I haven't noticed but maybe it's because it's a question which has been asked many times before and the poster is too lazy to research it?

I can't help noticing that every time someone asks an innocent question about anything practical, the thread soon gets a one star rating, from... who, I wonder? Would the 'one star general' care to step out of the shadows and explain the reasoning? Anything apart from 'look at my shiny new sub' seems fair game for this treatment.
And yes, I do realise that this thread probably has a one star rating right now... Sigh.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Yes. Its all a bit sad isn't it?
Ha! I wonder if anyone has EVER been put off reading a thread because some sad lonely individual gave it a one star rating...
Each to their own though - nowt so queer as folk...
The stars have no bearing on whether I'll read a thread or not. Perhaps Eddie can disable the function in the admin control panel? Seems a bit anal to go around giving threads a one star rating. Mind you there's quite a few anal retentive's here.
I always think of stars as positive ratings above a default rating of 0 stars. If I see 4 or 5 start threads, I'll assume there is something worth checking out, even if the title doesn't immediately jump out at me, but even 1 star rated thread titles get a little more consideration.
I was wondering if that was the reason so it was an honest question on my part - though it's also happened to people asking quite serious technical questions, and also questions with interesting answers. Some poor folk have one stars following them round just for existing. Considering the amazing amount of knowledge of some of the members of this forum, it would be a pity if anything other than 'look at my new luxury purchase' was shouted down.
There are stars?
Tapatalk is your friend gents. The star system doesn't exist in the world of the mobile phone!
Good question, the star rating was a mystery to me until recently.I like to hunt out the obscure posts, instead of reading about the latest Rolex or Omega offerings(mainly as I've no intention to spend that kind of money anymore).
The star rating has no importance to me,ive had zero after some of my posts.I think forum posting can be a steep learning curve for some, and seasoned forum members, may sometimes forget what it's like to be a newbie.
Oh by the way, Good post ;)
Who are these dimwits who even bother to award star ratings to threads?
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
One star is better than no star as far as I'm concerned, makes me want to click!
I’ve never paid the slightest bit of attention to the star ratings. Just to pop my cherry, so to speak, I’ve just given that CWC battery thread a resounding 5.
Like others I had no ideas stars existed until I read this thread, so they have no impact at all on how I read threads.
Haven't we been through this already?

1 Star General = Very Sad Individual, especially as they post 1 Star without posting a negative response to post. Sad and cowardly!
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
I just scan through for threads that appeal to me, (fewer and fewer these days).
Stars have no effect on my choice and I certainly wouldn't think of awarding any.
If the reason was that the question has been asked many times before, posting such a negative response would only lead to derailment of the thread. Perhaps they just don't find it interesting - why say this? People will only argue 'don't read it then', 'move on' etc, etc.
Of course people seem to forget it's a thread rating so it could also be in response to the way that the thread has gone and not a 'criticism' of the original post/poster.
Finally, does anyone give a thread 2, 3 or 4 stars. Why always 1 or 5?
This sort of thread will attract loads of ratings so your 5 might increase score from 3.3 to 3.4 (say) so still displays 3 stars.
Edit - just noticed this is posted in Watch Talk. Yes, 'no hard and fast rules' but is it the most appropriate place? Might affect some (ranting) raters ratings.

Of course... It's FULL of stars!

PS I'd noticed them but never been interested enough to wonder who (or even how one) applied them. I just ignore any thread which lists a model number (like "great new 103030 incoming!") as I know it's going to be some nerdy variant on a common watch
Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
I didn't know you could rate threads, I thought it was some automatic feature based on how popular the thread is - so how do you do it?
I'm going to go and read only 1 star threads for the remainder of this visit! Aint nobody telling me wot to read man!
