    What would you get....

Its a long time since I was looking for a watch in this price range, so I would like you guys to help me a bit. My siter in law is looking for a watch for his partner. Since she knows well enough that I am one of those watch geeks she asked me for some advice and I want to be able not to embarass myself :)

I am looking for a watch in the price range of 180-250(tops!!) GBP. Size should be about 38-42mm. Not too heavy, preferably with sapphire crystal, WR100 and more, mechanical or quartz... The watch should be new or unmarked condition...

There is this lovely Hammilton Tonneau Jazzmaster in the SC which I have highly recommended to her but she still insists on more to chose from. In this price range, there are zillions of watches available. Hopefully some WIS insight will narrow this down a bit.

Thanks you in advance for any help :)

We need to know more about the prospective owner. If he's all about the look, and being in style, a good fashion watch might be the right bet here. Better than a WIS watch.

If he's a WIS, then there are different options.

And if he's uber sporty, or just into Jersey Shore, a G Shock will be brilliant and save a few quid to boot.

I see a potential in him to enjoy a WIS watch :) I would like to avoid fashion brands if possible and the watch should actually be something with a potential to last.. It shouldnt be a pure dress watch which I tried to indicate with the minnimum WR in my OP. It should be somehow cool though :)

If it was my £250 I would get the Smiths Everest,
or the bits to make a Seiko 55-fathom customisation.

It all depends on the new owners preference.
He would probably like to have an input into the decision making process for styling, dial colour, weight, size, bracelet or strap etc

I also like the kemner Tonneau shown here - just over £200 when they are available.

Rolands E-bay shop is empty at the moment.
No doubt he has been very busy with the TimeFactors recent releases.

Maybe something for the list http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...R36-Quick-Look - there are loads of derivatives all well within budget.

Have you considered a good Seiko or Citizen?

A mite small, but wears well: http://www.creationwatches.com/produ...b035-1856.html

Less dressy, but has always been a fave of mine: http://www.creationwatches.com/produ...watch-950.html

Plenty of great stuff from both Seiko and Citizen out there.

    There's also Orient: http://www.orient-watch.com/

18A or 18Q from our very own Time-Factors stable - very hard to beat for the price range.
It's just a matter of time...

Good news! The budget is extended to around 400 GBP so we do have some more playroom :)

Steinhart Ocean 1 will fit the bill.

Here are my old green and vintage GMT versions.

Both in mint condition bought from a forum for under your original budget.
