I drive a 306 DTurbo cause I'm poor and it's cheap to run (ish!)... but should be in an Audi RS4 by the end of the year/early next year all things going well :)
Cheers,
its time for a OT thread
Go on fellas, tell what car you drive and why? I will begin with ours:
VW Touran 1,9 TDI DSG model year 2004.
It is a used taxi and had been driven 135000km by the time we bought it.
There are few diesels with autoshift that are not absurdly priced these days. This one was the right size for us, very well looked after (all taxis in Finland are) and was just the right mixture of being a recent model with enough mileage so that the price had lowered enough.
It is a comfortab le car. - You sit a bit higher so you can see well and the consumption is way below 6litres/100km which is astonishing for a car this size with automatic gear box (which had been just replaced before we got it). VW´s are seen as good cars in Scandinavia and they tend to keep their value well. I expect not to loose too much on this as we got it for a fairly good price due to the mileage which, for a diesel, aint much.
It has automatic AC separately adjustable for the front passengers which keep both I and SWMBO very happy on long travels :D

God!

ME,
2003 Vauxhall Astra 1.7cdti why (company car and it sucks)
1986 Ford escort Series 1 RS Turbo (currently in my garage getting a new brain fitted) why cause its excellent fun and is putting out about 220bhp FWD
SWMBO
2004 Landrover Freelander Serengeti 1.8i (good car but engine is crap) will be changed in the next 2 or so months :D why cause she always wanted one
1986 Left hand drive, Volkswagen Golf GTI Convertible (CC limited edition) her toy car. why she has always liked it, it came from a family friend 1 owner full service history ect
way to much cars :D
OK
Me, Mercedes Benz Avant Garde E class going to be changed later this year to a Chrysler 300C touring.

SAAB 9-3, a non-traditional BMW, Audi etc choice. Also it's a lot of car for the money !!
If any of you guys drives a Aston Martin I dont want to hear it. I swear I will come and knock you over, stealing the car and your watch collection. Also will try to persuade your SWMBO if she is at least half as good looking as the Aston
Me - an X Reg Mondeo, with the collected dings and scrapes. As I do a lot of visits to Haringey, Tottenham, Wood Green and Hackney when I am working for companies there it is as good as I want.
I suspect that my titanium racing bike is worth rather more.
SWMBO is into cars, and has 2 (yes 2) Audi TTs, one Roadster, one Coupe. Both virtually new, personalised plates. That stops her talking about my watch habit, as the monthly deprecation on those would normally exceed any spending I do!
Suppose I get close ;)Originally Posted by JCJM

Why? Because I like it. It's a 95 model, so affordable enough ;)
For work I've got a Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel, but SWMBO is using that one. I never liked it anyway :)
I suspect Martin also has several large black cars??Originally Posted by JCJM

Meets the above with a really low new-car purchase price. Has worked reliably for two years. So-so fuel economy compared to specs, but part of that problem sits behind the steering wheel
Instantly labels its male driver as "Really Boring Middle-age Family Dad", but that's just truth in advertising :(

A Landrover Discovery td5 Landmark. :)
Why? Many reasons...................
1. I do a lot of fishing in wild places you couldn't take a regular car to.
2. My elderly parents find it the easiest of cars to get into. Far easier than any saloon.
3. I had back/neck problems a while back. The posture in the Disco is far better than in any saloon. And that's the opinion of many ostopaths and physiotherapists, not just mine. :)
4. The all round vision is superior to a saloon.
5. It's solid and far safer than a saloon in an accident - though I hope I never have to call on that.
And finally, and most important of all...........
6. I like it. :) :)
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
I've 2, an Audi S3 (W plate) & an MGF (W plate) - used to have a V8 MGB Roadster until some kind soul 'wrote it off' whilst it was parked & left no details!
But will probably swap them both soon, for an A4 convertable & another MGB roadster or Lotus Elise. I love convertables & the top is always down (unless pouring with rain) regardless of time of day or year.
My better half loves driving the Audi .. as do I, but I just love top down driving, that may change if I ever grow up!

