Recent trip to the coast with Gilly, who has grown into a great sensitive dog. Lots of fun to have around.

That's good! Same here. Although, my Rottweiler has its own alarm clock. And that doesn't go off at 7AM... 7:30, 8AM is more likely.

So, you are a 'ferocious Rottweiler' only to find out that you've been kicked off your dog mattress by a Maine Coon...

On a more serious note: wolves. I wrote about them before. We're living in an area where wolves are sighted every day and they kill sheep etc. Big thing here in the this country. But on a micro-level: my neighbour's meadow is next to the western forest line of my grounds. His horses were very nervous last Monday. And the only thing that he could figure out, why the horses were so nervous, was... the near-presence of a wolf. That would be a 'first': most sightings were early in the morning, around dawn or late in the evening, in the dark; when they're spotted in the headlights of cars.

We were not at home at that time and Elvis was in the house. It worries me what will happen when a wolf and the Rottweiler have an 'encounter'. The 50 kg Rottweiler is very protective on his own grounds, but he is no match for a wolf.

Walking the dog late in the evening has become an adventure, I tell you.

Menno, you might want to fit Elvis with a wolf collar whenever he is outside, with you or on his own. Those collars protected dogs defending flocks against wolves, if they worked then they'd work now.

Good shout. Presumably a safe but quickly and one-handedly deployable knife would also be useful.

    Lovely mini Schnauzer?

We have our Middle Schnauzer for 4 weeks now. She is mental. Hard to tame. She can be very sweet but if she doesnt get enough sleep she’s the devil.

    Pablo is a cockerpoo.

"Apparently", or so I was told, there are different types of cockerpoos? He is, if I recall rightly! An F1 or something...whatever! He is just a nutty dog full of life! He isn't big, just about 11kg, but full of life!

F1 is a cross between purebred poodle purebred cocker spaniel

F1B is a cross between purebred and F1

    F2 is a cross between F1 and F1

Here’s Pippa doing what she does best.
At nearly 14 years old you can’t blame her.
Though she has just reminded me that she needs to go out. If you get my drift!!!

    Cheers for that!

He is a lovely dog, so the F1 and F2 etc, isn't important ! (I "think!" I was told when we were buying him , he was an F2?..not 100% though!). Ive seen a fair few cockerpoos whilst out walking, lots of different sizes and colours etc. Pablo is a great dog, dopey and full of life!

Bertie, our MS, has just turned nine.
He's definitely started to slow down but still enjoys having a crack at catching one of the squirrels or pigeons frequenting our back garden.
He's been an absolutely brilliant little dog, quite the character, stubborn as heck!

Harley is my daughters and her partners dog and is a working/show cocker mix.
He's a complete nut job, but absolutely the most handsome boy, plus he is extremely affectionate. When he actually stops doing 100mph laps of the garden/park/field/whatever!
Here they are on squirrel watch - Bertie is due a groom in this photo.

And making sure the narrow boats are all in order.

He's actually a mini schnauzer but one of the largest we've seen.
When we've met a standard schnauzer you can actually tell the difference.
We've also met a few giant schnauzers, absolutely love them but they aren't called 'giant' for nothing!

I believe there’s differences with what size of Poodle as well.
Toy, Miniature and Standard over a Spaniel would produce three very different sized dogs.

    One for the dog geneticists,

We used to call two dogs that weren’t the same make, Mongrels…

    Newfypoo… wtf
I imagine that was an interesting coupling

The Kennel Club recognises 223 breeds of dog.
That’s nearly 50,000 different combinations of “Mongrel”

Some sources say over 400 breeds (160,000)

Thank you, and yes they can be.
We're pretty lucky with Bertie, he doesn't bark at the postman or anything like that and is pretty quiet at home.
When out and about he seems to have specific things to trigger a good barking session.
Kites being flown, hates them, people kicking a ball around, bark bark bark!
    Funny little fella!

Our Schnauzer is only yappy to everyone coming up on our driveway.

And she doesn’t trust people all dressed in black.

It’s just over a year ago since we had to say goodbye to our last little dog, and we’ve definitely missed having one around the place…

Let me introduce Eddy😎. He’s a cross between a chihuahua and a hairless Chinese crested, and will be coming to live with us next Friday.

A bench is a good thing for a dog. Even my big Rottweiler walks over to his bench when he's tired. The bench is his 'happy place'. Every time he goes to the bench or is put in the bench by me, he gets a treat. Every time, no exception. In his mind: "bench = treat!"

Friends have real show winner Ridgeback. A beautiful dog. The dog grew up in a family with small children. The Ridgeback had a bench as well. Their golden rule: "Do not disturb the dog when he's in his bench (with the door open). Dog want some peace and quietness as well!"

    We call them crates Menno,
Non dog people think it’s a cage.

We have a big one for the labs and a small one for the bulldog,
Tho you often find a lab curled up in the bulldog bed.

Just what they like. My first three dogs slept in the bench. My new schnauzer doesn’t like it. She has a dog ren to sleep in. It’s a space made of fences.
