it a while ago, but it's just been sitting in the strap drawer waiting for the right watch. I had a bit of a splurge late last night when I knew this was on its way, and ordered another of his (vintage blue pigskin), a couple of ColaReb straps, a Gekota mesh (already arrived!), and possibly a Hodinkee too - I lost track! :)

    Not sure about the mesh..

Not keen on the mesh if I'm honest. Doesn't do it any justice but does do it some disservice.

Looking at that picture of your duo and thinking of my BLNR and ND SubC. I feel like a Scouse lad in his finest designer shell suit stood next to a guy in a tailor made suit.

I rode my motorbike from Hertfordshire to Deacons in Swindon to try on two GS models about three years with the view of buying one. One was the Snowflake. This was before the boutique in London opened. Couldn't believe how underwhelming I was and that I'd spent hours getting here and had to ride hours home empty handed. My wife pissed herself.

It's not bad but I think it deserves a quality dark blue or grey leather strap. Looks great though!

That made me chuckle, because it rings true. When I was waiting for my Winter GS to turn up I started to have doubts, thinking it might look - if not effeminate, then perhaps just too delicate alongside my other watches. When it did arrive it had the opposite effect - it made my 1655 in particular that I’d previously thought was perfect seem brutish and simplistic by comparison.

[QUOTE=gcleminson;5330961]My second GS, and what a belter it is.

I'm not sure I've seen anything quite so perfect in a while, it is beautiful. I have no notion of GS, what is the diameter? The strap compliments it perfectly.

Thanks Nev. It’s 39mm / 19mm lugs. Quite pebble-like with its smooth surfaces and gently domed sapphire. The strap’s a 20mm that I managed to squeeze on.

I am a little particular, and this is one of the very few watches I have genuinely loved the look and feel of in the last 18 months. The finishing is unreal. Great to see a couple of these in the forum and I just could not resist having one of my own.

    It’s a Yacht-master 42
    Reference 226659

Dealer told me he had one last week. Having regretted not buying it this week he told me he has another, so now it’s mine.

Standard watch although they fitted the next size up strap to provide for some range as the standard size was on largest setting.

Like it a lot, might even be a keeper !

    That just stole my heart....
Even if 42 is way too small for my gorilla wrist....keep dreaming about your watch

Oops. More drunken eBay action, I have three incoming now: a Seiko Giugiaro “Ripley” style from Kyoto, a Mudmaster from Madrid and a new generation Arnie from London. I’m sure I’ll like at least one of them in the flesh. 😆

Thanks, it's in such great condition, plus recently serviced too, so really happy.

Just switched it over to the more aged nato below, but hoping to find a nicer strap for it.. The hunt is on! :)

Think I'm about 6.5" , it looks less quirky than many Vostocks , seems really good value for money to be honest . Bracelet is pretty dire though, would look nice on a note but I cant get on with them

So a Grand Seiko I had looked at was released, and when I looked at it in the daylight, just realized it wasn't for me.. fortunately they had a 'regular' (if you can call it that!) Snowflake, which I am delighted with.
Beautiful watch- well made, light, and an amazing dial. I'm now a GS fan...

Lovely watch, good choice but I'm intrigued as to which GS didn't make the cut?

Sunday is watch swap day, so yesterday it was out with the Tag F1 and in with the Newmark 71. This was first prize in the recent TZ charity raffle.

It looks good and wears very comfortable. The face is very easy to read and the lume can only be described as 'strong!'. I'm not sure how many of the 300 watches were sold in each combination so this black face / no date might be a rarity.
