My eldest daughter is getting more IT literate and we're at the point where we think we need to put on some controls about what she can see/search for. Can someone tell me the easiest way to do this? Does Microsoft have software built into most laptops? What about iPads?
All help would be gratefully received.

Talktalk also have parental controls. Works quite well too!
She's 8. I just don't want her to 'stumble' across anything unsuitable. We're with Sky.
I have setup parental control on our laptop for my daughter, used the default one provided with Windows 7, works great, just had to setup a new user account for her.
I now get a weekly report of her online activities, which reassuringly is 100% cbeebies games website!
Of course we are always around when she is online, but i was keen to have another layer of protection as you are only ever one click away from something you would not like your kids to see when online...
Interested to hear about the responses concerning Ipads as I have not got around tomsorting that out!
You can add words that are blocked to the router, that way no matter which device you're using, all will be blocked the same. Will work much faster than any software with the added benefit of having to set it only once for all the devices connected to the router (although you'll have to disable the restriction if you want to access the said sites ).
I use Open DNS. Not perfect but once programmed into the router it works on every device. Comes FOC with some Netgear routers and is easy to use.