Well as an international man of mystery I have to have appropriate wheels - oh and I can't afford anything built since
For commuting purposes I also drive my wife's old car a 1989 Volvo 740, do those things ever wear out?
Michael.
Yes, is the short answer as well as a Toyota van and two Kia Sedona's (the Kia's are great value).Originally Posted by Andrzej

Five-year old Renault Twingo inherited from my girlfriend's mother. It's getting a bit small now that our daughter is growing, so might change this year.
Although I'm happy to spend loads on watches, motorbikes and other stuff, cars just don't interest me and I don't use them that much. Never paid more than the equivalent of GBP 2'000 for one and I doubt I'll spend more than double that for the next one.
Mini Cooper convertable.....'cos it;'s really good fun, especially in the sunshine

A new shape 2.0tdi Passat estate.
When it works it is a great car, very comfortable, loads of room and I mean loads.
However, it has been the worst car I have ever owned in terms of reliability.
Best car I have owned for reliability and smiles............................ most of you already know the answer but a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti with some extra toys :D . " years time and we are having another one - hurraahhh

I don't. Because I'm c*** at driving.[1] Instead, this, and it only has one gear in order to keep things simple for me. :)
[1] Nothing environmental. I try to produce as much methane as possible when on the road.

Car history (earliest to present):
VW Scirrocco 1.6 GLi (original - round headlights) - Green
Audi 80 1.8 GL - Light metallic blue
Volvo 760 GLE 3.0 in horrible metallic green
Ford Sierra Sapphire 2.0i GLSi - ('cos the Volvo blew up!) metallic blue
Rover 414 SLi - burgundy (bleuch!)
Nissan QX 3.0 SE - black (good car!)
Rover 623SLi - turquoise (bargain!)
Renault Laguna II 1.9DCi Estate - dark metallic blue (my only new car and the biggest mistake I ever made - NEVER buy a Renault!!)
Audi A4 1.8T Sport Quattro - dolphin grey (lovely - but the ex-wife got it as part of the divorce settlement)
Nissan Maxima QX 3.0SE+ - silver (replaced the Renault - excellent car)
And finally the Jag - in metallic quartz with black leather - yummy!
Don't know how long the piccie links will last - I've nicked them from all over!
Cheers
JCJM, glad you liked the photo.
I'm going to work now but drop me a line and I'll talk to you about the Jag over the weekend.

Michael
Nice Jag, Burak!
I've somehow managed to end up owning five cars, and there's only me and the wife! In the UK, I've a '95 Saab 900XS, and a Vauxhall Agila. Here in Qatar, a '93 Landrover Discovery V8 (for sale as we speak), a '83 Nissan Patrol 4.0, and this, which is sbrand new! (My first ever new car!)
Citroen Saxo soon to changed for a C1
Why, because I may retire soon and I want economy.
The C1 is really a Toyota so it should be well made and reliable.
I've had my fun in screw ball cars driving like a screwball so I feel more sedate these days.
I'm perfectly happy seeing all the shitheads screaming down the fast lane on my right and if they insist on driving that way with a hard on they can bleeding well get on with it  :D

Here is what we have in the stable.
Daily driver: 1995 Mercedes Benz E300D. Why because it is comfy and get great fuel mileage......30-35mpg. It now has 203K miles on it and is going strong. The body is rusting out but what do expect when the great state of Oho puts down tons of salt during the winter.
Road Trips: 1998 Mercedes Benz E320. Why because it is really really comfy on those long drives. It has 37K miles on it all highway......25-28mpg.
Heading for Lake Erie: 2001 GMC Sierra C3. Why because it can pull the boat to the lake. It is also very comfy and can haul a$$. It has 54K miles on it...well we won't go into the gas mileage on this one.
On the Lake fishing: 2004 Lund 2025. (hence the screen name 04lund2025)
On the very very rare sunny days here in Ohio......1990 Ford Mustang Convt 25th Aniv model. Less than 700 miles on it.

