To wear Superdry?
I was in Superdry in Cardiff last week, and tried on a really nice leather jacket. Looking around the store though was mostly youngsters shopping.
Am I too old for Superdry at 43?
I am 45 in January and have just bought these.
Just buy what your comfortable with.Superdry products are good value and comfortable. S..T that statement sounds like I am 45 FFS!
This entirely depends on the age of your wife/gf/bf
I should be ok then, she's 30 :-)
Never even heard of Superdry, guess I'm definitely too old!
"I looked with pity not untinged with scorn upon these trivial-minded passers-by"
Their target market is something like 15-18 iirc....
I'm probably too young not to be in the know, but where has the Superdry hype come from and what's so great about them? Are they the new Bench.?
Radio 4 did a piece on the founder some time ago and apparently he started off running a market stall in Reading (Google seems to suggest Cheltenham but that's just a detail as neither location bears much resemblance to Paris, Milan or Tokyo from where I'm sitting). I have a grudging admiration for somebody who can craft a fake brand and build a fortune from such slender beginnings but.....
Cutting edge Japanese design my @rse.

In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
I'm 53 and refrained so far from Superdry products mainly jackets. The logo on the shoulder is a kids thing to me, they do look decent quality though. The tee shirts however I'm seriously considering buying.
I have only ever worn Adidas Originals trainers and continue to do so, along with the ubiquitous Lacoste polo I'm still dressing as in in my casual years.
I havent worn trainers since 1979 and have no clue what 'Superdry' is - sounds suspiciously like a form of male incontinence pad to me
Only children and imbeciles should wear stuff with the label on the outside.
So that cancels out 99% of clothing on the market then. It's not a label, it's their logo.
For reference it's the Tarpit Flight Jacket.
I can't link a photo to it, But it hardly looks Chavy and childish to me.
My son is 24 - he had Superdry everything (almost) when he was a student - he has now grown out of it (not literally)
He still wears it a bit but is no longer in the buying mode
I suspect we are all too old for Superdry !
Every time I try any superdry stuff it seem to be made for tiny kids xxl in very snug
Theres a simple test that is almost infallible on this subject: if you are in at least as good shape as when you were 21 you may enter such clothing shops.
Now, once inside do the teenage girls glance at you sideways thinking "whats that old perve doing in here?". If so leave and do not come back. If they are thinking "hey isn't that hugh jackman?" you may now purchase such items as your heart desires.
Alternatively just go shopping at Sunspel.
I think with SuperDry it's more of a question of are you too fat....you tend to need to be built like a pipecleaner to wear the stuff.
Generally though,i say wear what's comfortable. I wear a lot of surf brands...always have and continue to do so....i am certainly not built like a surf dude
Ok, all this bashing has been fair i guess because i wasn't specific enough. I WOULD NOT wear an item of clothing from there with superdry splashed all over it. There is only the small logo on the arm of the jacket i tried on which seemed discrete enough to me.
I think it looks ok, and i'm a fairly slim 12 stone.

It's just a leather jacket. Don't see where age comes into it. If you like it, buy it. Life's way too short to worry about what anyone else thinks of your clothes anyway.
Remember the demographic of those you are asking fashion advice from!
This is one of those classic "If you have to ask, you're too old" questions.
It's also one of those "I'm an older man with a younger girlfriend. Am I trying too hard?" questions.
Disclaimer: If Dunn & Co were still on the High St., I'd be shopping there.

Doesn't negate the "Am I trying too hard?" bit in my (tongue in cheek) opinion.

Ahh, if you knew my wife, you would also know she doesn't give a sh*t what i wear.
She thinks i'm bonkers drooling over expensive watches.
Well, from my short time (and reading the last months posts) here I expect 90% of members are between 40-60,have a beard and a beer belly,so maybe not the place to ask.
Try here http://www.fuk.co.uk/ for some ridicule from 20-something hipsters who think nothing of spending £400 on a jumper and Niche brands no one has heard of.
(tho they do have a watch thread, sadly 99% rolex driven).
Not a big fan of anything with a big logo on,though for a Superdry jacket that model is a big more understated than most of the range.Cant see it being around in 5 years time, and the sizing is really small.
As for what and wear to buy,it all depends on what your can get away with,If you look more Like Hugh Jackman than Jonny Vegas (3 years younger) go for it
I suspect that having never heard of Hugh Jackman I may have to rethink buying a Superdry tee shirt.
Just bought a Gstar raw jacket today . I am 42 but luckily I am incredibly cool
I turned 50 at the weekend and have a couple of T-Shirts and a hoodie from there, the quality of the cotton is excellent. Their prices are also very good.
I don't believe in the "too old for......." adage. It's more about what it looks like on you and as long as you can be honest in your assessment of what you look like then that's more honest. If you try to hang on to your youth then you risk looking daft.
I know the brand... and I'm glad my kids have clothing allowance and a small job*) every Saturday in the supermarket! That way I'm not mad as hell when I have to pull my wallet for an expensive item from S'dry.
( *) I am sure there's a proper word in English for youngsters with a part time job on Saturdays and holidays, I simply don't know the word for it)
Menno
I wouldn't worry about it - just wear what you want. How companies position themselves and who actually buys them are usually very different. That's the difference between target and actual.
Just buy it, enjoy it and accept you look cool.
Yes,you need to be buying your clothes at the beige and brown shop at 43.
I have to say guys, there have been some pretty amusing comments made. Fair play to you all :-)
Very chav, avoid !!!
Over 25 is pushing it.
It's not what you wear, but the way you wear it. Regardless of age, some people suit certain styles, others don't. Wear what you like, what's comfortable and what you feel happy in... don't worry about other peoples opinions, they don't know you.
