In my personal collection of Swiss divers I would say both the Tudor Hydronauts and both Zenith Rainbows get the most compliments, comments and questions asked them. Both series are very different, the Hydronauts are slightly more toolish and the Rainbows are more dressy. The Tudornauts are also slightly bigger, OK both the Tudors and Zeniths are 39mm cases but the Hydronauts are 47mm lug to lug and 11mm high whereas the Rainbows are 45mm lug to lug and ultra slim of 9mm in height.
So I rate the Hydronauts and Rainbows as joint second in my collectionHowever number 1 range in my personal collection is the Eterna Super KonTiki. Quality is superb, on a par with my Omega, Montblanc or B&M. The bracelets are simply the best too methinks
The Super KonTiki is also a perfect size for my 7-inch wrists, 40mm case with 47mm lug to lug. Great weight and awesome wrist presence.
Oh and some cool colours as well

The nicest caseback.
I had two KonTiki's from the late '60's - still have one. Beautifully made watches with some lovely touches like the gold medallion on the caseback, signed crowns, logo embossed into the plexi's and great movement. Very under-rated IMO.

Had this one for several years. Stupidly sold it and now I can't find one remotely close to what I originally paid...
WOS sell eterna , , i was recently looking at this one , tho at just under £1300 for an sw200 movement im not sure.

Hi PickleB, yes you are correctthe orange one is a limited edition. To celebrate 50 years of the KonTiki range they manufactured in 1997:
a) 250 blue dial watches
b) 249 orange dial watches

The only KonTiki I have... some sort of special edition with a gold bezel. I would wear it if I could find someone able and willing to repair the chip out of the case...
Do not forget the concept version that is a bargain to be find.
Remember when i was quoted 7000 euros and 10 months waiting to get one, thru Ad in Germany.
Later found one, at half price brand new.........
Today you can get one at 1800 to 2500 £ unused.

Four great KonTiki's there! I do like the one on the far right. What's the case size? I'm guessing 40mm but it just looks bigger than the 39mm one in the middle........
Love the fancy fold out one Hans has, but what is it for? ( apart from telling the time)
Without measuring it I think it's about 40mm. Best thing about it though is it's thickness - about 9mm.
Should finally get my hands on this one tomorrow

I am resurrecting this old thread. A few back I bought this first series Kontiki from 1958 (my birthyear) and it's the nicest kontiki of this series I ever saw.
Never polished 36.8mm case, stunning glossy original dial (these rarely age well), yellow gold markers, case-back with still clearly visible raft and serial number, 1414U movement. Original Gay-Freres bracelet marked 2-58. If it wasn't for the oxidized hands, it would look just released from the factory instead of being 54 years old. The crown doesn't have the 5 balls but it's still original.
My watchmaker did a complete service and cleaning, replaced the crystal and the ball-bearing (it was a bit loose) and brought back the bracelet to its original (bi-tonal) shine.
Here it is for your review.

I first saw an Eterna Kontiki as a school boy in 1963. It was in a jewellers window for at least 2 years and was priced at £45. I wondered how could a steel watch cost so much. When I got into watch collecting I went through a phase of getting Eternas and I particularly like the reissue Kontiki made in the 90's, I had 3 of these at one time. Would love to get a good condition original 1958 version. The latest 4 hand is a beauty but just too big. Bring back 36 - 38 mm for me.

On the net I've found a picture of a blue dial Super KonTiki 300m 50y LE. The back is numbered, but out of 499 (ie the total number of both blue and orange versions). It this correct, please? Can you have a look at your orange dial Eterna and, perhaps, post a close-up photo?

Many thanks, Mark. That confirms what I'd thought, that the orange and blue 50y limited editions share one numbering sequence. It also tells me something that I should, perhaps, have realised earlier, that their model number is 1577.41.
