Our old boy Max (l) is 14 now, though he barely seems to know it, Tara (m) is a relative baby at about 6.5, and their friend Rafa (r) the smiley greyhound is 13 now - time sure flies...
Every day is a schoolday! Thanks. We (Dutch) call them 'benches' and always think we're using the correct term! (And yes we know that a bench is also something to sit on).
Back on topic: indeed, non-dog people always question the use of a crate for a dog.
There's a Dutch YT channel https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...nschool+online . The owner/trainer has posted tons of very good videos about all kinds of things, including crate training. Our current dog is the first one that sleeps in a crate at night. And we followed his online suggestions. That worked from the first step. Exactly right. The reason this dogs sleeps in a crate, is the fact that we now have cats as well. The dog will try to eat the cat food during the night when he gets the chance.
Apart from the YT channel, the guy has a great webshop as weil. Not in English (yet). But as always, I'm more than willing to help if you need something from his shop. (I have no connection other than that I'm a happy client) https://www.hondenshop.nl/?gad_sourc...0aAkVaEALw_wcB

Just thought this might be the best 'thread' to 'assist' our daughter & SiL with their new venture
We are using the products and they really are lovely and have had many compliments, so can't be bad....
Cheers, Peter

Gare du Nord, Paris. Around 5pm. Rush hour. A guy with a King Charles Spaniel. Nothing special you say? It was NOT on a leash and followed the man at 20cm distance through the crowd.
The worse thing? The dog’s hair was dyed PINK from the neck to the tip of its tail. I was shocked!
(For a few seconds I was shocked; then two ladies walking in front of me were ‘jumped’ by two undercover cops and arrested. It took less than 30 secs).
Early morning swim to catch the sunrise.

My Rottweiler doesn’t swim when the temps are lower again. He normally splashes into our forest pond. But only when it is hot. Rottweilers normally don’t swim I heard.

Oh so sad. But I really hope that my dog’s end will be the same. Peaceful, no pain. While sleeping after a walk.
Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Made harder for you as you had no time to prepare, but what a great way to go for Alfie, with no pain for him and after doing stuff he probably loved.

The last thing you want them to do is suffer and he obviously didn’t.
The trouble for us is the less they suffer, the more we feel the grief.
When we listen to ours (seven years ago now), through all the pain and guilt, I had to keep telling myself that it was his time and we had given him a good life.
For some reason every time I try and edit my post it deletes it. Last go
We lost our Alfie on Wednesday. It was a total shock as although he was 12 he was fit and healthy. He had been for a walk in the morning and had breakfast. I was on a work call between 10-11 and when I came off went to find him and thought he was asleep on the sofa but he had passed away. We are more than gutted.
Hopefully he’s up there with our German Shepherd, Lola who we lost two years ago
I’m so sorry for your loss Andy
…but what a way to go.
Run free Alfie
So sorry to hear that Andy, I can’t imagine how you must be feeling.
Aw man, so sad and yet also the best of ways for Alfie to go. Sounds like he had a wonderful life right up till the very end.
Came out of a puddle like Willard emerging from the river to kill Kurtz. But smelt worse.
And couldn’t be more pleased with herself ?
Sad sad losses!
Who’s got the cartoon about the loss of a dog. I’m sure it was on this thread somewhere but can’t find.
Sadly lost our little Staff Ruby at 7.30 this morning to a heart condition that wiped her out within 2 weeks of discovering it, still shaking. Loved her so much 💔
3-months old today:

So sorry to hear this.
Although it may sound a bit callous I think (quoting Neil Young), It's "better to burn out than to fade away."
My previous EBT Deana died immediately following a heart attack. Shocking at the time but preferable to a long lingering death IMO.
RIP Deana and Ruby.
Cheers,
Neil.
Thank you for kind words all, and apologies to Andy, I hadn’t read the most recent posts before I posted . Very sorry for your loss too xx
Sorry to hear about losing Ruby. Maybe this is the cartoon you were thinking of.

Cute! Bit more work than a cat but so worth it.

This is Walter - a four month old 'Old English Mastiff'
He joined us on November 2nd, and has made himself at home.
We had an Old English over 20 years ago, with a dearly missed Bull Mastiff in between.
Some shots of him at 10-12 weeks and with four generations of champion OEM.
The washing machine is a constant source of amusement.
