What Watch To Use With Nato?

I'm after an ideal NATO watch.

I used to wear my Tag Carrera on a NATO, but now find it's now my go to leather watch. I would like some suggestions for a cheap watch to primarily sit on a NATO please. Say £200 - £300 new or used. Preferably simple black face, so it can accompany many different NATO straps. I would like mechanical - not bothered if automatic but preferable. Sub 42mm, 39mm ideal. Lug 20mm, so it fits my existing NATO collection. 100m WR. I would not rule out not having a date, but I much prefer it to have one.

Eddie's 29b is almost perfect, but it doesn't have a date. And more importantly SWMBO has the 29a, I don't want to give her any opportunity to plan for us to have matching "outfits"!

Your suggestions would be most welcome.

If you need to know the date, buy a newspaper.

SBIII GMT, or the non-GMT version to keep it closer to your price range...

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Both the Everest and Speedbird are top of the list. But one doesn't have a date and the other is slightly over budget.

    Keep the suggestions coming.

Glycine crops up on SC or the 'bay some times,

    As do Seiko 100mm

Or even Parnis on the 'bay and that won't matter if it gets clouted by a hammer

The Seiko SBCM023 is interesting. Do you have any pics of it on a NATO?

You are correct. But I really want something that is suited best to a NATO. If it looks best on a bracelet or leather I'm concerned I'll just keep switching back from a NATO.

Seiko SKX007. perfect on a NATO, perfect size and will take plenty of abuse if required.

Something military-ish. Take a look at the Seiko RAF Gen II. You can get a nice non-issued for that, maybe even an issued one.

Oops, only Water Resistant, so no good to you.

Afraid not (never been quick enough when they pop up on SC) - I have loads of pics of a SD on a NATO though! Similiar sort of look - the SBCM is sometimes called the poor mans DRSD!

Glycine Airman? 39mm, 20mm lugs and it has a date (I read the question!). Yes it is much more expensive, but can be had new for a fraction of the optimistic RRP. If you don't like 24 hour dials, there is a regular 12 hour version with GMT complication that works the same way as the Speedbird GMT. Black dial is available.

Purists may comment that a watch like this weren't sold with NATOs, but they were popular with US airmen in the late 60s. And they're part of NATO, so...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

I'm going to play my joker and suggest this:
    http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men...-skwbrg22.html

I own one, the case it really solid and robust, dependable ETA movement and it looks the berries on a NATO.

Christopher Ward C61: 38mm, available on a (fairly decent) NATO and it has a date too, albeit in a slightly awkward position on the dial.

If PRS-29b is not the option (which is perfect IMHO),
    then Precista 93 PRS-18A.
And don't bother yourself with the date.

I just bought the automatic 42mm today. I don't have anything appropriate to try it on yet, but I expect it's perfectly suited to a NATO.

These are also great value for money. Eta 2824-2. Sapphire front and back. 100m water resistance. The leather it comes on isn't bad at first impressions either.

Here's a terrible, blurry iPhone picture hosted on tapatalk so it's too tiny to actually see:

SKZ325 I think - I believe they relatively hard to find over here in the UK

    Nice looking piece though

I like Seiko divers on a Nato - 007, or 009 if you want more variety of colour?
I've worn my SKX023 on loads of natos.

These titanium Revue Thommen Aispeed Chronos look OK on a NATO, too, I reckon. Low key finish to match low key strap.
