August '76 then
Well Gav that's excellent. As Paul says, that's an early August 1976 example. The earlier ones should have a large splined crown compared to later 6306/6309/7548s. I have a 7548 from 1978 that's early on in the production and that has the larger spacing on the fins of the crown. Also the 7000 I believe has a slightly different crown cutout compared to the 7001. You're won't be a 6306-7040 it should read 7000/7001. Either way there is a certain charm of the 6306 with its hacking and it being the original cushion case that spawned the 6309. For me, I wish I hadn't sold mine....but I will track another down soon I hope. The 6306 is also famed for the Scubapro text dialed version that is very sort after and can be a minefield with all the 6309s with the fake dial with the same text (incorrect font and colour however).
Anyway here is the one that's left me recently.

My first automatics. Got them this week.
Took a punt on an internet sale with dodgy photos. I didn't know much about the 7548 but after a bit of research I discovered that it has a bomb-proof quartz movement in a classic case.
Anyway, the watch arrived and I couldn't be happier. The case in in perfect nick, not a mark on it (hard to show in photos just how clean it is) and the movement is running strong, second hand hitting the markers spot on.
Picked this up for the equivalent of 60 quid! Sorry, had to mention that.
On the case back it is marked with a dot on 1984 which i think signifies first battery change, so I guess the watch is 1980?
I think I'll get this in for a service a change the seals. The crown doesn't seem to be sitting right when screwed down, it's just a bit high.
Initially put it on a rally strap.
And then on a NATO because a dive watch shouldn't really be on a rally strap.
Arrived Saturday and put on a strap from Watchgecko. I did think of an Isofrane but was considerably more expensive.
For what it's worth this watch beats anything I own at present. For the price it's pound for pound the best I have.

I didn't know that.
Serial number reveals production date of October 1981.
Thanks!

I am quite fond of this vintage Seiko officially certified chronometer from 1972, a pig to capture due to the faceted crystal.
Out with my SUN025 yesterday and took a few photos on my phone. Just had a proper look and I think this one is great. This Nato really suits this watch and makes it look quite purposeful, much better than the bracelet which looks a bit too dressy I think.
Could not resist the heads up about good prices from Skywatches the other week and this SRP787 arrived yesterday,
This is my 4th one (Zimbe, Padi, 779 and this 787) and I think I'm done now unless they release an orange dial...
As a very wise man once posted on a forum, this release is a slam dunk from Seiko.
41 years old this October, here's my most recent vintage Seiko quartz purchase, the King Seiko model 0853. All original, even its hammered finish KQ bracelet and working like a charm. Case shows some of the wear of time, but crystal is pretty clean and the dial and hands are perfect with lovely deep hour markers.
My collection in a single pic as of a few days ago
Regrettably the LE MM300 has now gone to another forum member.

Wanted - Damasko DC57
Horrid pic but my Grand Seiko box is full, bar an impostor.
Bought a SKXA33 on honeymoon 14 years ago. Come to think of it, sums our marrige up perfectly: Solid, reliable and requires only the ocassional servicing!
Still runs a treat and is accurate to less that 10 seconds a day. The Hardex Crystal has proven near indistructable with the only scratch being froma lintel that fell on it (and nearly broke my wrist) building an extension.
Can't seem to add a pic (was meant to be a stock pic as away at moment and watch resting at home)

New arrival this morning..
I had sourced a Padi Turtle via the forum but I wanted something a bit dressier. I did a bit of browsing and came across the first version with the 7S26 movement. There was a rose gold model, but it had the 7S26 which put me off a bit. I quite liked the 4r36 movement in the Padi and then read that the 2nd generation Stargate had the 4r36. I did a bit of digging and voila, there was a rose gold version, which looked much nicer than the limited edition yellow gold version. I can live with the Cyclops and it seems the same type as the Zimbe Turtle.
It arrived this morning and so far I'm impressed. The "rose gold" is in mint condition but I'm going to put it on a black PVD NATO, or a rose mesh and alternate it with the SUN017. The bezel action is amazing. Not only does it seem to be the same ceramic material as my SUN017 but it's much much easier to grip than the Padi Turtle, it clicks more accurately and has no virtually no play. I also prefer the rectangular indices to the round ones on the Turtle and Seiko moved from the lollipop at the wrong end of the second hand (imho) to a lumed arrow tip. I wished they'd done this on the Turtle tbh.
It also has drilled lugs, the same as the Turtle. I don't mean to run the Turtle down, it's a fine watch but having owner both I actually prefer the Stargate.
