I can't express how much I love my dogs. My 2 are turning 5 and 10 this week. And I've just had my first child, he's nearly 4 weeks.

My dogs spend most of their time with my ex, and this week is the first time in a while I'll get the dogs for more than a weekend evening - the ex is abroad.

I was cuddling Nugget, the 10 year old, and it genuinely made me cry to think my son won't get to really enjoy Nugget. I know he's got a few years in him yet, but baby Louie won't have many years where he'll remember Nugget.

    From their morning walk yesterday...

Gets me every time I think of it. Makes you realize how much you love your good boy / girl. My good boy has just turned 7, and I'm already starting to prepare myself.

I specifically used that one for Poppy as it really was her mantra.
She loved her life, loved working and adored me…

Elvis after chasing butterflies. With his best (girl)friend Maine Coon Pebbles close-by.

They’re always together. With only one rule: she has to keep a distance between herself and Elvis’’ food bowl. Still, he ‘tells’ her that in a friendly way. No growling or barking.

He has become a stable, well-mannered Rottweiler.

This is our new family addition; an 8 week old male Portuguese Water Dog. We picked him yesterday and he is settling in very well. It’s my first dog and my wife’s first puppy, so lots of learning to do!

Sorry for your loss but what a great age and bet he loved every minute of it. Reminds me of my bonkers lab Loki, 4 years old this month. This is his "it's my tea time dad" face:

    And "time to play"

Thank you; yes he is! I’m quite smitten to be honest.

I’m spending a lot of time with him and we definitely have a bond. The rest of the family are finding it tougher as he is quite nippy and likes to chase, play and then try to nibble my kids who are 3 & 8. They are getting more confident with him, which is what he needs from them.

We have a dog trainer coming tomorrow so that’s one of the things I hope she can help with, because otherwise he’s perfect.

Winnie, quite discombobulated after coming home still groggy from being spayed.

When she’s not standing, stooped over and staring into space like an old hippy that over indulged in the 60’s, she’s sleeping.

Now we just have to try and keep her calm for a couple of weeks!

Dorcas (6) and Alice (4) had spent their entire lives penned inside a disused shed, along with eight other dogs. They were all covered in excreta and urine and malnourished. Three of the dogs were too ill to survive and the rest were taken into a rescue centre for treatment.

Dorcas on arrival at the rescue centre:

    Alice :

Knowing of our past work with other 'difficult' rescue dogs the centre contacted us to see if we would re-home the two of them together as during their two month stay there they’d formed a strong bond with each other.
Furthermore, the rescue centre told us that Dorcas and Alice had some deep-seated issues due to their previous lives and would need a lot of time and effort spent with them in order to get them back to some sort of normality.

At that time we had only recently lost our previous two rescue dogs who had died in quick succession and we had decided to have a break before taking on just one dog. Nevertheless, we agreed to meet with the two girls and thereafter in March last year they arrived. Life went into a complete whirlwind for the following months, despite their ages they were best described mentally untrained puppies but with the complication of being fearful of just about everything. They’d only allow my wife to feed them (I couldn't get anywhere near) but wouldn’t engage in any other interaction. All the normal developments you’d expect of dogs at home was non-existent. House-training took many months, any noise would scare them and visitors were a definite no-go.
To say they were a challenge was a complete understatement and at times we worried that they’d never develop, but slowly things started to improve.

Two months in, Alice approaches my wife for the first time (I had to wait a further month):

Month 4 and Dorcas learns to finally 'trust' a tennis ball:

I could bore everyone with the list of 'breakthrough' days but here they are now:

It’s surely only a matter of time!

Our Cocker, Jasper, is helping himself to the strawberries at the moment, wondered why they didn’t seem to be producing much fruit…

Eli the Whippet. He’ll be 9 in November. Been mine since he was 18 months old. Up to that point he’d lived on a farm in Friskney, Lincolnshire.

Just as our late retriever , Ellie , was named after the Lotua Eilse , I thought i was going to get for my birthday , so was our new addition , a border collie pup , Mia, named after the Americanised answer to every "What Car" thread on this forum
