    Rolex GMT advice

    Evening all,

This is only my second post and I am after some advice.

I am contemplating buying a second hand Rolex on ebay (the item number is 321286773669) if anybody wants to take a closer look. The watch has everything with it as you'd expect from a 2009 watch, but.....in the advert is to stats they have upgraded the strap to a non polished Submariner gripper strap and clasp.

    My questions are this:

Can this be done via Rolex?
    Is the watch genuine?
    Should I be suspicious?
    Is this unusual?

I am considering chipping in my UK Submariner 2006 (which had a service in 2011) against it for a straight swap. Any thoughts a steer and some advice would be really appreciated.

    Kindest regards

    Chris

Firstly, I see no sign of the warrant card or receipt.

Personally, I'd be very nervous, could be anything.

Why take the gamble on eBay? there are numerous reputable used Rolex dealers up and down the country who can take the worry away from your expensive purchase. With due respect, if you are asking if a watch is genuine or not, eBay is not the place you should be buying your Rolex

I have had a GMTCII and I now have the BLNR, I have posted before about the lack of adjustment in the clasp and what a good idea it would be if Rolex fitted the glidelock system the sub has.

It looks like he's fitted a later sub bracelet, I have no clue if this can be done without modification but it looks like it can.

The card is there it's in the back of the box in one of the pictures it looks ok to me just the bracelet Q?.

If your collecting maybe take it to a dealer for them to have a look.

I don't know if the end links are different, but the Sub clasp fits easily
It's just a matter of time...

Chris, by this do you mean the eBay seller is prepared to accept your Submariner for his GMT?

Thanks, this is a job for the New Year,...B.O.T the bracelet in the pic looks like a subs ???? maybe he has brushed the center links.

I saw this as well. He's relisted 4 times due to time wasters- either he's very unfortunate or the prospective buyer has found something very wrong with the watch (e.g. no papers)

I would (and did) steer well clear.

The fact it's been relisted 4 times would put me off but if a F2F was possible why not go for a look, leaving your sub at home until you're sure it's the real deal.

Guys, thank you for your replies really appreciated. I will keep my 2006 Sub and steer clear of a straight swap. I will sell my Sub and then move towards a ceramic GMT. If anybody knows of anyone whom maybe interested please feel free to pass on my details for a PM. Thanks again all.

The bracelets are interchangeable as well as the clasps.

Is it just me or do the number fonts on the bezel look too thin? Especially the 14.

Lampoc so right. I've just compared it to my GMT on my wrist and it doesn't look kosher.

The bezel certainly does not match. It's subtle but it's not identical.

Just be very very careful when purchasing any watches with value on Ebay. I bought a Omega AT a little while ago .Seller said it had a full 24 month warranty but on inspection the warranty card was not dated. The reply from the seller was Omega make too much profit just give it 24 months and fill the warranty card in with a false date. They will never know.

Sent straight back for a full refund.

Seller had great feedback as well. That sort of behavior and practice just puts me off purchasing from there.

PS. That GMT looks alright but the seller couldn't take a decent photo to save his life

Forget about the bezel The EBay watch is a fake because the hand stack is wrong The hand stack is always wrong on a GMT fake.

What's wrong about it? Having studied the 2 pictures for the last few minutes I can't see what you mean.

Looking at the hand stack I can not tell from the photo but I am blind

first GMT Hour Min Sec, unless I am missing something, if I buy from ebay (very rare) I always collect and inspect.

^^^^ the GMT-Master II is in white ^^^^^ should be green.

    On my Black/blue it's

Hour GMT Min Sec, I have read that more expensive fake's have the correct hand stack, so then it's down to the feel of the watch and a quick dunk in the bath

Ask for a photo of the hour and GMT hand together taken from the side.

Yeah, that one was pretty obvious but it was the only picture I could find where the hour hand was directly above the GMT hand.

It's really easy to see if you look at the axis of the hands . It is always the easy tell for the GMT Only Rolex make a movement with that hand stack .

I have asked some questions and for some more images, earlier today but have not had a reply yet, so what does that say about the sale........also he may have a few of them, hence all the 'sold' ones