For me a Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 TS TI
Like it a lot 8)
A 2007 VW Golf 1.6 FSI Match
Why? - because I'm not really into cars!
It's not fast, so I'm not tempted to speed, and get caught by speed cameras :(
It's nice, but not posh, but not cheap or nasty, which is why I like Golf's
It's economical, as the price of petrol is a joke
You can fit the wife and 2 kids into it, without resorting to a people-carrier :o
It's pretty anonymous, and I won't cry when it gets the inevitable bumps and scrapes from London driving
It'll be easy to sell, at a decent price if I get bored with it
Oh, and it's got a thing you can plug your ipod into, and automatic lights and wipers, which means I can concentrate more on speed cameras and road humps
When I was choosing the car, I commented to the salesman, who was directing me to a GTI, that I had one 'when they were good' - he started talking bhp, until I pointed out that I meant before the advent of cameras and speed-humps, ABS, skid control, decent brakes and sat-nav - as my first car was a 1984 GTI Mark 1!
The salesman looked at me in awe (I'm a youthful 38) and said he was born in 1984..............................
Between midnight and 6am I drive this:

Just found pictures of all.
Here are the two Mercedes Benz's in our back yard:
The pickup:
The boat:
The convert:
Porsche Cayman S for me and a Volvo XC90 for Karen :)
The Volvo is an easy one, it's very practical, has 7 seats, entertainment for the kids in the back, reasonably frugal with the Diesel engine and pretty good to drive.
When I was a kid, cars were my thing, used to get Car magazine and memorise all the stats, 0-60, top speed etc. I was actually a Ferrari nut back then but as I got older it was Porsche that ignited my my passion, practical, solid and fantastic to drive, not just at the weekend but every day :)
The Cayman is my 4th Porsche and easily the best car i've ever driven, the handling/ride compromise is super, it is very well built, super quick and won't ever let me down when i'm out in the sticks. I have no need for the +2 rear seats a 911 has, the 2 boots being of more importance to me, and I happen to think the Cayman is a better drive too, of course i'd love a 997 GT3....maybe in a few year time :D
My previous cars:
1. Honda S2000 2000MY
2. Honda S2000 2002MY
3. Porsche Boxster S 986
4. Porsche 993 C4S
5. Honda S2000 2003MY
6. VW R32
7. Honda Integra Type R
8. VW R32 Milltek Sports Cats/Exhaust AmD remap
9. Volvo S60R
10. Porsche Boxster S 986 facelift

Hi all
I shuffle the family around in our Mazda 5:
...only in black.
Previous cars include:
Cortina Mk IV (Venetian red)
Allegro MK II (Gloss black)
Seat Ibiza Mk I (Yes the Porsche engine)
VW Polo (Alpine white)
As you can see I am not quite top of the food chain when it comes to cars...
...however we should have an O/T on push bikes next week.!
Thanks

Honda S2000 - I like fast cars which aren't a nightmare to own (e.g. TVR). Mine is tweaked a bit for track days too :). It is a raw car without the impracticalities of an Elise.
I also did my bike test last October and have a secondhand CBR600 in the garage - ten miles in four months of ownership....doh!
Skoda Felicia GLX estate
It was cheap
It holds my guns and loads of luggage
Who's going to steal this car - especially as it's white
T reg BMW 523SE with (now) about 167,000 miles on it (manual, not an auto).
Why? Reliable, comfy, fast and handles like something much, much smaller. I do quite a lot of miles, so I want to get out the other end feeling fresh, but I actually enjoy driving so wanted something that was good to drive (which it is). Really want to trade it for a 530d sometime soon, but not sure I'll have the cash to do it.
The wife has a R reg Nissan Primera SRi, which is basically bulletproof, a hatchback so good for carrying lots of stuff and actually very good to drive.

Skating away on the thin ice of a new day
Honda CR-V for me. Its comfortable, holds things i need it to, gets descent gas mileage, and I like it. Has 205k miles on it (US) in 4 years. Got a killer deal on it new as they were starting up those online Car sales sites at the time. The dealer showed me the sales paperwork. The online folks paid $2k more to the dealer than I paid for the car to them!?! Oh, and its reliable. :D
Whats in my driveway.
I like ragtops.
W reg BMW 320D SE Touring for me. 137,000 miles and counting.
Why?
My commute is 140 miles a day so I need good fuel economy and reliability.
I do a lot of mountain biking in the South West (although with my job not as much as I'd like) so I need an estate.
I'm still 17 at heart so I need some fun hence rear wheel drive.
There's no point in me getting anything newer as I just add a load of miles and suffer huge depreciation. As long as this one remains reliable I'll keep it.
Cheers
Gary
