Woo Hoo!
Looks marvellous, congrats.
Any pics of it poking out of a shirt cuff at all?
..and it's lovely :). I have a 7.75" wrist and it certainly doesn't wear too small.

Very nice, I can not believe how different this is compared to the original visuals.
A few more pics showing some of the nice details - the signed buckle and strap are a cool touch.
Apologies for the backgrounds in the pics - the furniture isn't mine...the errant wrist hair however is.
The crown is perfectly sized and unfashionably modest. Love it. The watch itself is just so very wearable.
Very happy with it :)
Looks cool, are the hands blued steel?
What a cracking watch Eddie, they just get better and better!
Great cuff shot.
It looks superb!
Would be interested to see it on a 6.5" / 6.75" wrist
I really like the vintage Smiths logo, script and Sheffield nestling in between.
Well done Eddie and thank you.
What a fantastic little piece!
It wears nicely on a smaller wrist, very pleased with mine.
Looking good, thanks for the pics.
I wouldn't normally give this style of watch a second glance but this looks really really nice.
The dial in the first picture really "pops".
I would love to see Rocco do a starburst lapping job on just the top surface of the case. Does that make me a degenerate pervert?
Johnny.
Thought I'd pop it on a different strap to see how it looks... This vintage brown makes it look a bit trench-watch-y... Not sure but the experiments continue :). This pic shows off the lovely texture on the dial:
..and one of it's rather spiffing behind:
What a credit to the Smiths name . love the dial in particular - is it a silver linen dial ?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
This watch is simply stunning and is the first watch in a good while to pique my interest. Well done to the posters for such good initial pics. I'm a sucker for sub seconds and whilst I really liked the look of the PRS9 I was worried it would be too large for my spindly wrists but this looks an ideal size. Just a question of raising the cash now....
I may have missed it somewhere but did Eddie say what movement would go into these after the Peseux movements ran out?
A few superficial observations after a days ownership:
Context: I've been after a modern dress watch for a while. I previously owned a Stowa Antea, but never quite got on with its austere dial and it went for other reasons a couple of years ago. I have a Seiko SARB045, but I've wanted something date-less and with a lighter dial colour to complement it. Vintage Seiko 66 nearly hit the spot but are undersized by modern standards. I've been rooting around Longines and Oris offerings for a while but then the PRS-36 project came up.
Don’t like: I tend to look for flaws straight away and I found....not much :-) Being fussy, I would prefer the elegant Smiths Sheffield badge to be about 1mm lower and the subdial tracks about 0.5mm thinner. No OCD alarms ringing, though. I would also prefer the crown to be about 1.5mm wider but, as noted earlier, that is a modern affectation.
Size: on my 6.5” wrist the watch proportions are just right- the cushion case and light coloured dial means it “wears large” but there’s no lug overhang at all. The supplied Smiths strap is beautiful and comfortable but too bulky for me so I’ll probably try sourcing something with a matte croc-grain.
Movement etc: handwind is sweet and sturdy, and timekeeping seems fine. TBH I don’t care that much about the engine because….
Style: Without any need for sports/mil spec, this is all about the visuals for me. I was a little concerned about the polished case, but it works with the linen/brushed face very well. The textured subdial gives what would otherwise be a large plain dial a visual focus which zings. This is almost the only watch I have with numerals but, depending on the light, they sometimes disappear into the face. It’s this interplay- numerals, dials, polishing, brushing, which give the dial a sense of life which I like, but without being overly shouty. Very... proper.
Whats hard to see from the photos is the tones in the strap - mines just arrived and in the garden light its quite lovely.
To add to the excellent thoughts from gentlemenpreferhats, some of my observations:
- Timekeeping: Excellent in my example. -1s/24hrs so far against my atomic G. I'm sure that's just luck but obviously I'm more than happy with that.
- Winding: Very nice. Feels quality - you can feel the clicks of the click spring but no grating/grinding/undue effort as in some hand wound watches.
- Logo - blooming brilliant in my opinion. Really sets it apart and is perfectly executed.
- Dial - as mentioned previously and by gentlemenpreferhats, really well done. The mixture of the linen finish, textured subdial, outlined numerals and surprisingly effective lume come together really well. Really really well :)
- Case - the overriding feeling is one of extreme wearability. It feels just right - not too proud, not too weighty, just....right. And I've got a burly 100Kg frame to wear it on and it doesn't look lost at all.
- Crystal - there's a gentle dome to the sapphire that adds a little...life? to the watch. Life is daft, I don't really know what I'm aiming for there....it adds character for sure. The way it's flush to the case is nice too.
The overall impression is excellent. I mean no disrespect to Eddie's other watches (as I have a number myself) but it feels to me like this is the start of another line or sub brand. The watch is really very good indeed. You may have picked up that I like it :)
Some quick observations from me too.
It's a great size. I'm not blessed with big wrists and it fits nicely. Echoing the thoughts above, the shape and light face makes the watch wear slightly bigger than I expected but the lug to lug is still relatively small so it sits just right.
I really like the small seconds and the contrast it brings to the face whilst also balancing the logo (which I'm really trying to see as a crown).
The strap whilst very nice doesn't quite sit right on my wrist yet so I've swapped it out for a grey suede style one which looks great.
It sounds daft, but I find it more relaxing to wear than some watches. I can be a bit ocd with getting the minutes to line up with when the second hand crosses the 60 but this wears a little more like a two-hander where it's not a worry.
All in all, I'm very pleased.
Brilliant! That is properly classy. Easily the best-looking Smiths in the lineup IMO.
I knew I'd forget some things:
- The tick - quiet, which pleases my wife as she hates my noisier watches...as it's a lower beat rate at 21600 it's a little more relaxed too.
- Hacking - although it's a non-hacking movement, the trick of using gentle backward pressure to stop the seconds works perfectly.
That is a real classy watch
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
