Now THAT'S a watch that's been worn and enjoyed
Just arrived (after buying it from very poor pictures): a nice Doxa Sharkhunter 300T. Obviously in need of a lot of TLC and a serious bath. Case and hands will be redone, movement serviced, new plexi and perhaps a new (old) BOR bracelet. The current one is from a brand (Expandro) which has been delivered on Doxas but I don't think this one was original. It has the expanding clasp though. Bezel is better than expected so all by all I'm happy! BTW: the guy I bought it from found it at a flea market so I assume he had a very nice return....

I love the watch, but boy is that in need of a good clean up.
I feel a labour of love coming up, followed by a proud unveiling of the restored item :D
Regular updates are always welcome :)
Well: it was on my desk for about half an hour and now in the mail again. I'll post new pictures when it returns from the watchmaker (in a week or 2-3).
Looking forward to updates.
GearPatrol have a nice little article on it.
Congrats!Needs some care, but you will love it more...
Please,before and after photos
@Uday: thanks!
The bezel seems to have left over from yellow paint on it but all DSH 300T's I see on the web don't have the yellow?
Bloody hell that looks fantastic, what a transformation love it.
Must admit if that would have hit Sales Corner in exactly that condition, I'd have been reaching for the PM botton.
Cheers

Me too but the opening of the package is still stressfull...
The glass will be a problem, there aren't stepped crystals available anymore. You'll have to have your watchmaker glue two together.
Look forward to the results!
Good question. I can just say that both Dominique Wieland and Jack Alexyn both have done the sandwich method on some I've brought back from the grave.
It looks like milling glass is a fairly standard operation on thick pieces - like bevelling or chamfering shop-front sized panes of glass - but there doesn't seem to be any information on doing it to something as relatively delicate as a watch crystal.
I would guess it can be done, but it would be dependant on finding the right source piece to work on. Certainly the bonding option would seem to be the easiest option ;)
Could you not get the original polished ?
Cheers

Don't think so. Previous owner must have been a welder or so.
I doubt it was being worn when in that condition. Most likely rattling around in the bottom of a tool box or something from the look of it.

Really cool catch!
Watchmaker was busy but now he's almost finished!

After:
wow thats brilliant. How has he got on with the glass? Is the face cleaner? It seems a hell of a lot better.
Love these old Doxas
excellent job and a great looking watch
Yes, yes, yes!
That's coming along fantastic!
I really quite want one of these now :)
Great job by the watchmaker! Whom did you use?
Great watch, BTW. Looks terrific now it's cleaned up.
Thanks guys! The watchmaker is a local (Dutch) one. I don't know whether he polished the glass or put in a new one.
That's a fantastic result. "Before" looks like it was found in the belly of a great white 18 months after it had taken of it's hunter's arm..
Now looks lovely!
Very nice.
I've got a 300T, great watches IMO.

Picking it up this weekend and I can't wait :-)
Fantastic! That looked like it was beyond rescue but now it looks amazing!
Great looking watch!
That looks amazing!
That looks great, but the chance of restoration does not surprise me, those 300Ts were serious hunks of steel and thick screwed down glass crystals. It takes a lot to do anything more than cosmetic damage to them.

That was my idea as well so I dared to buy it!
And to give you an idea how thick the glass is:
Well done. That did turn out nice. Can't wait to see it on the bracelet when it arrives!
Wow. So nice to see a sympathetic refurb. I'd be cockahoop to get that back in it's newold condition.
