Question Who could professionally refinish titanium?

Where might I get a titanium watch and bracelet professionally refinished? Could anyone advise or recommend somewhere in the UK?

Presumably the same as titanium is always finished.

That's plating and coating. Not finishing.

    Quite - I didn't realise I'd need to be more specific ;-)

I'd be interested in a good recommendation too. I'd like my brushed titanium bracelet freshened-up.

I`ve refinished a couple of titanium Seamaster Pros.

The odd thing about these was the coarseness of the grained/brushed finish compared to the steel models. There was a lot of scuffing and damage when I looked closely; in each case the only way to get the watch and bracelet looking right was to remove all traces of the original finish (and remove all damage) then reapply a heavy brushed finish to get close to the original. The end result looked excellent, but it took a lot of time and for that reason I wouldn`t be in a rush to do another.........and certainly not at the prices I quoted in the past.

Titanium's softer than steel so it's easier to work in some respects. However, getting the polished parts to shine seemed more difficult.

The problem with any refinishing work is the time required to get a really top-quality job.

Would also depend on the Grade of Titanium used.

Pure Titanium (Grade 2) is indeed softer that Stainless Steel, whereas Grade 5 Titanium (90% Titanium, 6% Aluminium, 4% Vanadium - Ti 6Al 4V) is quite a lot harder than Stainless Steel (340 on vickers compared to 220 for SS).

Oris, Panerai and Breitling are known to use Grade 2, whereas Omega are known to use Grade 5 whilst Tudor also used Grade 5 on the Pelagos.

    Question

    Hi Paul,

Roughly how much would you quote to refinish a brushed titanium watch and bracelet (pure titanium, all brushed)? I'm curious what a ballpark figure might be.

I know this is a stock answer to half the questions on here, but is this a job for Rocco at Watchworks here in Bristol?

    Depends on the watch!

Thanks Paul. It was only a hypothetical question for now, prompted by looking at some rather scratched Ti Seikos.

Sorry gents, its gone away for a little spa treatment with Gingerboy. In all fairness, the marks are all superficial and the watch has been a daily wearer for 6 months.
