    What are your other passions?

We all love watches obviously and guess they are not our only passion, so what's yours?

I for one love motorbikes. Grew up with them as a kid. Beamish Suzuki allowed be to piss off my local farmers during my tender years and a Honda CB125T ensured I was the coolest dude in college. At least that's what I thought .

Only recently got back into biking these past 2 years (part of my ongoing mid-life crisis so my wife says!) and what a journey it's been. Apart from the thrill of riding the camaraderie with fellow bikers makes it very special. I'm a bit of a bike whore in having loyalty to all and have gone through a fair few bikes to date.

I do love my V-Twins, combined with the extremes of having a cruiser and sports bike, depending how the mood takes you. Currently have the Fat Bob which I just love. It's a Harley so it's not perfect, having already broken down on me, but it sings to me which is all that matters.

Just need to find that next Sports bike. What fun!

My past passions were, scuba diving which i gave up after 11 years after my son was born.
I had a passion for specialist hifi over 30 years as i loved music,i had a love of music as i played the drums semi professionally from the age of 12.
Last year i sold all off my hifi off to concentrate on my love of watches,my interests are much simpler these days as i love to camp and fell walk in the lake district.

My first passion were stamps than military knives and now besides watches is BJJ.

Walking for me as it can combine my love of the countryside (*), fresh air away from the masses, and usually squirrelling out a cracking country pub to enjoy my other passion of food, in particular modern English / French.

(* Though recently I've done a fair bit of London canal tow path walking - chance to enjoy the remnants of industrial architecture that one can find)

For the last 4 or 5 years, Scuba Diving (wish I'd discovered it sooner - dive mostly with a BSAC club, but will squeeze in a dive whenever possible - as in California recently) and I love Skiing (for 30 years now), but usually just have a week a year.

Was I the only one who, with some trepidation, Googled BJJ?

General aviation - I've been flying for over ten years and it still gives me a buzz. I don't do nearly as much as I'd like to because it's hard to find the time and get the right weather.

I recently got back into golf after a long absence. I really enjoy the game, however I don't particularly enjoy golf clubs. In my experience, they have the highest ratio of knobs to nice people I've encountered.

More of a vice than a passion, but I love wine, craft beer and single malts.

I'd love to get into scuba diving. I'm from the West of Ireland and I'm told that there is some very good diving there, it would be a shame to not experience it.

Scuba diving and aviation for me...

Unfurtunately the time is limited so only dive on holidays now and I fly model aeroplanes as real soaring clubs are too far for me. Started with quadcopters lately and want to learn flying FPV this summer. Started model slope soaring too as we both like walking in the Peak District so I can do both...
I love airshows, mostly aerobatics (Extra, Cap, Yak, Su- type planes)

My car is my other hobby too, but with no garage I can't really tinker with it...at least I can wax&polish and then put my foot down

Bikes for me too. But living on the IOM and finishing school here, riding school boy trials with school friend Steve Colley, and competing in Enduros, it would be strange if I didn't. Both my eldest brother and father used to race, and I've had a bike since I could walk, and have pics of the brother taking me on the back when I was around 2 and he was 5.

I have a soft spot for BMW twins and we now have about 10 in the family, amongst many other bikes, all the way through BMW to Yamaha, with a Ducati, an NSU and some Norton's in there for good measure.
It's just a matter of time...

Bikes are my alternative passion too, my last one being a KTM Superduke. My college steed was a Honda MBX 125 which had a little more go than its four stroke brother but no electric starter though. Currently hankering after an old Gsxr 1100 which I used to drool over in our local bike shop. I would go for the Rg500 but prices on these have gone crazy over the last few years and I can see the same happening to the Gsxr.

Fantastic selection of bikes you have/had, love the Triumph and the Diavel, any idea which sports bike might next scratch the itch?

Watches are not a passion for me.

    Family and nature, true passions.

Lots of hobbies, but all less intimate, less intensive.

    Perhaps a bit anal but.........

Although I wouldn't really describe any of these, including watches, as a passion.

I have worked out since age 18 and still go to the gym @ 54 and still enjoy it.
The most interesting and challenging hobby was flying light aircraft out of EGNM {Multiflight}.I haven't flown since
way back in 2004 and miss it but it's not crying out for me to fly again, been their done it.
Always liked watches I guess, but I can't say why it suddenly took a hold tbh,I can see the date I joined TZ but it could only have been
via browsing that I found the site as no one introduced me to the forum.
And I/We love our holidays, which we can now do upto 4 times a year now.

Last year I bought a new Ford Mustang "Boss 302" as a fun car for weekends.
My daily is an E63 AMG Mercedes.
I ride a Stage IV modified Harley Davidson.

^^^I did a tandem sky dive a couple of years ago and found it quite boring! Is it more enjoyable to do it solo?

