eBay strikes again! A 1990 7T32 Alarm Chrono. Despite their faults, I love these movements - with a completely independent 2nd timezone at 6 o'clock and that cool whizzy alarm mode where the hands fly round to set the alarm.

Stuck it on a Cousins Sub replica strap and love it. Fits to perfection on the case.

Thank you! 28.800 is also unusual for a Seiko.

Would be grateful for the thoughts of those in the know on this:

It purports to be a 7002-7000 and the serial number would date it to 1991.

The crown screws in nicely, the bezel does line up correctly, and there is little if any brassing of the case or crown, but for no particular reason other than the remarkably good overall condition I am a little suspicious that there are a number of replacement parts involved.

If it really is 27 years old then it must have led a very sheltered life!

Well the bezel insert is AM and I suspect after market dial and hands as well.......

    Many thanks.

I have another 7002-7000 that appears to be genuine, and now putting them side by side shows that the luminous "pip" is clearly different between the two.

Are there any other obvious "tells", and is there anything particular I should check when it comes to the movement itself?

They are at different angles, so catch the light slightly differently, but looking now I would guess the silver/white surrounds on the hour markers and the shade of orange/red in the "Water 150m Resist" would point to an AM dial?

    Whole watch is aftermarket.

Original 7002 are rare as hens teeth. And surprisingly not expensive.

Original bezel insert has different font, original dial has completely different lume plots and hands.

Easiest way to recognise is the "mesh" structure of lume and colour. It degrades into yellowish hue and often into gray black if exposed to moisture.

Aftermarket are most common thing. They were popular in East Asia as work watches and used in humid climate and often never serviced for years. They were just to cheap for rehaul. It breaks down, you buy a new one. So locals were left with piles of broken divers.. And came with brilliant idea to put AM parts on them.

EDIT : I just saw the post.

Coudl you post a close up of marker at 6 and model code in the bottom of it?

Many thanks - that's really useful info.

Here is the 6 marker and model code:

    Another question if I may.

With the original 7002 I have sourced a replacement sapphire glass from CrystalTimes, and was also considering replacing the crown (the original is considerably "brassy"), but am now wondering if it would be better to leave those "as is" and simply carry on the mods with the new watch and treat that as a beater?

I realise that 7002's are not the most desirable of watches, but I don't want to end up with two Trigger's Brooms rather than just one.

    Yup. AM.

Ermm.. Leave the upper one. From what I see it is original.

AM can be moded and used as a beater.

I think that 7002s will become the next "desired Seiko". In a while.

    Great, thank you.

I am not sure quite why they are not more popular, as they are a great size and seem pretty robust. The original keeps great time too.

Vintage 7548-700b on a new Uncle Seiko z199 bracelet, great match. Obviously also bang on the Pepsi jubilee trend...

Another one I had forgotten about....a Seiko Silverwave Quartz

Most 7002's have been ruined by aftermarket dials, hands and bezels, then the cases ovepolished to blur all the original lines, thereby reducing their value to almost nothing but advertised on ebay as "Expertly Refurbished, Professionally Polished" etc... Ebay is full of them.

Untouched original 7002's are becoming quite scarce and are getting very desirable. I buy them whenever I see them.
Here's one of mine....This is one of the later 200m 7002-7039:

I'd love to add a 4th to my 7A38 lot... but can't find one that hits the spot... finding good ones takes time (and luck!)

Here's my 7A38-701B "Vulcan" The Vulcan myth has been discredited but it's a very scarce 7A38 produced only for a few months in late 1983.

I might have posted this rare Teal 7548-700C from December 1984 before, but if I have it was a long time ago:

0008 arrived today, everything I expected, the strap is super comfortable, it isn't the soft dust magnet or the rigid type, well done Seiko.

It is bigger Diameter is 49mm compared to the solar at 47mm and thickness is a big difference 16mm to 12mm, but the SBBN040 is in a different league.

I have no doubt it is on a different league! Looks much thicker but not that much bigger. The solar is a good tribute to it though especially for the price, will you keep it now?

Capturing the incredible shades of green on this have proved very difficult with a camera. However, I achieved my best result so far this morning.

Had this 1977 7009-8081 in the watch box for a while in a rather sad state. I decided to do it up - new mineral glass, re-lumed the hands light case polish. Quite pleased with how it turned out.

Beautiful watch - I think this along with the Snowflake are my favourite GS Spring Drives. They bring a slightly different style to the table, giving some originality. Enjoy!

Thanks, I love it.... Just need to get those extra links to enjoy it on the bracelet. I could be tempted with a Snowflake at some point, too!

    Here it is in good company in the Seiko box;
