With work commitments, we can't have a dog as we're both out of the house from early til late each day. I love seeing your pups and hounds on this post though, one day I hope I can post some of my own.

Some people are idiots. I love EBTs. Rufus (my Bernese) is my first non Rottie and also my first non rescue dog. Ive always tried to rescue in the past but I had a year off in rural France and it seemed the perfect time to get a puppy and give him all the input a young pup needs to grow into a well socialised, rounded dog.

    But I digress.

Some people are idiots. Rottweilers arent to everyones taste but Ive rescued 4 over the years and apart from one (the smallest and the only bitch I rescued) the others were all such softies. Great with kids, other dogs and even cats. Had one called Luther who was so chilled we got him qualified as a Pets as Therapy dog.

During his assessment (where they do things like open an umbrella, make loud noises etc) he walked into the room, gave the lady doing the assessment a quick lick on the face, laid down and fell immediately asleep, snoring away.

She was quick to point out that he would have to be awake for the assessment.

Theres a lot of doggie racism out there. Of course some breeds have certain traits that are easy to amplify in the wrong hands (or in the right hands if they being used as military / protection dogs) but I very much believe there are no bad dogs. Just bad owners.

Agree with this. I feel sorry for dogs who have owners who let them down.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Yes, we had a 60+ kg rottweiler at home when I was a teenager. My parents lived at the outskirts of a little village near the German border. I'm pretty sure that this monstrously big rottweiler saved us from a few burglaries. In the house, it was a softy and on hot days, he strolled out through the garden, to the meadow that was beyond the garden. There he would lay down where the cows were: in the shadow. Totally relaxed.

However, when there was someone at the door, he was always between my mother and the person at the door. When my dad or I opened the front door, he was behind us. No way that he would allow a stranger to touch my mother. It was my mother's baby.

Yeah. They do have a natural guarding instinct for sure. And most a high prey drive too.

My boy Woody had the BEST bark. Any burglars would definitely pick another house.

He was wicked but sadly passed away out of the blue. Cancer got him. Hed had a growth for months but he never let on. Carried on chasing his ball and full of energy right up until the last day.

My wife took my favourite ever picture of me and him just a few days before he passed, for which I feel very very lucky.

He loved a cuddle. Big softie.

    Seiko, my Shetland Sheepdog.
Official names had to start with an R two years ago, so hes Rolly according to the register. Names given because around the same time I got infected by the watch virus.

I ask because a friend of mine has a dog the children called Diego, and as he is not very bright she always regretted they didn't call him Sid

Dont be deceived by his looks.... hes pretty sharp, especially when it comes food and stealing..

We just though Sid suited him.👍

I actually thought he would be the opposite of what his name implies, like Diego is. Chihuahuas are known to be very clever.
I did not make it clear enough, sorry.

No need to apologise... hes only clever at getting his own way... obedience is a completely different scenario... when I tell him to sit, he pretends he cant hear me.. if I call him he goes the other way.. But he is a character so he gets away with murder.

Not a dog but I feel the need to post this.

Our little kitten, Otis, was hit by a car last night and was killed. Not even a year old.

Im a dog man and have always been kinda ambivalent to cats. He changed all that. He was a hooligan, gentleman, snuggler and madman rolled into one. Hard as nails and fearless.

If any cat ever embodied the live fast, die young spirit it was Otis. Sadly. He did die young.

Sleep well you little nutcase. See you on the other side.

Thanks mate. Despite being a cat Im pretty sure he identified as a dog.

Used to wait for Rufus (dog) to go for pee in the morning. Despite having a cat flap.

Used to meow when Rufus barked.

    Odd couple but kinda cool.....

We've been owned by a few cats and dogs over the years - they make a house a home,

Feel for you, 51 weeks to the day that our Henry was taken the same way. We still smile thinking about him on his hind legs fighting a magpie & the fact he was always scavenging in the kitchen bin. Still occasionally well up when I think about him.

Last photo in his sun spot!

He was a legend, Ive had cats all my life, and he was the only one Ive always missed beyond logic.

He was the most human cat Ive ever known & my wife misses him more than me as it was the kitten that chose her - that just makes it worse.

I've lost dogs and cats and it's the same for me, we let them into our lives and they reside in our hearts.
