    TZ-UK Uniform

I hesitated a long time on whether to post this here or go straight to the Bear Pit, where it is likely to end but decided to give it a chance to start with

It is obvious that underneath our many differences we share a few common traits, that go beyond our interests in horological matters.

So much so that I am sure that quite a few would possibly admit possessing more than one item on this list:

    - A middle end watch, Rolex or Omega
    - A German motor
    - A Barbour Commander, or at least another Barbour or Belstaff
    - A fountain pen or at least a high end biro

Anyone care to add to the list (second hand flip flops and underwear excepted )?

    Longines biro

Keep your German cars, I have friends on Guernsey. I'll stick with the Riley thanks.

You own something quite commonplace, or mundane... But have the rare & hence seldom seen, tactical version (# also includes anything that's described as "fashioned" in titanium, PVD coated, stealth &/or DPM)

seeing as i already have to wear a uniform i was hoping this thread would not bear fruit in my case, however:

1- rolex and 2 omegas (amongst others)

    2- bmw 8 series

    3- Antique beigue roadmaster

4- fountain pens: Montblanc 146, GvFC Guilloche and GvFC Intuition
Expensive biros: GVFC Pocket Pen, Montblanc 144 rollerball.

guilty as charged it appears. mind you, i dont wear second hand footwear or hippy jeans or sell my keepers or reduce my collection or have a fantastic relationship with "MY" AD etc etc.

Only the Belstaffs for me although planning on a Cayman next up and sooner or later Rolex will hit my wrist. Now why hasn't my local Rolex AD got the new blue Milgauss in stock yet?

Well, I like it here because of the diverse spectrum of people with a specific common interest. But I expect there will be other frequently occurring parallels such as a liking of fine engineering, appreciation of good quality workmanship and a reasonable disposable income.

    So:

    1. Speedy Pro and SMPc.
    2. Merc E350
    3. No, but close; Drizabone for me.
    4. Sadly too risky; my pens seem to disappear into the ether, maybe to the planet inhabited by biroid life-forms mentioned in The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

    Are we all this predictable?

    Rolex - tick

    Loakes and Sweeneys - ticks

Saved by the German car. I drive a Volvo.

    Speedmaster by Omega... tick.

German car... nope. I do appreciate Mercedes, though working out on the road full time makes me appreciate that a high proportion of people who drive BMW's and Audi's are some of the most selfish people ever to breathe in oxygen. So I am not fussed with the German car thing. Though I'd have an original Beetle or a Camper by VW at the drop of a hat.. so I would get in by proxy on that one! I have simply seen enough German car drivers out there driving without so much as a thought for other road users.

Barbour / Belstaff / any of that line. Nope. I see chavs wearing some of it locally. That'll do for me.

Fountain pen? Nope. Even though I have a love of ink and pens, never really bought into fountain pens. Though I do think that they write nicely with nice handwriting... and to be honest, my writing is quite calligraphic, so I would actually like the idea of owning one.

1/4. German car? Not yet in 30 years of driving and from my experience as a passenger I'd say they were over-rated.

    Honda Accord
    - A Barbour Commander, or at least another Barbour or Belstaff
    Berghaus & Salomon Goretex's
    - A fountain pen or at least a high end biro
    Pilot V5 Hi-Tec 0.5mm, available from Tesco's in packs of 3.

    I'n very nearly there

    - 2 Rolex and previous an Omega
    - Currently contemplating a BMW purchase but own a Toyota
    - Do own a Barbour and have been very close to buying the Commander following recent discounts
    - Not a fountain pen but do have a nice Mont Blanc biro for signing stuff at work.

But.........could be heading away from the standard WIS Uniform

    - Thinking of chopping in two mid range watches for one higher end e.g Blancpain or AP
    - Probably will end up with either Honda or Skoda when new car arrives
    - The Barbour is very old and rarely worn and drawn to new Hugo Boss field coat
    - Never use the pen as current role very rarely requires any signing

How can you have a middle end? The middle's the bit between 2 ends.

2/4 for me. Various Omegas and a BMW 540 Touring.

  36. #36
I'd say thankfully I'm atypical of the photo-fit TZ profile.
My clothes are all American and generally vintage.
I have a nominal interest in watches these days, and the two I have are both American.
I no longer own a car, but if I did it would be a Muscle car and not German.
I do own several fountain pens both Japanese and German, but not the typical brands.

For the true TZ-UK member, this forum uniform would boldly state your impeccable taste. Just add an embroidered TZ-UK logo and you are ready to enjoy the finer things.

O/4, own a Jap 2 seater but not a Mazda, only allowed crayon to write with, no inclination to own a Rolex and still got my old lime green waterproof work jackets for when it’s wet and windy out, Scottish summers!

    - 1.5 Omegas, no Rolex as they don’t do it for me
    - elderly disintegrating Mercedes
    - do have a Barbour but my favourite jacket is a Swazi Windriver that I’ve had for 22 years
    - Pelikan fountain pens, numerous
    - several daft torches

But really this only scrapes the surface of my knobendry. Let’s add:

    - about 50 Swiss Army knives. I collect them and am also never without at least one on my person except when naked or on an aeroplane.
    - utterly pointless number of screwdrivers
    - backpacks, satchels, sling bags, pouches, smaller pouches inside those pouches
    - twatty hi-fi system and about 3,000 CDs
    - if it can be made out of titanium I own one made out of titanium (except watches, oddly)

It’s amazing I’m not more divorced than I am, really.

The only thing on the list is the car but that’s only because I wanted a vaguely practical convertible and I can’t afford an LC500.

I dislike both Rolex and omega, Barbour don’t make coats ample enough for my manly girth and I use an iPad and pencil for note taking. I’ve not had to sign my name in years unless I’m in the USA and then I use whatever the car rental place or hotel have to hand.

Edited to add. I also have a twatty hi-fi, less twatty than a few years back but massively twattier than a Sonos or the like.
