Your not the only one keeping your eye out. Not a smart watch fan, or a fan of wearable tech but still intrigued to see it!:) any guesses on what it's going to be like? Round? Square?
Edited the thread title to make more sense... it's been an interesting read so far, thanks
Magsafe charging...
Easy-change straps...
There's two with three editions...
"Three editions: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport (that adds a 60 percent stronger alloy case that's still light and durable), and Apple Watch Edition (which is made from 18k gold)."
Details...
"What we didn't do was take the iPhone and shrink the user interface" because that would be awful and no one is trying to do that?
Instead, there's a dial on the side of the watch (a "digital crown") that includes infrared LEDs and photodiodes that translate rotary movement into digital data.
Which means you use it to navigate the device; zoom on a map, scroll through a list.
I know we all know this, however Hodinkee just tweeted a photo of a guest pass to the event. Can only mean one thing right?
I'm interested to see it :-)
EDIT: All kicks off at 6PM, so around 20mins of news on how Apple took over the universe, followed by the product releases.

Whatever shape it is, Apple will sue other companies to prevent them using the same shape.
Apple patents the round watch... ;-)
Apple won't make a round wrist wearable. They kicked skeumorphism to the kerb with iOS7.
Could do wonders for the watch world, once people get fixated by having a bit of wrist furniture and then get bored of seeing everyone wearing the same they mat well seek a quality timepiece that they know everyone will instantly cast an eye to.
Needless to say itll be great and shite all in one go
RIAC
Most youngsters seem to have abandoned Apple in favour of Android, and don't wear a watch anyway - I'm not sure the 'need' is there either - like the wrist tv I dreamt of as a kid in the 70's, a nice idea but ultimately not really useable. I'd be very surprised if it's bit a naff gimmick, but if live to be proved wrong!
Siri doesn't understand me lol
I'd be interested to see what the iWatch looks like and can do.
But I'm not (yet...) convinced I want to own/use a phone and a watch...but hopefully the iWatch will be more sophisticated than flashing up a message when I've got a new sms/email etc....
Here it is!

And no, I am NOT going to buy one.
Apple Watch (not iWatch).

Lots of strap options, including leather, bracelets and mesh.
Lots of functionality via the 'digital crown'. Works seamlessly with iPhone (funnily enough!)
Two sizes, with different sized straps.
'Force feedback' module in the back of the watch - taptic.

It looks good, if that sort of tech floats your boat. Might get more youngsters into wearing a time device on their wrist which with time might translate into a new generation appreciating traditional/analogue watches. Suspect it will appeal primarily to the sort of folk who don't frequent these parts.
yes please,
^^^ that does look quite retro and nice on those straps
Kevin
theyve released one in 18kt gold?! youve got to be kidding....
Yes yes yes, but does it go on a NATO?
Fair play to apple thou looks 1000% better than any current smart watch
They've certainly tried very hard with this - providing a wide range of styles and two sizes at launch (even some kind of hardened solid gold for luxury lovers!) and various straps / bracelets is a good attempt to address the problem of the potential lack of individuality and personal expression when compared to traditional watches. Though it still looks... like a smart watch at the end of the day. Quite likely the best one out there by a very comfortable distance, but I'm still no more likely to wear a smart watch than I was yesterday. Looking forward to seeing proper videos and pictures though and getting a better idea of what it can really do. You can see where this is going, in the very near future it will completely replace your phone, answer any question, give you directions, and replace your credit cards too - something they've just announced for the iPhone. Resistance is futile?
any price speculation at this point?
It seems to work as a satnav, display your photos, show messages, your heart rate, weather and stocks info, Siri is on it etc
Won't work by itself as you need an iPhone.
Hmm some of the combos look good, some a bit naff.
18ct Gold? Doubt it would be sensible to pay too much for these since people will be flipping each year for the upgrade model
Brilliant...
Meh...
Thats where I feel its a weak device, would rather whip my phone out with my DSSD on my wrist rather be lazy, I mean you still need to go out and about with your iPhone in your pocket regardless If I got one it would be for the fitness kind of thing but then is it worth it for just that - prob not
This is going to sell by the bucketload though and they have shown Samsung up with their version. maybe they should have waited!

I'd be interested up to the £149 price point
EDIT $349 - not interested.

Isn't that the worst thread ever?
It can be an amazing tool, but I'm sorry, that's not a watch. Is it?
Duplicated a post above. Looks like it needs charging every night.
Doesn't look any better than other smartwatches and I still don't see the point.
Until I can talk to my car with one, not for me.
Really curious about the reasoning behind the 18k versions... pricing, residual values, etc... perhaps they will only make a few at a silly price for those who can afford to just toss it into the back of a drawer in a year or two when the next version is out...
Nope not for Me that is nothing special its for the,"Look at Me I've got an IPhone,an ipad,a MacBook,an iWatch,I have no life",crowd who live their lives but whatever the Cupertino mob release onto the sad sods.I must say though the Motorola Smartwatch looks really good had a brief play with one at a special gathering.
No? Yeah, you're right, the Explorer II GMT hand really spoils a watch...

Cool device but nothing groundbreaking like the iPad / iPhone launch - I think Apple trying too hard here in a gadget that the tech is not available for (yet)
It does everything we expected it to do really, no mouth dropping moments
