I have posted this too many times, in similar circumstances.
But this poem helps me every time. I hope it will help you too

    RIP Bags

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
    From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
    Love unflinching that cannot lie—
    Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
    Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But … you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
    Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.

    Beautiful pictures...

    ...and heartbreaking sadness.

Sorry to hear about your dog C, it must be heartbreaking to lose one like this.

I grew up with a boxer dog but never felt inclined to get a dog myself. Fast forward to 2013, my stepdaughter gets a labrador puppy, wifey and I end up looking after him 3 days/ week! Needless to say we’re very attached to him, the dog has two homes and he’s just as happy staying with us, I feel like a dog owner even though we only ‘borrow’ him. When we go on holiday we miss him, we’re always glad to see him when we return.

It’ll be a sad day when his time is up, hopefully he’ll be around for a good few years yet.

    A red dog called Blue.

We have a Bluebell wood locally and when she was 12 weeks old I took her up there for a few photos, May 9th 2017.

Exactly same place and day 12 months on 2018.

That mild winter has brought things forward two weeks.

    She’s a cracker!

The bluebells near us are in full bloom right now too. I was out last night and the woods were carpeted.

Just read about Bags C. Heartbreaking news.

It's an awful thing, done it myself many times.

It may still be very raw but possibly in the future, a new little playmate?

    All the best.
    Cheers,

I think yes, in autumn. I feel a bit meh without a dog and the kids are starting to gear up with puppy chat.

Yeah we still feel very raw, but we know that sometime later we'll meet another friend that's been waiting for us.

In fact, the destroyer of anything I can get my teeth into.

The only disservice a dog does to a man is not live long enough unfortunately
We lost our last black lab at around 15yrs and it’s heartbreaking but time and a new dog is a great healer mate

    A taste for straps!

I foolishly left the leather strap and clasp on the coffee table last night when changing one of my twins boys 556i's for a NATO.

    The result this morning....

Another Irish rescue has joined the pack. Skorpan (Swedish for Zwieback/rusk) is a two year old staffie-mix.

Getting along great with her new big brother. A bit too well since they haven't really understood the concept of rest yet....

We have a new member of the gang...
    Buster, courtesy of Dogs Trust.
Nearly 3 and a real character.
As with most Bulldogs, he had inherited breathing problems and eye problems.
His original owners couldn’t afford what was needed so gave him up.
He’s had his tonsils out, his nostrils re-bored, his adonoydes done, his eyes lifted and his skin fold removed... oh and his nuts off.

He's a belter!! Before we got our boy (Staffie) we tried getting a rescue bulldog but didn't get anywhere with enquiries.
Glad you got a better result and hope Buster enjoys his new life. He certainly seems to have settled right in.

He’s too gorgeous for much of a bollocking. Current tab is one pair of new Grenson’s, one pair of glasses and the Sinn strap.

His predecessor, sadly now gone, ripped the interior of a new VW Golf apart in 10 minutes on the first day we rescued him. £3,000! He didn’t get any bollocking as he had been badly abused in his first 6 months, so much so that 10 years on he still cowed if we picked up a broom or mop even though he’d not been hit once in those years.
