A well used Heuer. What would you do it if it was yours?

I rather like these early 80's Heuer's. This one's from 1984, works fine, and has been well loved/used as you can see.

I was thinking of simply changing the crystal and sizing the bracelet.

But, what would you do with the crown? It appears to have been well nibbled

    Would you relume?

Replace the hands (where the lume - possibly a relume has crumbled and the metal is tarnished?

    Anything else?

Service it, replace the crystal and crown. I would leave the rest and just enjoy the evidence if its life :-)

Duncan at Genesis replaced a scratched crystal and damaged crown on an old Tag Heuer 1000 for me last year. He did a great job at a very reasonable price.

Indeed. It would be interesting to see how they'd refinish it though.

I've got to think this one through as I like a watch with character so don't want to ruin that.

I cant offer any advice ...sorry! Id like to ask a question though! What sort of price (approx.!) would you be looking at , to get a watch like that re stored? (by an independent? I ask only because , Ive sometimes seen watches for sale (Indeed I was once offered a lovely watch in a poor condition by a work mate.....but that was last year! when I wasn't "into" watches!). So for example, if a watch like the O.P.s was sent off for say... a new crystal new hands and general "tidy up" what sort of prices is one looking at?

Sorry if Im hijacking the original post.!

Replace the crystal, size the bracelet so you can wear it and forgot about the rest for now - IMHO. I like these watches, but they're never been "classics".

Wondering why people with no interest in watches are on a watch forum?

It's scrap mate. I have a large bin if you want to post it to me, I'll dispose of it for you......

    Only kidding!

I'd do NOTHING except put it on a NATO and use it. Job done.

How funny. Exactly what I did today. On a Bond Nato, I'm not convinced, but I'm sure I have a black one that will fit somewhere.

Christ on a bike, if it was a classic e-type Jaguar you would want it to look like new, you wouldn't drive the bloody thing around covered in rust would you?
So why in gods name do people covet crappy old dials, have it restored back to its glory days, and wear the thing with real pride.

A rat look e-type - now that would be quite something.

As for this Heuer, it's getting a new crystal and then it will be worn with pride.
