Sporting a newish (3 months) goatee. What does beard oil actually do and is it worth it?
As I grow older, which seems to be happening more rapidly lately, my beard appears to be made up more and more of those thin white plastic things that keep the tags on new clothes and no oil or wax in the world can tame them!

Began my beard about 2008 and it was a glossy black/brown. Now it's white, brown and strangely got some ginger in there.
And the hair on my head is going an invisible colour...
Speaking from my rather limited experience of never having a beard to growing an absolute monstrosity, beard oil helps moisturise, reduces itchiness, eliminates the dandruff, and helps style/ flatten the stray sticky out hairs. Smells nice too.
Cheap oils are a bit of a waste. Much better to grab a decent one if you are going to adopt the regime.
The only oil suitable for a beard is Castrol GTX or some such.
Thanks RLE, Looks like I could be persuaded to adopt this regime.
My barber just switched me onto Reuzel Foam - https://www.reuzel.co.uk/product/reuzel-beard-foam/
Best thing I've ever put into my beard
Will the real men please step forward?
'No....you there, with the oil.....stay where you are please'
I stopped shaving for a couple of weeks ago and got a surprising bushy output.
However my pretty tolerant wife said. "I hate it. It make you look about 70", and my son said "it makes you look really old" - so off it came.
No real hardship as it was starting to drive me crazy.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Beard oil - excellent for marketing people. The rest of us can manage without.
Had a beard about 2 years now
Soap and water is all one needs...
I just wish I had hair on top, the head upside down look is not a distinguished one but I like it.
I’ve grown a beard since Christmas as I couldn’t be bothered to shave, thought it would be really easy as I personally hate shaving but have found keeping a beard to be a major @@@@
Any hints and tips on general upkeep and shaping as that is what always takes me literally hours and even then I have to call it quits as I can’t quite get one side to match the other.
Had a beard for a good 12 years now and only discovered beard oil a few months back and wouldn't be without it now.
I use the Mountaineer brand... smells like Cedar, lovely stuff.
