Great pick up. I have been very tempted indeed by this and the Spring version. Lovely dials.

Spring looks more subtle (no bad thing), and I love the hint of cherry blossom pink when it catches the light in the right way.

If you do not mind me asking, how did you source the GS? I was in the States in October, in NYC and Boston, where ADs had sold out of yours and the Spring (vs the blue and green dials, which were still available).

I got in touch with a dealer in June very soon after they were announced. Must have been one of the first to register an interest.

It’s been waiting for me for more than a month but I was overseas.

Yeah I jumped on it cos I’ve been wanting to try a GS for a while but just waiting for the right one to come along. Another member kindly made the intro to a dealer down in the South.

Did you call into the GS boutique on Madison when you were in NYC? I was deeply underwhelmed when I visited recently.

The NYC boutique was indeed a bit small, but the salespersonís enthusiasm did a lot to offset that. Nice guy, great name - Weston Phillips III. I am hoping to get a Spring via the GS AD in Andover, MA, with a discount too!

Thank you, we've both had similar pick ups. Yours looks like a lot more effort has gone into it than mine. The brushed ceramic is lovely Very very nice indeed.

Thank you, was a bit of an impulse and now something else has to go to balance the books but it's lovely. The delights of SC.

I know the power reserve indicator can be a bit marmite for some folk (not sure why this is especially so for GS more than other brands - maybe because the dials are just so exquisite?), but I'd actually loose the date before the power reserve - in the metal I find it's not that intrusive.

That is stunning. But what's it like in the metal? I tried some on in FH in st pauls as they just got a new grand seiko stand and felt well of the watches were too polished and shiny for me

Yup, that one is a stunner. It had completely passed me by that they were doing an Ocean 1 chrono.

This has a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, a bit like a Speedmaster. The polished surfaces look like steel - I've never seen titanium polished to such a level of shine before. The brushed surfaces look slightly less grey than ti usually looks - this may be a by-product of the hardening process which I don't know very much about? Apparently the ti used on these is harder/more scratch-resistant than usual.

I've been trying it out on different straps since I got it as you do, and I was surprised to find that it looked good on a nato. I guess it feels somewhere between a sports watch and a dress watch, and definitely isn't too shiny to my eye.

A homage to the Seikosha Pilots watch from WW2

Just landed this Cheap n Cheerful Alpina GMT

OEM Canvas strap was underwhelming, but luckily I had an old Di Modell Chronissimo in the drawer.

It may be cheap & cheerful, but it's a very handsome watch IMHO. Looks very well engineered, as do many watches in the Alpina range, extremely good value for the money.

    Thanks.

From what Iíve read a ĎProfessionalí version was provided with yellow cadmium-coated hands for extra legibility when cockpits were lit by infra-red.

Interesting. I thought that only applied to the 145.036 911

I have no idea, to be honest. I’ve only just started looking into the Flightmasters.

Mine is a 145.013 and if you google that model reference there are plenty of photos of ones with yellow hands, and mentions of the cadmium hands.

    Here is an example... https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/br...vember-18-2016

Apparently, the red/yellow paint on the Chrono pushers also relates to the two colours of the Chrono hands available.

Yeah scrap that. Just had a look on C24 and there's a load of them.
