OK then. How about a PRS-MT with the same movement as the PRS-17C, but with a Tutima-esque case style with hidden chronograph pushers? You could have it as an optional lefty and/or an optional rotating bezel as seen on the Tutima Military Nato Chronograph TL and some Commando II versions. Obviously, there would be no constant seconds at 6 as shown in the picture below, but you get the idea. :)Originally Posted by swanbourne

I cant believe I've just read the whole post

I think it would look better to do away with the register at 6 for maximum clarity. :)Originally Posted by David@

I would order that one, I love the idea of a chronograph diver type.
My original idea wasfor a simple dial swap on the existing 17c with the movement slightly modded to remove the unused sub dials. Seems to have gone a bit OT
I and even had demanded a quote in Pforzheim of the cost
of that dial-print-swap etc..

Well I realise that.
Just throwing in some other ideas , for well, discussion :?
I love the original idea.
Sorry, I wasn't sure what post you were referring to. I think that Frank had a quote from a watchmaker for having the movements modified (if necessary) and new dials (minus the registers) in the event that Eddie wasn't going to get this project off the ground.Originally Posted by David@

Gents,
I may be sounding a bit thick here but what makes a watch a mission timer????? I have seen numerous watches on the net named mission timers and they all have different mechanical set ups, ie some have crown on the left, some on the right, some had Hr, min and centre second hands only, they had different style hands, one had a second hand at 6, some had 2 centre second hands.
See, now you know why I am confused.
Steve
I asked that several pages ago but no-one seemed able to answer. The arrow head on the 17C chrono minute counter seems to do the job very nicely.

It can mean a few things, but most people would agree that it refers to a chronograph with a minute register that has most, if not all of the other registers removed for the purposes of readability. The best examples of this are the Sinn EZM-1 and the Tutima Commando II. Both of these watches have an eminently readable central minute register resulting from the now discontinued Lemania 5100 movement (the Tutima also retains the hour totaliser at 6). The idea of the PRS-17 MT is to recreate this sort of setup using a quartz ETA 251.262 movement (also has a central minute totaliser) with extraneous registers removed for clarity.Originally Posted by Revolvingjones
A crown on the left is useful for lefties who wear the watch on their right wrist or where the crown and pushers are less likely to get caught up in nets etc when worn on the left wrist.
Of course, a Mission Timer can be created with the Valjoux 7750 movement by removing the running seconds and chronograph hour register. However, the chronograph minute register at 12 (or 6 if you flip it over as a lefty ala Sinn U1000) is not as readable as a a central minute totaliser.
The other option is to use a modular mechanical chronograph movement that has a central minute totaliser. The Dubois Depraz chronograph 2073 module can be piggy-backed onto an ETA 2892 to achieve this configuration. This movement is used by Sinn for their 142 II and by Tag Heuer for their Aquagraph. I've also seen a Nivrel chronograph with this movement. Apart from concerns about the reliability of modular chronograph movements, Eddie confirmed that this movement would be too expensive.
This is a great Idea. I am in love with the stark simplicity of the EZM1 and Commando II.
No sub dials.
1-12 bezel

Which movements would fit? The one from the 17C?

You know you should. 8)Originally Posted by swanbourne

Why not?
Would be great for me!The Precista homages do not pretend to be original but they do have the look and feel
of the originals, almost always with superior specification, construction and materials.
Frank
Agreed. EZM case is fine. The dial and hands would be different as they would be derived from the PRS-17C. Thus, it would be a Precista, not a Sinn "homage".Originally Posted by walkuere
Wasn't the original PRS-17/17-C case used by Tutima (and Sinn?) as well as Precista back in the late 1980s? Thus, I don't see any problem with a modern Precista using the same case as a Sinn.
The lugs on the EZM case are quite stubby, perhaps they should be a touch longer.

Maybe so, but I don't have an issue with them on my EZM-1 and EZM-3, or the EZM-2 for that matter. However, the latter may have a different case anyway.Originally Posted by swanbourne
I don't think the EZM case was a Sinn design, it's basically a reversed 103 case.
I had one of the very early 103's, Swiss made but Sinn branded, I think this was from the time when Sinn was having watches made to his design but using some generic cases etc. I might be wrong :?
Thanks for the kind words,
I joined this forum for this watch alone. I own a Commando II and love it. I have eyed the 17c for some time but felt it was not tactical, in a way more dressy... I would hope TF would look at the practical tactical watch buyers and give them one. TF has had their divers, flyboy and mil watches... Lets throw one at some operators and call it good. I'll even sign on as a technical expert for one. (wink ....)
As I said...
PVD
Lefty
1-12 bezel (dual purpose GMT and Hour timer when aligned with the hour hand and chrono's are activating)
MAX LUME
Mine....
Remove the 12 hr counter and add the 12 bezel and it is still as functional and simple... keep the bright high contrast yellow.. it is interesting and unique...
Lets keep it going...
Bill
The Tutima Commando II is a great watch and I have one too. I actually prefer the very rare (if not one-off) version that used the case with the bidirectional bezel as used for the Tutima 750 TL. I believe that a forum member owns one (and that Sanjay used to own it).Originally Posted by ranger425

Its a cheap and easy version I would believe...
1. New dial
2. Source some model specific hands...
3. PROFIT
Alright, new tactic, I DARE ANYONE AT TIMEFACTORS TO MAKE SUCH AN IMPOSSIBLE AND COMPLICATED TIMEPIECE!!!
I DARE THEE !!!!!!1111!!!1!

I've just bought a Revue Thommen Lemania 5100 auto, to go with my Revue Thommen Quartz with the same 251.262 movement as in the 17-C. In both cases a lot of the appeal lies in the legibility afforded by centre sweep minute hands. IMO the quartz is a very acceptable substitute for the auto, especially since the quartz is also a very robust movement. I'd be very happy with an homage to a classic Lemania 5100 watch; I still want a permanent second hand, though...

PRS66
Id like a DC66 case, quartz, central seconds and minutes, lumibrite lume and countdown bezel.
That's not the same, the idea for this was that it would be around the same price as the PRS17C (on which the design was based in the misguided hope that it would enable it to be produced quickly  )Originally Posted by Lardy
