I'd often hankered after a Seiko Alpinist over the years but was suddenly struck by an extremely competitively-priced limited edition piece on SC the other day. It was so cheap for the model that I wasn't surprised to have been beaten to it by another member. Therefore, the next day was spent scouring for the most reasonably priced SPB199J1 I could find on the market and eventually found one at over 60 per cent more on ebay that looked to be genuine and a full set. It arrived this morning having only spent time on the supplied canvas strap but I have quickly swapped it on to the other supplied leather strap. I think it's a beautiful thing although noticeably smaller than I usually wear. Forgive the hairy ape wrist - I'd never make a watch model.

    On the canvas strap

    On the leather

Absolutely. Speak to the dealer regularly, reassure them you're not a flipper/chancer and there's always a decent chance!

I love your new Zenith. I haven't seen the blue dial before. I remember these were great value given the outstanding movements. Congratulations. Another one for the list. lol.

    Finally...

After much deliberation I've finally pulled the trigger on this

I've been very brave and purchased from Swiss Watch Trader - I understand he isn't overly welcome on here? That said I'm happy with what I've paid.

That is not a blue dial - it is the AR coating!

I have the same Zenith HW on bracelet & it does look a bluey colour sometimes, but is definitely a black dial.

Wow, happy birthday indeed. The Christmas stock must have landed. Your wife must have been thrilled, no one can compete with getting a white Daytona from the AD!

This arrived from Aliexpress on Friday. For about £80 it's a lovely piece, doesn't feel cheap at all. Seems to be running at about +4 per day.

Null points for originality of course and the fern leaf design is exactly the same as the Rolex models with a similar dial. But I can live with that.

The only negative is that the dial is quite reflective - it really looks special when it catches the light - but the shiny hands are nicely camouflaged against it. I sometimes have to tilt my wrist to read the time.

Received this yesterday from my parents for my 40th which was earlier this year.... Late gift as it's been off having alsorts done to bring it back to life.

Was owned by my dad's brother before he passed away very young and has sat in a box unworn for the best part of forty years.

    Absolutely love it.
