The dial on this mesmerised me and it was an instant and unexpected purchase.

One of my first acquisitions from the forum back in 2009. Let’s see if the original
    owner spots it!!

Many many watches have come and gone in the intervening period and I have to say this has never been considered for the chop.

This the rarer SCVS003 rather than the later SARB version, with what I feel is the better bracelet over the stock Seiko oyster on the SARB.

This has got to be one of the most underrated watches around I feel, although the similar SARBs seem to have actually become more expensive of late.

Elegant design, built really well and such a perfect size for me at 38mm.

Despite being up against watches much more valuable, it remains my favourite watch for the amount of joy it has given me.

I wanted to try a Monster for a while so I found this first generation one on eBay. The hardlex had a couple of scratches in it so I fitted a flat sapphire crystal. It came on a horrible Uncle Seiko velcro strap so I have been trying it on a couple of options...

    Green FKM rubber waffle..

    Strapcode Oyster ...

Can’t make my mind up !

To my mind it’s the best looking Monster. Had one for a while but found it a bit weighty - but I don’t think I tried it without the bracelet.

Must say it looks good on that waffle.

This H556-501B arrived earlier this week.

I have been after one for over a year but prices are strong, even for fairly shabby ones. But my patience paid off when this came up on auction as not working. A bit of biddi later and it was mine (for my second limit ). Happily it only need a new battery although I had a donor watch lined up.

It is pretty much unworn with no marks except for a couple of tool marks on the case back. The strap is original, although I am not too sure about the compass. Very happy with this new arrival.

I have swapped it on to a new two piece nylon.

Wearing my 78. 6309 wabi turtle, you can only guess the kind of life it’s lead. The insert is so unique I absolutely love the brushed aluminium against the steel case.

Testing this combo to alternate with the OEM strap. Very confortable as usual with the MN straps and you don't feel you have such a beast on the wrist

I picked up this old 1970’s 6309-8060 on eBay, it was battered and not running, but I liked the look of it and thought I could fix it up.

After a complete strip down, movement clean, new crystal, case refurb & new strap it looks like this....

Under all of that dirt and abuse was a nice blue sunburst dial, a nice little watch worth saving I think.

Didn’’t think I’ would like the MM300 on a tropic strap but enjoying the vintage vibe.

One from the recent King Samurai PSA

It looks massive in that shot but it really isn’t and feels to wear smaller still due to the chamfered case edges.

My unpolished, 1983 6309-7049 is just back after a full service and some added fettling via Guy. (Thanks Guy).

    Back on the original crystal.

New yesterday - MM300, the gateway MM200 having taken full effect. I'm very impressed that such a large watch can be so comfortable. And the Timegrapher shows +4 :)

Always wanted an MM300 but thought they would be too much heft for me. I’ve recently entered gateway territory with an MM200 - how much bigger do you find the real one?

It is clearly heavier and taller than the MM200 but not as much as I was expecting. Looking down at it on the wrist, there's very little real visual size difference. The lugs are a little chunkier and it's sitting higher on the wrist but neither is an issue. It's when you see it from the side that the taller case height becomes noticeable. The weight is something you get used to quickly. The key would be to get the bracelet sized right, possibly even a tad tight, as of course you do have the ratcheting clasp. I generally wear my watches loose on their bracelets. You could not do that with the MM300.

The newer MM200s definitely capture the feel of the MM300 but the differences are the case quality and construction, the black dial is deep and glossy, the lume is miles better, as is the ratcheting clasp, the second hand sweep from the 8L35 movement and the crystal which although flat is domed internally. It is worth £1.5K more than the 200? I thought so before buying it and definitely after.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers

Thanks for the really detailed reply. It is the probably the thickness I’m most nervous about. Briefly had a marathon GSAR that was thiiick, seemed to catch it on everything including my kids forehead! Im quite happy with the MM200 for now, but pretty sure I will need to get my hands on an MM300 one day
