    New Vostok

    This arrived today

I thought that it was about time I bought a new Vostok - I see that prices have gone up since I bought my first new one about 20 years ago, mind you still good value IMO

    An Amphibia 420334

I have a real weakness for these things - dont like bracelets though so will be fitting a rubber strap when I get round to it

Congratulations. I think I had exactly the same model but hadn't really taken in the gold facets on the dial and took an instant dislike to it. I gave it to a mate who still wears it; in fact he gets more comments on that watch than any other.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Congrats! Wear it in good health! A classic vostok amphibian choice. Personally I always prefer these on leather better than the vostok bracelet

    Thanks

    I bought it from eBay

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2713103553...84.m1497.l2649

I cant stand the feel of bracelets and have put leather straps on all of my watches that came with them, however a rubber variant seemed to suit the Amphibia better. It has a nice soft feel and is very comfortable - more so than the Seiko one on my 7002

One of my favourite Amphibians. Have seen this on an olive NATO, and it really rocks!

Not sure as to whether it really suits this very comfy RAF pattern Nato from Eddie - looks a bit too fussy perhaps?

I think that I prefer it on this plain black Nato (a Phoenix from Monkey Swag)

NATO straps never suit Vostoks. It's just wrong. Personally I think they look best on a heavy duty nylon.

And why is that a RAF strap?

...oh and re your query its sold as an RAF pattern one on the TF website - I would have linked to a screenshot to illustrate this but the relevant part is website is temporarily off line

<grin> I think Amfibias and Komandirskies look great on NATOs, despite the somewhat opposing history. I've got a nice blue dial Amfibia on a blue NATO that looks great (or at least I think it looks great). ;-)

    I want one!

Well! Emotions apart, where can I buy a Vostok in UK?
Ended on this website http://www.vostok-europe.com/ and
    http://www.vostok-watches.co.uk/ Are they legit?

They're both Vostok-Europe retailers, not Vostok. Personally I'd buy direct from Russia (I have done many times with no problems). Both Meranom http://www.meranom.com/ and Zenitar on ebay are well respected sellers.
If buying from Russia worries you, try http://www.vostok-uhren.de/ in Germany.

    Good man

Everyone should have at least one!

There used to be a UK dealer - cant remember his name, bought my first Vostok from him - think he dropped of the radar in the early 2000's

I have bought 4 to date from the German supplier and they have all arrived quickly with good communication via email etc

I think it looks pretty good on that black NATO. Leather looks better though

This is a UK dealer: http://www.russia4u.co.uk/index.php.

He also sells Orient but with a very limited range.

The Bonetto Cinturini diver that I have just fitted to my Seiko is a revelation as regards comfort - I have now ordered an 18mm from the States, it will be interesting to see what how it wears on the Amphibia

Try one of these, inkeeping with the Russian theme.

It all started for me with the old 'Sub Commander' I bought years ago - think it was something like £20 new!
There are many knowledgeable people on here re answering your questions!

In the run up to Christmas and to ease the cash flow situation I sold this particular Amphibia via SC. However as the bank balance stabilised I had the good fortune to be able to buy it back!

I am wearing it as I type this - I quite like it on this sand Milstrap

    I do like an Amphibia

However, it's relatively chunky, and IMO the 18mm lug width looks too narrow,

I think a notched 20mm suits the proportions much better - how about a notched NATO :

It feels and looks fine on an 18mm strap to me

Would be interested to see it on a notched wider one though

A new Milstrap from Germany arrived this morning - a Maratac copy and very comfy with a nylon keeper instead of the usual hardwear. I like these sandy colour ones as they seem to go with the gold markers on the face quite well

I am replacing all of my Natos with this kind of strap

Being as I was ordering a Di Modell waterproof leather Rallye strap for my Seiko I thought that I would also try one on this. It seems to work quite well.

That's just desperate marketing. Since when were Soviet or Russian colours "black, cream, blue & red"?
