This is why I love the Seiko divers. Great presence, great functionality and great no-nonsense design with a complete absence of pretension.

And, if I'm not mistaken, the trademark misaligned bezel. Perfection!

    Well, I guess so, I suppose ;)

It's funny. I'd always thought I would hate having a misaligned bezel on a watch of mine and it seems such a trivially easy thing to get correct. However, when my Solar Tuna arrived there was indeed a slight misalignment, not very noticeable but definitely there when you look carefully, perhaps a quarter of a click's worth. To my surprise though, I find it just doesn't bother me and now I almost see it as a quirk and part of the watch's charm. Perhaps I'd feel differently if the watch were more expensive / less toolish, I don't know.

Same Seiko as yesterday, but appears much different, in another kind of light

  21. #5321
Back from a few weeks work and this has arrived:

It was listed as not working, but a new battery and a reset saw it spring back into life.

A new crystal is clearly called for!

A couple of quick questions that perhaps the experts here can answer?

The bezel turns freely - indeed too freely. Is it meant to, or is there a clicker or some other kind of restraint to tighten it up? Also any particular issues to be aware of when removing the bezel?

I don't think so Brad but I've that many 7548's over the past 15 years it is possible.

Actually though the previous one I had I think was from 1981 and had a very slightly misaligned day wheel I think. I bought that one around 10 years ago from j111dja (Dave) who also sold this one here a few months back.

    Cheers

^^ will you replace the bezel? Or not? If not I would go with some distressed leather strap. I’m not a big fan of leather on divers but I think it would look nice on this one.

Here is my one of my favourite vintage Seiko's.... J12082 Seikomatic Silverwave from September 1963. There were 30m Sportsmatic and 50m Seikomatic variants of Silverwave.
This is the predecessor to the 6217-800x '62mas' introduced in 1965. The Silverwave was the first Seiko to feature the Tsunami design caseback which became a feature of all Seiko dive watches. It was more of a snorkeler than a dive watch. The Silverwave name continued for many years through the 1970's but by then they had evolved into a dress watch of little interest to us nowadays.

    Show your Seikos.

Little mod on my latest Turtle - I have 2 at the mo, a grey dial and this blue.
Added a ceramic stealth bezel and am painting in the markers in a light gloss grey enamel paint. Needs another coat, and a clean up but you get the idea. Will grey out each 5 min marker, all of the the first 15 minute markers, and numerals, then gloss black the remaining minute markers
