    New arrival

Ikepod is the watch brand behind industrial designer genius Marc Newson (from Australia). Ikepod watches each have a monocoque cases which means that the entire movement and dial are inside one unified piece of metal (for the most part). The look is a hip looking bulbous orb that looks like a “time” capsule on the wrist. While by no means inexpensive, you get a true “designer” look with Ikepod watches, which stress form and function.

A few years ago when Ford re-released the Thunderbird, they commissioned Ikepod to create a limited edition series of watches for the release. Apparently Ford realized that the target audience for the attractive to look at, not so fun to drive coupe would be aging Americans who perhaps had fond memories of the originals. Likewise, this demographic might be into fine watches, so the connection seemed logical. Whatever Ford was thinking, the Ikepod Thunderbird watches do the T-Bird’s heritage justice. Very clean lines, inherently legible, with flamboyant colors that appear appropriate. You get lovely touches such as a nicely engraved “Thunderbird” logo across the top of the bezel, along with aquamarine cabochons in the pushers and crown that match the chronograph seconds hand. Of course, the iconic Thunderbird logo itself is proudly displayed on the face of the watch instead of the Ikepod logo for this special edition.

    Two new arrivals:

    1. AVI-8 Spitfire Smith (Reading model)

I am quite surprised by how much character this watch has in the flesh! I really quite like it.

    2. Spinnaker Dumas Bordeaux

This is an absolutely cracking watch.

Full reviews tomorrow when there is better light!

This watch has very little to do with time telling at a glance :)

Couple of incomings from me, two brands I haven’t owned but two watches I had been pondering over for a while…also didn’t have a titanium watch, now have two!

    Breguet Type XXI Flyback Chronograph

I’ve had an eye on a Type XXI for a while and this model was a limited edition of 250 for each of the colours, lime and orange dials - a bit of a modern take on a classic.

    Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Titanium Blue

Then my first Blancpain, bought from Tim on SC, got it a few weeks back but needed to go to the AD as I needed a half link added and that bracelet wasn’t getting touched by my chunky hands with a screwdriver. For such a big watch, unbelievably light and the dial, wow, I love a blue dial and that up there with the best.

I wondered how you were getting on with the build. We spoke about it last year when you bought the Bund. I hadn't seen any pictures and I forgot.
I had a speedy but let it go, that may well be a new contender.

Superb Martyn. Consuming some cheap wine will offset the cost! 😂

Sadly, not cheap at the 5* hotel where the boutique shop was in, 10€ for a small glass each - but the view was lovely around from the swimming pool.

The Breguet is absolutely stunning - if tasteful-steampunk wasn't an oxymoron it would probably quality. Split seconds I'd guess?

    So. Much. WANT.

Arrived yesterday, thought one of the recently purchased webbing straps would suit...........

Watched a good YouTube video on how to trim the strap.

That will be a central minute counter, not a ratrappante.

    Finally popped my GS cherry.

I’ve got to say I’m blown away by the hands, dial and case finishing.

The thickness on paper is very misleading, wears really well.

Now I need to go and order some straps.

They were fine with me dropping in with my BP bracelet to adjust 18 months or so ago, no cost and they put the spare links in a nice box! Mind you I did have to go back as they fitted one of the half links the wrong way around…

The Incoming / New Arrival Thread

It’s the maxi Marine diver model # 263-90. Titanium case and clasp, ceramic strap inserts and rubberised bezel inserts.

Since UN was sold by the Kerring group they are apparently recalling stock to relaunch in the UK. This meant the dealer was willing to knock a lot off the price as they won’t be stocking them in a month or two. Worked out at nearly 40% off rrp albeit most of that was already applied.

My feeling is that UN while they can be challenging design wise have some stunning watches in their line up and are at the forefront of technology.

Edited to add: my other UN has increased in value by about 60% in my 2 years of ownership so I’m pretty happy about that although again I got it at a superb price.