No real passion other than SWMBO, family and the dog. But I do love comics, fishing, some music and being outdoors.

^^^ That's a shame. I suppose it depends on whether you'd rather be in control and responsible for for your own life or not? Or if you're up to it?

i get a huge kick out of introducing someone into the sport in this way. However, solo skydiving takes many forms and many disciplines, so it's hard to say whether you'd get anything out of skydiving in any other fashion, but I certainly do in all its various offerings.

Seriously, if you found it boring then it's obviously too tame for you and your excitement threshold is way beyond most peoples, including mine - you really need to try an extreme sport instead... ;o)

Great examples of good design in those first 3 categories. Have some mid-century furniture and some B&O hi-fl but haven't had a classic car for some years now. Wouldn't say I have a passion for these things, more of an interest, just down to time and space!

I've quite a few hobbies interest, but nothing I would call a 'passion' that takes up the lionshare of my time and money (that's work and children, in that order).

Motorbikes, scuba diving, traveling, food food food, hifi/music.

I have a tendency to be a bit of a gear sl*t, so every once I a while I have to remind myself that it's all about experiences not accumulating gadgets. While I love (window) shopping for new shiny things, it's the music and the actual bike riding that I love, not polishing bikes and swapping amplifiers.

I do love food. My memory is mostly rubbish, but I can always remember what I've eating at a certain occasion or place.

If you're going to live on it full time you're going to need to cover the whole roof with crap. For a start it stops the Canada geese landing on it and screaming at each other in mating season. If you haven't heard one of the buggers landing on your roof every 30 minutes through the night and then had to get out and wave a boat hook at it then you haven't lived (on a narrow boat!).

I wouldn't say they were passions but I like my classic cars, driving them, drinking beer and eating cheese. I also have a collection of car and racing posters from the 1930s to 1970s.

Anyone taken up a hobby as justification for buying a new watch?

  31. #31

    Horse racing

I just love horse racing... Especially jumps racing.
People are passionate, friendly, it's not an over expensive interest as nobody forces you to bet big.
I like to follow form, love a punt, and enjoy the opinions and fun of proving myself right or wrong.
I've only been to Paris for the Arc when it comes to racing abroad, but our racing is the envy of the world.
Try it for FREE at Towcester as it's free entry at most meetings!

Drawing in ink for me ... along with motorbikes and watching speedway. I also have a huge love for tattoos.

Current work in progress is this Spitfire...

though a recent fun piece I did for someone was this leapord gecko... so trying to be diverse in what I draw lately.

And before that, a speedway piece, Erik Gundersen of Denmark, triple world champion... and my pride and joy on this is the blurred rear wheel.

I'd say watches were a serious interest rather than really a passion.

I'm passionate about hiking (ideally between unspoiled country pubs of an afternoon) and live classical music and opera. Those I share with the wife.

I'm passionate on my own about photography, and about motorsports (particularly the McLaren F1 team, which I've supported for the past 45ish years).

Cycling's my passion, whether it's fettling or building bikes, riding them or watching pro-cycling. No better way of spending a Sunday afternoon than collapsing on the sofa after a long morning ride to watch 3+ hours of cycle racing - particularly love the Spring Classics so in my element at the moment.

    I like them too!

My first taste of a Beemer was when I borrowed my mate's 100GS one year to go off to Spa for a round of the endurance series - what an eye opener that was! The experience persuaded me to sell my Ducati Paso and get myself one!

That led to an 1100GS, and then to my current 1200GS, which I've had for 7 years now.

You'll have been there the same era as me mate in my youth....

I remember our 'clashes' with Cradley, as a Dukes fan Kenny Carter was the man, his rivalry with Bruce Penhall was box office, featured in the nationals and all sorts. Pure box office.

I go to watch Sheffield at Owlerton every other Thursday (shifts make it a fortnightly affair), and still love the sport.

Does this sound familiar?? " 'Ommer em!"

Chasing that skill is enjoyable to me and it's nice to do something where I'm not thinking about work or anything else and I'm totally focused on that moment in time. But the bottom line is that skydiving is dangerous and it's expensive, so if it doesn't float your boat and you can't give it the concentration it requires, you'd be daft to do it. Spend your money on something that does.

I just didn't get any rush from it. When we landed there was no urge to get straight back up there because of the buzz, or lack of. At no point did I feel any danger. It's a shame really, because I thought it would be something I'd like to take up, but based on the tandem I'm a bit too nervous to pile funds into if it's not going to be any better.

Maybe I'll give it another go some day.

I felt the same way about parasailing. My wife bought me a taster day for my birthday. I did quite enjoy it and flew on my own but it didn't really give me a buzz.

I do enjoy Enduro and track days but don't really do enough if them these days!
