I've not heard a pair of Beats by Dre that have actually sounded decent. These won't be any different. But if like them, then go for them. No doubt there'll be a considerable mark up just to have the 2 brand names on there.

I don't get all this branding rubbish - do people still fall for it? - buy a watch from a watchmaker, suits from a tailor, scent from a perfumerie, and headphones from a hi-fi company. I'm sure Nike make good trainers, sennheiser make headphones, Gucci great leather goods etc - IMHO all these brand extensions just cheapen the companies who associate themselves with it, and the results always have the same thing in common - overpriced, flashy and not as good as a mid-priced product from a specialist brand

I tried listening through a pair of these at a demo stand at an airport recently. I'm no audiophile but I think I know good sound quality when I hear it. These headphones were surprisingly underwhelming on that front which, given what they're charging, means a rip-off which many seem to be falling over themselves to pay for.
The slack-jawed mouth-breathers can't get enough of them...some even wear them as a fashion accessory without actually ever using them!
For what it's worth, Beats headphones sound even worse than they look.

Beats are pretty good headphones. Check out the reviews in places like Stereophile if you dont believe me. you will see that Im not alone in this view. Repeating other peoples ignorant prejudices doesnt make you look any wiser you know...
I was given a pair. I have compared them to others which I own, both more and less expensive. They sound terrible. I threw them away. Deal with it.
Sure there are better cans out there and Beats tend to be poor VFM but if you think they sound terrible then you demonstrate that your opinion is pretty suspect on the subject as you are talking nonsense.

stereophile have a pair of beats in Class D of their 2013 recommended components list. While they are not what I would buy Im merely providing a counterpoint to the snobbish dismissals that are not entirely warranted and can point to evidence that i am not alone in the conclusion i have reached after auditioning these and many many other headphones.
Same question to you: what would you recommend as good then? What was wrong with the Beats?

It's good that AP are trying to get more exposure and popularity which may well strengthen them for the future, but sacrificing their dignity for something branded with a rapper's name is very sad indeed. Good job they were only limited run promotional items.
BTW snobbery is essential or everything will be turned to shit. You've got to draw a line somewhere.

I didn't realise my comments would start a little slagging war. That was never my intention. I don't consider myself an audiophile, and I'm basing my opinion on the Denon headphone I bought for my girlfriend. They were a £100 (so half the price of Dre's) but sound a lot better. I prefer earphones and use Shure SE530 which sound infinitely superior to any Dre’s I’ve heard, but then again they also cost a lot more.
So my opinion is based on a level hands (or ears) on experience, and not just a distaste in the branding.
Did not sound crisp at all to my ears. Muffled sound.
I have Sennheiser in-ear earphones that sound better (about 40 quid).
Like I say, I'm no audiophile to be able to compare other brands at a stroke but these in isolation were poor sound quality.
I don't see all the fuss. AP is so totally a rapper's brand au choix that this tie-up makes perfect sense.
I tried some - perhaps the AP badge makes them better because they were OK-ish, a bit honky (ironically).
Made by Monster, branded by Beats, sub-branded by Dr Dre, co-branded by AP.

I didn't realise they were made by Monster. They make good-value interconnects, but I have listened to a pair of fairly expensive Monster 'phones a while ago, and I did find them bass-heavy and not to 'image' very well.
All this is exceptionally subjective, but I hope few could argue that these 3 points aren't correct:
1. Headphone listening is more standardised than auditioning loudspeakers since the effects of room interactions are removed.
2. Headphone 'imaging' is even more of an illusion than stereo imaging by room loudspeakers.
3. The sort of music one likes will greatly influence what 'phones one prefers, in the same way as it does with room speakers. Dr Dre/Monster etc are made to make bass-heavy rap & rock sound even more impressive, and 'imaging' isn't much of a concern. Broadly, Shure/Sennheiser/AKG/Grado etc are made to make classical music sound more 'natural', and to create a 'soundstage'.
I listened to a lot of 'phones around 10 years ago, and I mean a lot.
I chose Sennheiser 600 (on-ear, open back) and Shure E4c (in-ear) on sonic grounds (yes, I mainly listen to classical and acoustic rock/blues via a hi-fi system and a dedicated head-amp). I haven't felt the need to change (and after 58 years of loud music and motorsport these phones are undoubtedly better than my ears).
I also have a pair of Bose SC 15 which have excellent noise-cancelling and are very comfortable, but the sound is nothing to write home about, but who cares on a 747.
For running/gym/cycling and general iPod use I have pairs of Sennheiser PMX70 behind-ear band phones, and a set of MX560 ear-bud phones that are nearly a decade old but still fine: both are usefully better and tougher than Apple's versions. It's a waste of money to invest in top phones if you're listening to low-rate mp3 tracks like most of us do.
I'd add that blind listening tests are almost impossible with headphones since you can always feel differences between them on your ears, never mind through them.

