Canvass or leather fishing or shooting bag, plenty of pockets, good thick shoulder strap and not too gay looking.
It should hold a 12" laptop, iPad + a little extra.

Try http://www.epicmilitaria.com/product...arge-pack-grey - good quality. If you want something in leather try a soviet map case of the bay.
I have a couple of la coste ones I got when I worked for samsonite (they make la coste luggage) they still do a few good ones http://shop-uk.lacoste.com/Bags/5311000,en_GB,sc.html
What ever you go for just avoid saying 'you are awful, but I like you':)
Make one! You're a leatherworker :)
Try and find a Belstaff Colonial. The mid-size one will do the job you want.
I bought one earlier in the year from SC and it was worth every penny!
Buy a rucksack and man up ;)
It's just a matter of time...
Belstaff, seconded.....
don't
Visconti do decent leather messenger bags. There was a thread in the last few months in the same subject with some good suggestions in it that would be worth looking out.

'JOST' - google it. Not many available in the UK but take a chance and order one online.
Not bad
Found this one or is too retro sporty?

Billingham Hadley Pro. Mine goes all over the world with me.
I bought one of these
from Minneapolis airport - for traveling light.
Incredible quality for the price ($89 for soft leather) & perfectly fits my 13" laptop, iPad & Moleskin notebook

Troop London do nice stuff and good value at under £40
Also loads of canvas camera bags some with a tablet pouch on e-bay
They were de rigueur at the grammar school I attended in the early '70s; known there as 'haversacks'. Mine was identical to the one in the pic on that site.
The custom was to paint the flap, usually an album cover or band logo would be replicated there, but sometimes a football club emblem was favoured. I didn't have the necessary artistic skills, sadly.

there's the link you need
Having said that, this is what I have does the trick for not much cash tough as old boots

How about Jack Bauer's man-bag?
Can be had from Amazon for not too much.......
I went for a Maxpedition Mongo from Heinnes. Has loads of pockets and appears to be nearly indestructible.

Jost is great quality and well thought out. Can be pricey though (esp compared to £6 for the haversack!) so depends on what you're happy to spend. Think Selfridges stock Jost and they have a couple of shops in London too.
www.knomobags.com normally offer good quality products.
There is also www.etsy.com/uk/ for hand crafted goods, though it would involve taking a chance...
I'd go for a Rothco Canvas Messenger Bag which found fame in 24 with it being the bag of choice for Jack Bauer

Have a look at http://www.carryology.com/ for inspiration. They're usually featuring something a bit different than what you can find at the high street.
i just bought one as my hand luggage for my honeymoon, was all set for a barbour but they dont zip close and if ive got my laptop in it i really wanted it to, plus they dont have any padding for protection (look fantastic though)
i went for a timberland:
http://www.timberlandonline.co.uk/on...en_accessories
they have a sale on too
I have a Crumpler Silver Dig XL.
I use this for my camera as I don't like to advertise the fact that I am carrying about 7 grand worth of camera gear with me by using a proper camera bag.
It is very strong and looks ok.

I have a bag by hidesign, they get my recommendation
Case, Map and Photograph, MIL-C-12316 (8460-00-368-4281)
FURNISHED ITEMS: Shoulder Sling
OVERALL LENGTH: 12.50 inches nominal
OVERALL WIDTH: 12.00 inches nominal
SPECIAL FEATURES: With three map and 9 photograph envelopes, olive drab, US Army shade 7

Great timing! The strap on the other end of my current one has given way (the metal holder is too big for the phallus ) and I'm looking for a new one.
My current one is from Reiss - they do some nice ones too - really good value if in the sale as not quite worth th 150 quid plus they charge otherwise. It's lasted me 4 years and me overloading it with stuff.
Can't complain for a fiver : http://www.ark.co.uk/item/cloak-and-...ck-satchel/HLF
Try Porsche Design, some may find them pricier but they are super durable and very classy. Suitable for business meetings and more casual uses.
Braun buffel very good quality and long wearing
I second the Timberland recommendation. I have had one of their messenger bags for 7 years and have used it as my daily work bag. It has padding for a laptop, lots of internal pockets, zippered compartments and a host of other goodies. It is the best work-bag I have ever had. Despite not being overly large, it has a great, full sized pocket on the back that is large enough to hold a dress shirt, 1 pair of underwear, a pair of socks and a tie, making it suitable for an overnight bag for a one day business trip. It might not look like a million bucks, but it holds everything and is very comfortable to carry even when stuffed.
Cheers,
Jay
Get a Billingham, lots of pockets and two colour choices ,khaki or black, job done.
