    Mornington Crescent

    I know.

Another non-watch thread. What can I say? I don't feel the need to flip just now.

At least you can be glad I don't a) sell my old clothing on SC b) want to talk about MX5s or c) have a dual forum ID.

Anyway, I'm sure you've seen this type of thread on another forum. And the odd panel show.

    It's a simple game.

We navigate our way around London's landmarks, streets and more commonly, its Underground system.

First to Mornington Crescent is the winner.

The winner starts the next game.

I'm open to ideas but I suggest we use the Cornish Rules and see how we go.

That means doubling-back is possible on Tuesdays provided it's a non-regulating line.

No Reverse Dutch Steamboats unless you have your wife's permission.

    Right then.

    Let's start from Paddington.

    Your go.

Mornington Cres.... Oh wait. Are we playing Hampshire variations?

I bet not. In that case, Piccadilly Circus.

I'll have to ask Eddie's permission - I don't want this to descend into farce so early.

Play it blind for now chaps.

Sorry, do carry on. I believe we're at Piccadilly Circus.

For newbies, this means you have to send sean a BT for £5 if you want to use the stairs at the next platform.

I'm a bit of a novice I'm afraid. I do know this may make it easy for the next participant to play a Hammersmith Gambit, but I'll go with Tottenham Court Road.

  5. #5
The Chackrington Opening suggests correct would be Gloucester Road, but I may, requesting the participants' indulgence, shuttle forth to Lambeth North

It's been a while, but having favoured an altruistic approach over the years and to avoid any early clampdown on unfriendly play, also to encourage any n00bs who are contemplating dipping in a toe, I'll open a door here: Elephant & Castle

Before rush hour? Have you never encountered the Burlington amendment?

You sir, are a cad. I therefore call your gambit forfeit and move the game to...

    Vauxhall.

Vauxhall? I think, old boy, you may well have placed yourself 'in spoon'.

I will sneak in to take advantage of your misfortune, and call Quex Road.

Is this a bit like Number wang where you shout out arbitrary stations until someone says Mornington Crescent?

I think it's a very polite gathering of a specific London landmark based tourettes sufferers group, if it's not, I have no clue what's going on....

Fixed that for you, Jason. As for you, Mr Four Fingers... Shame on you.

I feel compelled to turn the entire game on its head and, as I'm now comprehensively spooned and therefore immune from reversal. Kilburn.

Bold yet unquestionably acceptable. I may be telegraphing the end-game but the opportunity to jilly-fruit can not be resisted. You'll understand I must play Lancaster Gate.

It depends whether you're playing the Burlington or the Bullingdon rules - for me there's only one option.

  19. #19
Ahhh, now I'm beginning to understand the rules.

Royal Oak you say, as a noob I know I well might be making a huge mistake here but I fancy Pimlico.

I'm hoping that all you seasoned players out there will appreciate the subtlety of that move?

Hardly a noob move here - I smell a ringer or an inordinate amount of beginners luck. If FFF has intuitively made the transition to Pimilco without extensive prior game-play we may have a savant in our midst.
I'll invoke the Gibraltar Gambit with a Geomagnetic Reversal Twist, first seen in the Marakesh regionals of 2007 and counter with: Dalston Kingsland

Damn and twice damn you sir, for you have seen through my initial ruse. You are correct, I have trained extensively with the Comton Chapter for many years.

Dalton Kingsland was where I was hoping you would go as I feel now it is time to play Fairlop.....ah!!

    Fairlop?

    Never been here before.

    **looks about**

And not likely to again. Do you mind if we tiptoe away from these Zone 4 backwaters?

I was hoping we could stop off at The Royal Exchange for a swift half.

    Bank it is.

I'm declaring a Tucker Underpass, and making my move to Gants Hill.

You will note from the opening post that we are indeed using Cornish ruling, which, unfortunately renders Tooting Bec erroneous. Quite rightly Sean has opted for Gants Hill mainly thanks to his wife who has allowed the reverse Dutch steamboat.

With this in mind and with the added Tucker underpass my only move would be to adopt another reverse Dutch steamboat....Mansion House.

Fear not, I think what with the excitement of the game the rules sometimes get forgotten.....with Queens Park you would be welcome in the Compton Chapter anytime.

    well done, jchlu!

According to the 18:21 ruling of Sir Harry of Bunksville, this means that I get to start the next round and I say, with my head held high and my whiskers blowing pointedly in the Thames breeze; Seven Sisters.

Unfortunately I must revert us several moves. The reverse Dutch steamboat was disallowed under the second amendment to the 1992 rules, as was the Belgian Biscuit. I therefore call Lincoln's Inn

Many thanks for you gracious words and congratulations on a fine opening move - a picture painted with words Sir Harry would have been proud of.
As we're all now in the swing I'll invoke the Sheriff of Dorsetshire variation early in the piece and head for Harringay Green Lanes

I think I can move to Slattery Lane. An uncommon tactic, but it'll confuse the rookies.

It is, of course, entirely real.

Rayner's Lane. Totally permissible due to the proximity to Rawlinson End, and other Featherstonehaughs.

Surely Slattery lane at this point should be seen as an act of aggression, as we are under Cornish rule I assume we will counter this act of aggression with an act of complete stupidity (see Lord Bottomtooth the 3rds deceleration appendix 7, page 12, section 7:1) with this in mind I feel a move to Cock Fosters should be effective for no other reason other than it sounds a bit funny.

Rayners lane would have of course been permissible (due to the proximity to Rawlinson End) assuming you'd invoked the Pendergast 1702 amendment... I assume it was simply a momentary lapse in concentration that led you miss switching onto Eastcote? (never mind!!!)

That allows me to go direct Picadilly... Get in!!!!!

Edit: via cockfosters naturally which I simply new someone was going to suggest before posting my move... Uncanny...

To give those just learning the rules a chance I'm playing Bank.

Honestly, the options for the next player are limitless!

Edit: Apart from picking anything on the Jubilee line, obviously.

Having now analysed the game in play I think its time to enter proceedings with the 1948 Jon Pertwee polarity gambit (unmodified) and call for a move to Loughton

Before anyone calls shenanigans please remember that no one has declared a Black Abbot as yet

    Now we are getting serious

A declared black Abbot or Blabbot as it is known is pointless as we are stiill waiting for the results from the breath holding, in the meantime may I suggest that a Barnfathers Titan is declared if any such shenanigans is being considered being called.

I'd like us to take a step back and play the next turn using the 1978 'original variation' rules.

It's just for one turn so no-one should get hurt.
