I was in Goldsmiths looking at the pre-owned stuff. Got talking to one of the sales team I know and moaned to her that a few weeks ago I had noticed a black dial 36mm Datejust on display and that even though I registered interest in one about 18 months ago I had been refused a look at it without an appointment even though the shop was empty! The sales lady disappeared and then reappeared with a blue dial Datejust from the safe and said it was available to buy. She then disappeared again and reappeared with the black dial and said I could have it and they would put the blue dial on display.

Happy days. In the right place at the right time.

The "cutting back on the collection" isn't going well. Added this one today.

Went into the shop with the intention of trying a Hamilton Khaki Field mechanical, they didn't have one but it would have been rude to leave empty handed.

Very cool. There's a ton of fun to be had with vintage (especially 60s) Japanese watches. I try to limit myself to Seiko, but my eye has been wandering to Citizen (a Chrono Master perhaps) and Orient (a Grand Prix model with the ridiculous 100 jewels).

As for the crystal: I've assumed that the model number of your watch is F51407051 and threw it into Yahoo Japan. Came up with two hits for a crystal though it doesn't seem to mention the specific part number:

Well I think my search for the perfect day to day watch and one I can wear for work is finally here.

I do love a black watch when I’m at work and I’ve tried so many but today I think I’ve finally found the perfect daily/work watch.

Christopher Ward C60 Abyss GMT watch.
Perfect dimensions and have to say the whole package is well made and packaged.

Saw this on display and tried it and looks a lot better on the wrist than in pictures! Shame they don’t do a 41mm version

It’s a 47. I’ve had 45 rads before and wears similar, on my wrist same as a 44 luminor.

Thank you, as you say, there is a lot of fun to be had researching and finding vintage Japanese watches. Some important pieces can be found relatively cheaply. For example the DeLuxe Parawater was the first waterproof Japanese watch.

I too have initially stuck with Seiko but have nearly all the vintage Seiko I have been looking for so am branching out. Citizen Parawater may be the next target. Although I have recently started looking at Ricoh. That 100j Orient sounds nuts.

Thank you for the advice. You were close with the model number, it is an F1407051. I have been following one of the crystals you suggested but haven't been confident enough to buy it.

However, thanks to you unintentionally pointing me to From Japan (I've been using Buyee where the same search brings up different results), I had an insomnia fuelled searching session and dug out what I think is the correct part number and ordered one. Fingers crossed.

That's good to hear. Looking forward to seeing some shots when it's all cleaned up and the new crystal fitted. And feel free to post some more photos of your collection :-)

Explorer II. Perfect balance between case and bracelet, but lets see about the 32xx movement issue…

AD kept it on a winder for a week assuring me it runs within specs. It has been at 0 the last couple of days. Hope it doesn’t start slowing down as all the other ones I’ve had.

I will do that (assuming the crystal is correct). I have been thinking about an SOTC but I am finding it difficult to think how best to do it without boring the readers (there are somewhere in the region of fifty in my collection which would be far too many to do in one thread). A challenge for the first part of the year perhaps.

I do like the update on the black dial with the hands.

The ghost hands were never for me and this is much more legible.

Yeah, black dial is better on those. Proper maxi hands too. 22mm slimmer lugs are the highlight though.

Well after owning the Speedmaster for a few days and realising it wasn't for me (fantastic watch, but just lacked something). I finally picked up the watch I should've got before. Couldn't get the crazy great offer as before, but that's life. It's a marmite watch for sure, but it brings me smiles!

    It’s a brick, accept it

I’m kicking myself; before our customs Union ended they were £3300 from Chronext and Montredo. It wasn’t that long ago

    I’m a little bit jealous

Yep was watching those prices for a while.

Ernst Jones had 25% off in January but I opted for 15% off on a Speedy instead (before it’s price rise).

15% still available at one retailer I know for the Monaco if you want a pm.

The Incoming / New Arrival Thread

The Hanhart 417 ES Reverse Panda Flyback is here, happened to call Stewarts who seem to be the only dealer in the UK for them and they had just taken in this watch so was less than RRP and the condition is perfect. Arrived today and really love the flyback feature along with the overal look of the watch.

Seems very nicely made along with the strap's leather very nice indeed with a slight brushed back to it, the lume is pretty cool too.

Actually wearing this the first time today as I needed to get a new [shorter] OEM strap for it from the AD. Love the simplicity of the 38mm original Chronomaster, the red star chrono hand, and the simpler face without the additional 36,000 script.

Have ordered a grey alcantara strap for it which I think may suit it better than the oem alligator, albeit nice as it is.

Just took delivery of the new Synchron Poseidon. Didn’t think I would be too keen on the ice grey Isofrane strap but actually works really well.

Do miss a cushion diver when one is not in the rotation…….
