caved and went to watchfinder last night. But whilst I probably paid over the odds, I'm really pleased with this. 2016 is done for watches!

Surely the ultimate grab and go quartz watch and maybe proof that almost everything looks good on a bond nato?

Not mine. It belongs to a friend, he kindly let me model it. It was delivered to him today so technically an incoming. 😁

    What do you think??

I have been after a Seamaster 300 Vintage 165.024 for some time. I knew Tom (TomGW) had one which had been put together by a former Omega watchmaker. I have been bending Tom's ear via PMs and e-mails for the best part of a year now and he finally agreed to let me have it - I think it was his way of getting shut of me.

The watch came with an Omega 1171/1 SS bracelet with 633 end links and a brand new black shark skin strap. The lume is superb. A condition of the deal was that if I ever decide to move it on, Tom has to be given first dibs, which I was happy to agree to.

These watches are getting harder to find and prices on e-bay and Chrono24 are crazy to say the least.

A big thank you to Tom.

There is a reason these are eternally popular, every should have one. (Or two, eh Ken?)

Except the divisions would be harder to read quickly — so 30 mins makes it more useable from a practical point.

I've got a chrono with a 60 min subdial and it's a true pita trying to get an accurate reading off it. Never again.

Picked this up a few weeks ago from Luxe Watches in Essex. Very happy with it so far but slightly nervous about hitting it on something as its my biggest ever watch purchase by a fair few £s.

Took the gamble in the end as it's like NOS and came with an appropriate Fortis bracelet. Running pretty well so far considering it's been largely unworn for years. First fullish wind of the Lemania 5100 lasted 48hrs which bodes well I think, it gained 5 mins in the first 24hrs but has settled down and lost just 15 secs over the last 48hrs and seemingly getting better each day. Bit marmite I know but also a bit of fun/colour to go with its Stratoliner sibling. Thanks to Paul (walkerwek1958) for a bit of pre-purchase advice.
    Quick unsized bracelet pic.

Thanks Paul. I really rather like it. The ceramic bezel tops off a consummate modern chronograph, with just a hint back to its vintage provenance.

Like a lot of people I was impressed by the Tudor Black Bay Bronze when it was premiered at Baselworld this year and it has been interesting to see the posts, pictures and sales of those who have bought since. The problem for me (and apologies to Tudor owners) is that I personally could not live with the snow flake hour hand - it's not for me.

Later in 2016 Steinhart released a range of bronze watches, which are not really a homage to any particular watch, if you like it is a real Heinz 57 watch. The one that took my fancy was the one with the green insert and distressed canvass strap. This week one appeared on SC, so I jumped in and it arrived this morning.

It is probably a Marmite watch and I know that a lot of people on here don't like Steinhart full stop. That is fine with me, we are all different etc.

First impressions, the strap is a nice thick quality leather strap, with a distressed canvass covering, which makes it look old and tatty, but it totally suits the bronze case. The bezel insert is a nod to the early Kermit with the flat 4 in the 40. The dial is a nod to the Explorer with the simple 3,6,9 no date configuration and you get the milsub gladiator hands - hence my comment about this being a bit of Heinz 57.

The watch weighs in at approx 106 grams so is not as heavy as Steinharts with SS bracelets.

I really like it, it is very comfortable, extremely clear and as usual on Steinharts the lume is superb. At nearly a tenth of the price of the Tudor you can have a bronze in the collection without spending a Small fortune. I also think that you are highly unlikely to bump into anyone else wearing one.
