Weber BBQs - which and where to buy?

    Hello all,
Moving house soon, want a Weber. Funds are a bit tight but would rather buy one decent one that'll last.

Any opinions on the 'Jumbo Joe' or just go for an original? Will deffo get a chimney starter.

    Cheers in advance

    Hi,

I don't know anything about the Jumbo Joe, but would definitely recommend you buy from here...

    http://www.partridgeshadleigh.co.uk/...life/barbecues

I ordered from them earlier in the year, they were the cheapest I could find and the service was great. Anything that is out of stock is usually back in stock within a week or so as well.

    Cheers
    Simon

Ive been looking at BBQ's recently and the Weber one touch premium seems to be well rated.

That's the one I bought, I'm very impressed with it!

Good news all round then, Is the 'quick empty' on the premium worth the extra?

Thanks Simon for the link, very cheap there compared to elsewhere and if the service is good I'll definitely be going there :-)

Hi, it's not so much the quick empty, more the fact that, on a breezy day, the ash doesn't get blown around everywhere. On a friends "normal" one the ash collects on the metal plate during cooking, but a big gust of wind sends it everywhere!

I would also recommend Partridges of Hadleigh. My Weber One Touch Premium arrived 2 weeks ago with the chimney starter too. I went with the premium for exactly the reasons you said, ie the ash doesn't blow around like it will in the standard one.
The only disappointment is the chimney starter doesn't fit on the triangular rack beneath the BBQ for storage, which seems a bit daft, but it does fit under the lid though, so it really isn't a big problem.

Great BBQ's which will last a lifetime if looked after properly.

You may also want to check out some of the Weber online videos which teach you how to use it, as it is very much a 'lid on' technique.

First thing to decide on is size, 47 or 57 cm, I'd go with larger as in this case it's better, more room to do different types of cooking at the same time. Direct, indirect 50/50.

Then it just comes down to budget and what extras you want to pay for.

One touch is pull a lever and ash dumps out bottom

One touch premium dumps ash in bucket

Premium plus has a small table or a built in gas starter and igniter.

Once alight they all do the same thing and are built to the same standard with same guarantee.

    Places to buy.

Or Partridges as recommended above. Wow and Riverside e seem to do more package deals with starter and cover but choose a BBQ and see who offers the best deal. I've dealt with Riverside and Millrace and had good service at both. Don't forget you'll need.

    Chimney starter,
    Wood chips.
    I'd recommend a cover
And I'd recommend Weber long burn briquettes

The Gourmet grill is nice it has a pull out center of the top rack so you can add in extras, cast iron grill, wok, pizza stone so if you can get that thrown in its a bonus. Each insert is about £35.

There are more accessories available for the 57cm if you are the type who likes to 'pimp your BBQ' with special grates and the like, so just bear that in mind when selecting the size.

Also don't be sucked in too far with the whole Weber brand thing, some of their stuff is great, but others things like their burger press are WAY too expensive from Weber and there are cheaper/better alternatives available.
    Shop savvy!

That's the one I got and ended up collecting from B&Q using a gift voucher and my Mum's 10% pensioner discount to make it cheaper than buying online.

A learning curve for the lid-on technique as the temperature shot up and then cooled off significantly, seemingly from oxygen starvation which was addressed using vent in the lid and in the base. But it was my first go of a non-disposable set up ;-) and the food was cooked through and not burnt to a crisp.

I'm changing my Summit over the next few days to the summit 670 but can't choose between the e670 or s670 with its stainless steel finish.

Any advice or owners? I had an E470 in black that I liked previously

Try controlling the heat buy number of briquettes, i use 31 and on a standard day that gives me 180-200 c. Just right for beer can chicken. You get a feel for how full the starter chimney is 1/3 low 2/3 about 180 c full 250 c. If it's windy or rainy or a cold day it can make a difference. Based on weber long lasting briquettes.

We have a weber Q 3200 and are very pleased with it. I gets up to temp and easily maintains it. Another nice thing is that the grill is cast iron and retains much of the heat... better then those pesky stainless wire ones.

