The new Zenith Pilot... With faux radium patina?!

So we've had the new Aquatimers which weren't a massive hit (I know I don't like them compared to the previous models) this month. Now there's the tiny 48mm Pilot GMT from Zenith, with rather strange faux patina.

At first glance, I actually liked it, and I think I'd try one out if they made it in a 42/44mm case, however at 48mm, this large watch craze is just getting silly...

i like it... but on my tiny wrist i'll look like a fool! so basically like you said, if it were circa 42mm this would be an amazing watch!

Agreed with your comments, maybe at 42mm or 40mm I'd give it a go but at that size it's crazy!

It would also be good to see some normal photos rather than cgi/played with images! Hard to get an idea of what it would truly be like.....

In general I am not a huge fan of faux aged lume. Although, they certainly have been able to take it to the next level.

As for the size, silly indeed...

The size might be pushing it, as many have said, but I'd like to see how it interacts with the bund strap in a wristshot, at some point. Might not be too bad on the right wrist

Looks great but too big! 42mm would be perfect. Is the case PVD or ceramic?

Not a fan of fake patina, or even real, but I quite like this. Too big for me though.

Not so keen on the watch but that Bund is stunning!

Horrible, looks like a poorly made fake, in fact I've seen better 'aged' lume on homemade watches on the fake forums.

They didn't even bother to match the lume on the hands.

I would be willing to bet that that 57.5mm wears more like a 60+mm watch with all that extra leather in the bund. A clown size watch for all but the largest of giants.

...and I think they needed to fit a bund strap because without it that daft oversize crown would dig into your wrist deep enough to draw blood!

I don't mind it, but I would prefer a full size second hand. I'm not too keen on sub dials if they are not necessary.

I like it in concept but yes it's too big for anyone really. At 42mm I'd wear that often.

I'm intrigued by the size of that watch. People talk about the "large" watch (i.e. 44 mm and above) fad being over but that appears to be far from the way things are heading. Reasonably well-respected brands like Zenith and IWC seem to still be increasing the size of their watches. I don't know where it will end, will we see regular 50 mm watches soon? I think that a lot of younger guys getting into watches see 42 mm as small. Either way, I think that larger watches are going to be with us for a while.

That lume looks very peculiar and the watch itself is hardly a looker. My money is safe from that purchase.

I love it, I think the lume looks incredible. Its nice to see a big manufacture making something interesting for a change.

Not sure IWC is regarded as well respected these days...? Certainly less than they used to be. Anyway,

    - number of watches sold annually in this sort of size: thousands, maybe even the mid-thousands
    - number of watches sold annually in the 36-42mm range: tens of millions

The rich/footballers may be shorter of normal-sized options these days to display their maximally extreme wealth, I agree ;).
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Looks like it was made by "Diesel"...

Quite like the design but hate the size. Such a shame as it would have looked great at 42-43mm.

Preaged lume is terrible imo regardless of watch model.

    Looks ludicrous.

At least put a decent handwinding movement of considerable size in that huge case.
We are always laughing at fashion brands putting a tiny 2824 in a huge case, but Zenith is now also guilty as charged.

That little seconds hand looks out of place in the big dial, not a nice sight.

mmm..not one of the nicest Zenith designs, and way too big for normal use IMO

I usually wear 38-40mm IWC or Zenith, and 42mm is getting a bit large for my wrist, especially if its a thick weighty movement

I will stick to the classic Zeniths :)

Being Swiss and being Zenith, I wonder how much the plastic spacer costs to replace inside that overly large case?

Love that; reminds me of the Azimuth pilots watch.

I like the original but this definitely wouldn't be for me .

it looks great and the size is perfect

    it's a pilot watch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the IWC Big Pilot …. "BIG" pilot … they didn't call it the small pilot :-)

These watches need to be big

Why are some of us always complaining about the size ?

It looks like they have caught 'steampunk' disease... whats the diameter of the movement?

Im undecided on whether I like it or not so far, would have to see it in vivo

The people who are buying them aren't pilots ;). In a modern cockpit, they'd be a liability, not to mention entirely superfluous!

But do you think most people who buy dive watches are professional divers :-)

    Where do I start...

Fake patina... god, that looks ridiculous.

A pilot, eh? Yeah... a Diesel "pilot" maybe.

You have a point, but many dive watches are still regular sized and still useful as a backup, or even a primary time source if you don't own a Suunto or whatever. I also have this more general suspicion that the bigger the watch, the less likely it is to be used for its design purpose...

    Not missing the point.

The thing looks ridiculous, with that "lost" little seconds hand on the big dial.
If you want to make a true hommage, put a true movement inside, and not the little Elite.

Love the design, but would want in 42/43mm , and without the awful camouflage lume …. did the design department go on a paint ball team building exercise the day before the big meeting!