I remember Monster making some fearsomely expensive (and very good) speaker cable in the late '80s/early '90s. I couldn't afford any of it, though. I didn't think headphones were their thing either, but in any event I'm fairly sure the actual manufacture takes place outside California ;).

As I understand it, these were much sought after at SIHH this year. I was (very kindly) given a pair of Richard Mille x Sol Republic Tracks VB 'phones - also from SIHH. While not my usual cup of tea (I'm a Shure IEH owner) the sound was not unimpressive.

Seems audio/headphones can bring out a lot of emotions in some people. Throwing away £200 headphones in frustration when you don't like them, rather than just flogging them on eBay? Right..
Anyway this is just some promotion material, who cares. In the same way nearly every business has giveaway pens, bags, lighters or whatever. Not like they were selling these headphones.
Quite entertaining reading through this, I was having a very similar discussion with a member over on the Seiko Mod thread about snobby comments only to find at the same time last night someone on here was of the same opinion as myself...
As far as the headphones go, not for me, I'll stick with my Sennheiser and Klipsch..
Maybe he is terribly rich which would explain why he only bothers to sell high end items like a Seiko SKX007 or a Tag F1 or a Sigma camera lens...

I had a rigger at a gig, roll in with a pair of these in blue, I asked him to have a go on my Sennheisers, with a track of his choice, he admitted his beats sounded like playing music through Jam (beats do) but said, that it was the 'look'

I don't think that Dr Boss, I mean Judge Dread Headphones are SO bad. They have received a lot of media shit, and have been marketed to within an inch of their dreary existence which means that there are going to be a lot of haters.
They have also been recklessly bootlegged and some of the bootlegs look and feel relatively close to the originals. I have tried several pairs of real and several pairs of fakes. The real ones sound OK but never as brilliant as the marketing suggests (more like a beater than a real watch) and the bootleg ones ALWAYS sound very bad. There are over 6 times as many bootlegs out there as real ones.
The trend in modern music for a certain type of sound has lead to the production of a certain type of headphone that reproduces it. Dr Dre do it well. I guess if you like Music that is deeper, richer and more complex then they don't cut it as well as a superior brand.

I'm serioulsy into headphones.
Sennheiser HD600s , brilliant sound but open backed , had a pair for years replaced the cable and the earcushions once already. Can be worh for hours.
Beyer Dynamic DT250 (250 ohm version) Closest I could get to the HD600s frequency response and closed back; industrial headphones , every bit is replacable. Comfy too.
Shure SE530s ; when I'm on the road; cable lets these down but they sound amazing.
Shure SE535s replaced the 530s with these under warranty from Shure ; I don' think they sound quite as good as the 530s , they suffer from being a litte too revealing but they are still awesome.
Musical Fidelity Xcan V2 headphone amp: totally gutted tjis and replaced all the caps , opamps , potentiometer , sockets , ...everything apart from the breadboard; used it with matched mullard valves.
Also had a dedicated PSU and a dac at one point.
Beats suck , sound like muffled junk , I have a pair of shure se215s for less than £80 as a backup and they sound better than any Beats I've heard let alone the 535s.