It was typical fry up breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage and lightly fried bread. Then grilled chicken salad for lunch.

Tonight was a couple of large rump steaks and jacket potatoes with burgers and sausage for the little one.

Tomorrow we have a couple of steaks left together with some marinated chicken pieces

I have a 57cm Weber Premium. Nice BBQ, but for me, I wouldn't bother with the chimney starter. I bought one and it doesn't get used.

To be honest though, the previous BBQ which became rickety after 12 years of use, was pretty good - and a fraction of the cost.

I'm surprised, the majority say this is pretty much an essential.

How do you prefer to light your coals then ?

A ton of petrol and a Zippo.

Kidding - simply a couple of fire lighters on the grille, and stacked charcoal works for me (spread out once burning). The chimney starter (at least when lit with old newspaper) is a bit hit and miss for me (and also when the wind blows, the ask from the paper goes everywhere).

    I mean ash...

I went to B&Q yesterday for some small bits and left with a Webber Q2000 gas BBQ.

I've been meaning to get one this summer and noticed they had all the BBQ section in clearance sale so I've saved a packet.

Looking forward to using it now. Is gas the same price everywhere or should I be going somewhere in particular?

I have a 57cm One Touch and wish I'd gone for the Premium version as cleaning it is a bit of a pain...ash goes everywhere! I also have a Smokey Joe which was bought for camping, holidays, etc and is brilliant - I tend to use quite a lot at home when cooking just for the family. Been mulling over going to the dark side and buying a gas BBQ but haven't made the leap yet!

Have had a one touch premium for about 8 years now, still going strong, fantastic. I'm a big chimney starter user as well, I find a couple of fire lighters stashed in with newspaper in bottom helps, a cooks blowtorch is also your friend for lighting

    Chaps

We bought the Weber Q2200 BBQ from Riverside who are the UKs largest Weber retailer for £249.

It really is a quality product and should last for years.

    Regards

Thought I'd rekindle this thread now that the end of season BBQ sales have started.

Just bought a Weber Master Touch with 33% off and freebees included. We've a gas cadac that we use at the caravan and occassionally at home but after visiting friends last week and them cooking on a weber one touch I've been keen to get a charcoal bbq for home. Couldn't find a bad review of the kettle weber bbq's.

Just hoping the weather improves for the weekend. I'm off to the butchers.....

    Happy to update too:

Been using the Weber Q2000 now for a month (6 times) and grilled burgers, sausages, lamb, pork, chicken and kebabs.
It's brilliant, better than I'd hoped for – being a charcoal fan.

Gas is so convenient, which means I'm able to use it on an evening after work, which I've never been arsed to do with a charcoal BBQ.

As for flavour/taste, the first couple of uses it lacked the BBQ flavour but now there's some fat/oil on the base of the BBQ it's smoking well and tasting great.

I got it from Riverside (www.riversidegardencentre.co.uk) but gardens4less, wowbbq and bbqworld (£151.19 cheapest I found for the premium one touch) all have various offers on.

Got to resurrect this one - just picked up a Q320 from gumtree for a cracking £30
    It's even got a light
Just needs a little tidy up and a clean - even came with a cover and cleaning brush
Couple bought it to the uk when they moved home from Dubai

One Touch Premium 57, the ash bucket is very much worth it, and the smaller 47 doesn't have anywhere near as good airflow. You can do real barbecue cooking (low and slow) on the 57, but it's just not practical on the smaller model.

I have a 57. It's a nice BBQ with some useful elements like the ashtray. However, I still think I cooked just as well on an open £20 jobbie the wife bought from Argos when we first got married. Rose tinted glasses? Me? Never. I'm just as handsome as I was when I got married too ;-)

Fair play, of course if you're simply grilling over direct heat it doesn't make much odds.

Once you really start to get into it, though, there's much joy to be had from two-zone setups, indirect cooking, smoking, rubs, the snake method, and many other bizarre and borderline pornographic-sounding arcana. And for all that the 57 is the gateway to paradise.
