    Free Nomos Strap

I received a letter today from Nomos introducing the Ahoi watch and an offer of a free strap.

Cool, just follow the link and email customer services, choose red, black or blue.

    http://www.nomos-store.com/en/NOMOS-Strap/

    But don't tell everyone.
    Cheers,

    Ben

    Just requested a black one.

This may be a daft question but what's the actual point of this strap?

Doesnt look like it could be converted into a watchstrap, so would you actually wear it or is it just to have a freebie to maybe sell on eBay in a couple of years?

    Am I missing something obvious?

    I think it's just because it's free!! :-).

It's much too small to be used as a watch strap. Basically a Nomos wristband.

Do I need one? No. Did I request one? Yes. After all it might come in useful for something.

    Thanks op.

Looks like it can be used like a NATO strap to me. Not sure how big it is though.

You might not be a "scrounging gypsy" but apparently you are casually homophobic.

The homophobic ones are usually closet gays, I suspect he wears highly polished Dr Martens boots as well

Thanks, ordered a black one, they look (a bit) like the concert entry straps so I can pretend to be hip enough to have gone to at least one concert this summer...

I'm a big fan of Nomos and a big fan of free stuff but I couldn't bring my self to get one of these. I can't think of a use for it.

    Dear Mr. Carlton-Browne,

Many thanks for your message–we're glad to hear you would like a NOMOS strap! We will, if possible, make sure it is your favorite color as well–despite high demand, we are trying to fulfill all requests for specific colors. However, please do not be very disappointed if we don’t quite manage to do this. In any case, the NOMOS strap will be making its way to you very shortly. We hope that you enjoy it–and lovely summer days with NOMOS on your wrist.

    Best wishes from Glashuette,
    Sophie Grosch

Hmmmm....it might be free but I can't see it being used. For me, it would just be something else to add to the "drawer of crap" in the kitchen!

Are we going to see a Friday thread with these being worn?!

Bad news, chaps. Mine has just arrived and it's the tattiest bit of braided plastic you can imagine. It's also 12mm lug width so unless you've got an old trench watch and no taste then I'm not sure what you're going to do with it. Apologies for the quick iphone pics.

What were they thinking? Other than somebody in marketing had a personal appraisal objective of doubling the size of their mailing list.

I think it was left over crap from a previous event that were otherwise going in the skip. Maybe give it to your cat as a collar?!

I should add that there is also a very nicely printed and bound brochure. Obviously it lists the current collection but also has some useful reference pages on the movements they use.

Oh well, mine is still to come. On the other hand, I ordered their catalogue and a bookmark. These arrived within a couple of days or ordering and certainly give a better impression of the brand.

Funny as mine arrived today and very excitedly opened the envelope only to be presented with what can only be described as a piece of useless tat.

This from a brand that I have always like for their quality could be very detrimental to their potential customers.

Imagine you are not familiar with their watches but liked the style, you write to them about the new Ahoi watch and they send you this.

Would put many off from buying a watch as it gives the impression of cheap and tacky.
    Cheers,

    Ben

Just landed. Impressed with the stamps! But yes, they missed a trick here. If it were 18mm: "Nice strap, where did you get it from?" "Nomos."

I sincerely hope that it isn't the same material as the strap they've put on the Ahoi! It scratches my wrist so much I might as well put jam on my wrist and punch the wasps nest in my roof.

Still haven't received anything. Not that I'm looking forward to it any more.

Not in line with what I'm hearing about Nomos in general which is a shame.

It was free, what do you expect? I think people have every right to complain about something they paid for if it's poor quality - but this is completely free, and not their fault that you had high expectations of it.

There appears to be some evidence to suggest that they are very similar.

Ive got a trench watch that needs a strap!

  49. #49

    Lost in translation?

The free bracelet** (and indeed the strap on the Ahoi) is, if I remember correctly, meant to remind wearers of the swimming pool locker key wristlets they had as a child. Perhaps this just doesn't evoke the same nostalgia in British swimmers, who either had elastic bands to wear, or those large nappy pins to secure their locker keys...?

**I can't remember if this was marketed as a strap or a bracelet. I think it was obvious that it was the latter, but I'm getting on, and my memory is increasingly fallable.

ETA: Apparently my typing is as slow as the rest of me. Half a dozen people have made this comment since I began composing this reply. Hey ho.

Given that it was a freebie I am surprised that folk expected much more.
