New arrival - Seiko Spirit SBCA001 and great service from Seiya.

I've fancied trying one of these for a while and this was my first experience of buying from Seiya.

Great pick up and go , smaller sized quartz military look with all the usual Seiko quality. Will look good on a variety of straps too and the lume is incredible and all for around £100.

What makes for an even better experience was Seiya's customer service. Watch arrived new with stickers on but some minor scratch marks to a couple of the outer links. Dropped an email to Seiya and without complaint this little package arrived today , free of charge.

Seiya had mentioned sending me a new replacement bracelet but the spring bar tool and cool distressed leather nato was a great bonus which I'm looking forward to trying on a number of watches. It's also my first leather nato though it looks so cool it may not be my last.

That looks nice, glad to hear you had such good dealings with Seiya. I'm thinking of saving up for a Marinemaster from him.

Nice Seiko, what great service, I didn't know they did leather NATOs.

    Congratulations.
Have been thinking about picking up the exact same watch myself from Seiya.
Would be interested to hear how you found the import process, and what you think of the watch itself - does the second hand hit all the marks, and is the bracelet folded or solid links?

Well the import process was pretty painless and this was my first Japanese import. Just remember to reckon on paying the 20% VAT as I did though some seem to get away without it. Biggest pain I suppose was that the watch was held up in Parcelforce's Coventry depot for over a week while they worked out the charges I suppose.

As for my views of the watch , well I haven't worn it yet as I wanted to get the bracelet issue sorted first. It looks great though and yes the second hand hits all the markers dead on. Don't think the bracelet is all solid and the endlinks certainly aren't but then I wouldn't expect that at this price.

Will try and post up some pictures when I get a chance and intend trying it on a few different natos.

Does it wear small given its case size?

Certainly not too small for my 7.5 inch wrist and will try and take some pictures this evening.

Quick phone pic for size refrence.

Will take the bracelet off at some point to try a nato and for now the leather freebie's found its way onto my old beater.

Looks just right on your wrist... Now I am tempted..

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on one of these aswell. I read a review somewhere that said the outer sections of the bracelet were solid but the inner were folded?? I can live with that but not the folded look from the outer. Any chance of a closeup of the bracelet please?

What doesn't come a cross in some is Seiya's pictures is that the centre links and clasp are brushed and the outer ones have a bead blasted look. End links fit the case very snugly and side view of bracelet hopefully shows what you need. My only slight criticism of the bracelet is that it is a little "rattly" but wouldn't put me off buying.

I love mine. Bought it on eBay from a guy who'd just received it from Seiya. It's ended up being my daily wearer beating many a more expensive watch to my wrist every morning.

I bought it to replace my PRS-10 as it seems you get so much more for the same amount of money. It's even got a dust cover over the movement and it's anti-magnetic. As a bonus mine hits ALL the markers dead on too.

Set it when the clocks changed and it's currently running 7 secs fast from then, incredible.

Seiko Spirit SBCA001 ....these seem to have dried up. Anyone know of a seller with stock?

    Thanks

It's still Probably one of my favourite watches, and I've had a few.....I still can't put my finger on what it is about it...just feels right.

  24. #24
It is a kind of classic, isn't it? ...
....and, of course, the unobtrusive size.

or is it the nice print, the made in Japan warm feeling..... who knows.

I have a very similar mechanical but it is a bit of a pain that it is not a grab and go.

Like that Alba- 200m water resistance, thanks for posting.

Ah just noticed only 34mm, possibly a bit too small for me.

The Pulsar is a great little watch and I've changed the battery twice now. I've looked at the SBCA001 a few times at Seiya but I can't justify it, it's essentially the same watch on a bracelet. Shame the Pulsar isn't available anymore, they weren't expensive and they look great on a grey nato.

Yes, the Pulsar is close. I had it in my amazon wishlist for years and never followed through.

Is it this one? If so it still exists

I hadn't noticed the size, but it looks ok, http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/alb...ar-733723.html.

I'm seriously thinking of getting one.

I'm really liking that Alba too.

If I could change anything with my Seiko it would be Titanium with a curved crystal, well, I'd like the crystal to be sapphire if I could but I'd take a gently domed Hardlex.

Alba face is a little too busy for 34mm.
there is a Hamilton, 38mm with sapphire

probably find it on eBay for less...

I had the Hamilton Khaki mechanical at 34mm. Handwound, curved sapphire, that was a nice watch, just couldn't source a bracelet for it.

The white one in that link is rather cheap. Have you used and would recommend this seller?

The first one in the link isn't a ti, 200M APBT. It's sold by Amazon so you should be OK. Have bought about 15 watches from Japan (Yahoo and Rakuten) using FromJapan and never had a problem.

Let's see how long it lasts before I buy the Alba as well.

Not sure, but a benefit of the Seiko could be the availability of different dials and hands from yokobies who specializes in the mods using Seikos.

Hope they haven't discontinued the Seiko spirit, how about a Pulsar G10 long or short handed version which could have the handset swapped, plenty of them about and quite cheap.
