Having five pairs of Trickers i'm in a position to compare the TXmax(shop) offerings to Trickers own shop bought items.

Have you compared the quality between the shoes ? or just looked at pictures.

TK Maxx Trickers appear to be ex-display stock with numerous handling/storage marks...

...at least the ones I shelled out £150 on were. Bought online & returned. I later saw the same pair (recognised marks on the welt) with even more damage in a local store for £65. I still wouldn't have bought them.

This is interesting. I have several pairs too and ordered a pair of Stow in Espresso from TK Maxx online which are absolutely perfect and with no discernible difference from my other pairs in terms of fit, finish and quality.

I was also in the High Street Kensington branch last week and they had several pairs - some were obviously "tried on" but none that I looked at were obvious seconds or cheaply made. It sounds like there are variable versions out there and it's pot luck as to what you get!

I have a bit of a thing for shoes and realise I haven’t posted in this thread before. Here are some of mine when I had a cleaning session a while ago - some of them I’ve had many years and they’re like slippers...

Enjoying a cup of coffee. I cannot work out with this pair how to match the polish? Should I stick to neutral?

I'd go with black. I have a pair of oxblood loafers and they are much improved, in view.

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

If you don't want to spend too much look at Loake 1660 collection " Ashby" at about £205.

No Loake’s are made in Italy, plus Loake never put the “made in” under the tongue.
1880 & Shoemaker are made in Kettering, Northampton. L1 & Design for the most part made in India although some are uk. Boat shoes, driving shoes & desert boots made in Portugal, same factory as Russel & Bromley & Timberland.

Shoemaker range made in Kettering same as 1880.

Speaking of where and how - are some Grenson glued together and just made to appear as if they are stitched?

A friend said that he has a pair and the bottoms started to come off?

Welted construction and glued/bonded soles aren’t necessarily incompatible - think Dr Martens or Solovair.

Ah yes! He said he had them a few weeks and they started flapping.

In other news where is my style adviser Kirk? I like the look of these and want the final world off my guru.

Do you find your shoelaces come undone sometimes? In the picture the right hand knot and maybe the left look to be tied in a granny knot which is less secure than a symmetrically balanced double loop reef knot. The shoelace knot should sit across the shoe, not lie in line with the leg.

    https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/grannyknot.htm

PS don't start looking at people's shoelace knots, it will drive you mad and people will think your weird if you correct them.

Yes - I am terrible with knots, I can do it the other way, I just did them up quickly for a shot when taking them out of the box. Interestingly the shoe bags have pulls that are actually brown laces so you can have brown laces rather than white...

I want to remove all the old polish from a few pairs of old shoes over christmas - I've seen mixed messages on using acetone - the best way or something else?

I’d avoid using acetone, I imagine it would dry the leather quite easily (well I’m talking about lab grade acetone, not sure about the nail polish remover type). Happy to be corrected if someone has done this!

What about saddle soap instead? I think Saphir do a product for removing polish too.

  27. #1277
I'm thinking I would like to strip a pair too. I think that renomat is the proper stuff.

Grenson sale now up, though it would help if you had daintier-sized feet (replacement Archies for me, in a grown-up 9.5).

I get confused with the different ranges - which are the ones made here and which ones are made in India?

Limited sizes in the sale of Grenson and Redwing is its any interest to someone.
Also Loake boots online for $99 online at TKMaxx

Slightly cheaper than the Grenson official site and free del.

From one of your previous heads up, I picked up a pair of Loake Chester’s with dainite sole for £100 from Colleen & Clare a couple of years ago - they are ageing nicely thanks.

I’m a UK size 7, and having children’s feet always helps with the sale bargains.

Weather getting a bit nicer, out go the winter boots and time to sort out something smarter.

Wandered into a shop looking at some brogues on sale, ended up buying these at full retail because they were exactly what I was after. Into the bin with the old pair that I've had for far too long and in with a nice pair of Cheaneys.
