The Northman - awful, not sure how they made it so badly. Could have been another Gladiator but nowhere near.

    The Estate

Woeful storyline with a dire script plus mediocre acting makes for something that even the streaming services gave a swerve to!

I wouldn’t say ‘rubbish’ but watched Belfast last night and considering all the buzz around it I was very disappointed. Beautifully shot/filmed with a great cast but struggled to connect with it and dare I say found it a little boring…..

I like the poster. The bloke with the guitar is enjoying himself, the bird is doing her business on the front of the car, the cowboy is vaguely interested and the bloke top right is horrified.

Not sure if its been mentioned but Synchronic should just be called chronic.

I rather enjoyed it. It felt starwarsy in a way and for me it actually had a plot. At least compared to the 80's top gun which I really despise.

    The Batman.

As a fan of the others, this just failed to grip me and my attention in any way. Was switched off within 30mins.

I stuck it out but definitely the most overrated film of the year for me.

Cons: almost no story whatsoever and no character-development worth a toss, you really need to see the 3D version to get the best from it, very long (I like that, most don't), ecological subtext isn't all that sub - more of a club (again, I'm fine with it, moany old farts less-so). Clumsily and self-consciously references an assortment of movies - never to good effect. Rated 12A - and yet 12 is about the oldest you can be to get much from this. Described - aptly - elsewhere as 'Smurfahontas'.

Pros: very, very pretty, best SFX of any movie I've yet seen, 3D works better than elsewhere too (E&OE), kids will love it, especially the swearing and gory violence - parents won't because of the swearing and gory violence and length...

tl;dr - this is - fundamentally - a kids' movie, despite being too long and violent and sweary for them...

I've been at it again - wanted something brain-off while I ate my supper - so pulled 'R.I.P.D.' off Netflix, having never heard of it...

I mean, how bad can something be that's got Ryan Reynolds, Geoff Bridges, Mary-Louise Parker and Kevin Bacon in it?

Oh, yeah, Kevin Bacon... I should have paid more attention.

I endured 1.5 hours of clunk as this attempted to pay tribute to MiB and Ghostbusters by p*ssing on their graves - 1.5 hours waiting for it to start. It just never did.

    Yeesh.

If you need to make time die, if you hate yourself and believe you were put on the Earth to suffer: watch R.I.P.D - it'll make you grateful that death exists and that there's no coming-back.

I watched a film called '(Quentin Tarantino Presents) Hell Ride' the other night.

I love B-movies, biker movies, exploitation, grindhouse etc., etc., but I hated this.

Decent cast for the genre: Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper, David Carradine & Vinnie Jones. Stars a guy called Larry Bishop (his father was Joey Bishop of Sinatra's Rat Pack, BTW).

It's got violence, nudity, bikes, drugs, but it's still garbage.

There is a redeeming feature, however. It's quite short...

Two that were inflicted on me without my consent this festering season were 'Troll' and the latest take on 'Krampus' - both can only be described with language proscribed from G&D, especially the latter - utter, UTTER faeces.

    WonderWoman 2 : 1984

This is DC at its worst.

    2.5 hours of nonsense.

The first one was mediocre, so hoped maybe this one would be better....... but WW2 is much worse.

some Seth Rogan films can be quite amusing but this missed the mark by miles

Interesting idea but just not funny at all.

Croupier - Early film (1997 i think) for Clive Owen, (i usually like his films), but Croupier was low budget, with a B movie feel, slightly unrealistic plot, and a terrible looking casino set.

The Stranger. A bunch of beards mumbling through a totally meaningless plot. I didn't know Joel Edgerton was an Aussie. He plays an American much better.
I'm sick of people going on about Everything Everywhere All At Once as though it's some intellectual rite of passage. I've had more interesting things come out of my back passage. Bloody rubbish.

good cast - Joseph Gordon Levitt - Anthony Mackie - Seth Rogan etc

This is on the good movies thread, too. The cinematography and script are great, and Barry Keoghan is absolutely brilliant. I would recommend it just for his performance.

I agree on Barry Keoghan but the rest of the film was just tiresome. Sorry not for me (still probably win Oscars though)

Fair enough, can absolutely see how this film is not for everyone.

Mosquito Squadron - apart from the actual aircraft footage, rubbish. Seems to be symptomatic of the period of film-making: over-acting done badly, with a third rate script. Shame, as I enjoyed it as a child.
