Got some off eBay, discounted if you buy in bulk, I don't remember the seller name I'm afraid but easy to search for.

German Ebay seller leo33eppendorf sells some great ones (Premium range). Discounts available if you buy several e.g. £62 for 4 pairs, plus £7 p&p.

Contact the ebayer seller and ask if he has any seconds at £14.99, he usually does.

I felt bored today and decided to colour up my Loake Chester shoes.

    this is how it started:

and now I am thinking should I go over whole shoe or leave as it is now.

Did you just use a darker polish over the tan?

Chester's are my fav's and the colour is great. I switch between Loakes neutral and light tan to keep them really light tan.
Jury out on the colour, perhaps I should have brought the pair on SC then I could have given this a go.

I find that Loakes, whilst not the very best, are the best bang for buck buy that you can make.

Easy to break in and then very comfortable to walk around the streets of London.

Agreed; as long as you avoid the crappy L1 models, Loakes are a solid buy

For those looking for something hand-welted, Vass offers good value for money considering their top quality, but they're not easily available outside of Hungary.

+1 Mick and will be spending Saturday wandering town in mine. Kirsten Goss in Kensington to treat wifey to some jewellery, lunch in Scott's and finish up in Vertigo 42 before train home.

Some good deals on Cheaney shoes / boots on Zalando. (I've never used them so cannot vouch for the website).

I have just ordered a pair of Cheaney Newports from Zalando, got £10 off for registering so the shoes cost £151 delivered and just over £10 via quidco.

I'll let you know if all ok once received.

I've just bought a pair of those in black with the leather sole. Delighted with them - I tried on similar from the likes of Tricker, Cheaney, Barkers, C&J, etc and none of them were quite right (although the C&J's were superb quality), so I took a punt on the Alfred Sargents from Pediwear - and I'm over the moon with them.

I don't know if it was a special offer or something, but Pediwear threw in a pair of the proper Alfred Sargent shoe tree's correct for the boot too - which was nice.

Here's someone else pics of the same boots:

I just ordered some Cheaney Cambridge, £130 after the UKBANKAF discount, plus Quidco too. Complete bargain! Which is good as I managed to rip a hole in the sole of my Jackie III boots the other day when drunk, oops!

I bought a pair of Church's Tewksbury and a pair Chetwynd last week. They are so nice I can't bring myself to wear them in this weather. Pictures to follow shortly. I think I am set now for Brogues for a long time unless I see a nice pair of boots. Also picked up a few Church's shoe trees.

Oh dear! Zalando delivered the wrong shoes, which I sent back. They have offered a refund but given that I ordered the shoes in their sale I would prefer them to send me the shoes I ordered. When I asked for the correct shoes to be sent I was told that "we have no process by which to offer an exchange"! They may as well say "yes we made a mistake but tough luck buddy, we can't be bothered to sort it out because we don't give a fig about our customers and their rights".

Anyone else had similar experiences with Zalando? Any suggestions about how I can help them see the error of their ways?

I got my Cambridges today. Took a week to arrive but they emailed me a £10 off voucher to apologise. (But it seems quite easy to get a £10 off voucher from them, another one came in the box!)

I much prefer the Fenchurchs to the Moorgates so count yourself lucky! :)

I'm rather looking forward to these bad boys from Jeffery West to arrive (thanks, Steve). Bea had the nerve to suggest I already have something similar, damn cheek

Wouldn't have minded so much, but I already own a pair of Fenchurchs!

OK, I win the brogue bargain of the day award.

I was shopping in Bentalls Kingston and noticed a pair of Oliver Sweeney Wren's in the sale (full leather sole, Goodyear welted). They were down to a not unreasonable £165, from £255.

When the shop assistant brought the second shoe out it was a little darker, haven't not been on the shoe rack for the last few months, and one shoe had a tiny mark on (which didn't bother me). Anyway, I went into haggle overdrive and I picked them up for £115 (cheaper than an Oliver Sweeney Gold service). A bit of shoe cream easily sorted them out. What beauties they are!

Thanks very pleased with them. According to the Oliver Sweeney website the factory is near Ancona, Italy.

Wore these with jeans today, and really like them a lot... Jeffery West.

Edit - just saw that I already mentioned them above, after I picked them up on here from Steve.

This may not be the right thread to ask this but where is the best place to buy some good quality brogues from? I'm Birmingham based...just wondering if there are better places than the usual high street outlets. Also, how much do you need to spend?

You need to lose those pink laces and get some black polish in those welts Tony, or else I will have to post in the "Signs you may be a Wa*&er" thread. ;-)

I'm sure there'd be plenty of other signs to worry about, so I may as well leave them as they are, Bob ;)

There is a Crockett & Jones shop in Birmingham next to the cathedral in the centre. Shoes start at around £320. If that is too much, Loake Chesters shown already in this thread are around £200, available from Debenhams (no half sizes though) and many other stores (John Lewis usually).

Nice pair of (very well) discounted Sweeney brogues in the Schuh sale.

    http://www.schuh.co.uk/oliver-sweene...on/3109206220/

edit : whoops, size 7 only - but Sweeney's do come up a little large.

I got a pair in Sweeneys sale for £129. You are right about sizes- I usually take an 8 but with Sweeneys it's a 7.

I think that if one were to apply the universally accepted definition of "pair", that's a fail.

Do you find that people "notice" you more when you're wearing them?

    Relevant discounts...

Loake Wharfdale are half price at Debenhams at the moment (but only size 8 left, which is useless for me!)

Also, here is a 25% off voucher code for Herring Shoes - HSSUB25 (it worked for me, but I can't guarantee if it will work for anyone else).

Don't know if this is of any use to anyone (it may be if there are any edinburgh based brogue wearers) but mostyn Mckenzie in Ocean terminal have just taken over selling Loake seconds. All half price and under.
I picked up some fisher boots for winter for 110 down from 225.
Still can't work out what's second about them. There's a scuff on the top of one about 2 cm long so I'm guessing thats it. fine by me if they want to knock 115 off over it. :-)

Debenhams have a sale on right now with up to 50% ( even Loaks I think) use VH62 today only for another 10%
Some brown brogues by Loaks at £150 from £215 makes them £135
