    Best polo shirts...

    ...that actually fit?

I wear traditional rather than slim fit shirts so it needs to be not too tailored but neither do I want it to have the 'fits where it touches' look of exhibition freebies / staff uniform polos.

    Thanks

Depends on your size - I wear small / medium (unlike the typical tubby TZUKer), and I find at this size, it's very unusual for a polo not to fit - even primark ones which I buy for cheap & chearful holiday wear.

Having said that, I really like Luke polos, and also Penguin (their Heritage slim fit are lovely, though you mention you prefer not to wear slim fits).

I find that the only difference in branded polos are the embellishments, colours and logos - in small / medium they pretty much all fit just the same.

EDIT - I hate the Ralph Lauren cut due to the really long tail at the back. I prefer them to be the same length all the way around.

I would agree Penguin fit really well and some Ralph laurens are long at the back. Lacoste is a good choice. Cheaper brand helly Hanson i find they fit really well

    Uniqlo.

Agree with Uniqlo. Good quality and no tacky animal logos.

Definitely. For a non designer label these are hard to beat, in fact I find they wear & fit better than some a 4 or 5 times the price. Good on line service an free no quibble returns too.

Just to add a caveat about Uniqlo: Make sure that it's 100% cotton. I picked one up recently in their new Berlin shop and it had bloody polyester in it.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

J Lindberg are my favourites. Fit me better than any other brand I've tried.

Aside from Ralph Lauren and Lacoste, I would recommend Gant. The regular fit is not too baggy.

Yeah, I love them. Bought 5 last week. I tried on all sorts, including £80 Sunspels and Uniqlo's just fit better. And at £14.99 you can buy a tonne of them.

To be honest, they look a bit... dad like?

    Not my cup 'o tea!

  21. #21
How well do these Uniqlo cheapies last then? I hate it when after a few washes clothes look all faded and tufty! I have to say that I find Fred Perry the best, and they have a superb cut (but I too am not your typical TZUKer )

    sunspel worth a look

I find sunspel are decent quality...

there are two types- the Riviera which are more of a fitted look and the classic

I bought my dad a couple of the classic ones for Xmas last year- he was very impressed with the cotton and fit and they still look great

Best fitting I've found for an actual man(as oppose to a ladyboy) is Burberry Brit, and Hilfiger sport. I'm 16st, im 6.1ft and rather square. So I find all these slim fit t shirts to tight.

For a basic cotton (either pique or pima) polo shirt, I'd recommend Lands' End. Realistic, accurate sizing & reasonably priced. There's almost always a sale of some sort on, too.

They do a tall version in most shirts, which is 2" longer in the body.

I have a couple of the Sunspels:

    http://www.sunspel.com/uk/mens/polo-...olo-shirt.html

Nice and cool in hot weather. Logo-free. Collar sits properly.

Usually available in sales (e.g. Mr Porter) for £60-ish a couple of times a year.

Sunspel Rivieras are great (Daniel Craig wears them in Casino Royale) however I have had to send back and change sizing on the odd purchase. E.g. I find the black is always a tad smaller then the 007 Navy version of the same shirt

They are slim fitting and the mesh kind of conforms to your body shape!

Another for Sunspel Riviera's they really take some beating.

They were a godsend earlier in the year on my Bali/Singapore adventure. Light, perfect fit and length and not a emblem in sight which is a real bonus.

Bond also gets through about 50 bespoke Tom Ford suits per film. Jolly good thing he doesn't pay for his own clothes!

I'd go with Lacoste all day every day - you'll get fed up of it before it wears out guaranteed.

I've just passed on a twenty year old one to my mate for this very reason.

Ive got lots of them, and I'm not impressed. Every single one of them has shrank and the crocodile is now scrunched up, and needs a damn good ironing just to look semi acceptable - at a price more expensive than Armani - Lacoste need to go back to their 80's quality!
It's just a matter of time...

To be fair, my few were probably the back end of the good stuff then as I haven't bought any of their recent gear although I didn't think too much of them now being sold in MandMdirect and the like, JD Sports, etc

With the Sunspel Riviera, with a bit of careful hanging after washing, you can get away without ironing them. A big plus in my book, for casual stuff.

I'm 6ft 6 with a long body, fairly (very) chunky at the moment possibly 21 stone plus at a guess and I find the 100% cotton m&s polos (heritage line I think) a good fit and length in my size.
Just be very very careful never to put them in the drier!

    Can't answer your question.

BUT........... I would love to know why some wear the collar up!!!!!!.

Would they wear a tie-less dress shirt that way?.

+1 for Joules, excellent quality with no shrinkage / mis-shapenness after washing that several MUCH pricier brands are prone to (Polistas for one....)

You could check out Orlebar Brown too, expensive but quality with great fit.
