Later I'll go for The Who's Quadrophenia on the turntable. Recently got it after having fallen a bit in love with Who's Next - Bargain is great. Probably some of the Swan Lake afterwards, or perhaps Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat.
If I'm up for it I might take a swing at Tom Waits' Orphans later on.

My music consumption falls into two main types - When I'm working, I pick a playlist off iTunes and usually set it to random - but what I look forward to all day is when I can finally sit and relax at home and start picking the albums to really listen to.
Today I had been looking forward to some Supertramp, probably to be followed by Joe Walsh, but got home to find the family all heading off to bed with rotten colds and steaming headaches so .............
I've just put on Barclay James Harvest - Live Tapes
Next will be John Klemmer - Touch (if you like the sax you should check it out) with a nice glass of Bushmills
Then I think it will be John Martyn - One World

And yes it's all vinyl - Quite apart from the sound, I still love the whole process of selecting and playing an album in this remote control age.
Willow & Love and Affection are two of my all time favourite songs.
Went to see her a couple of years ago, still superb.

I find Tracy Chapman has very much the same feel.
I'm sure she'll put on a good show Geoff but I don't go to concerts anymore. I actually won her album along with another half-dozen in a competition run by the "Sun" newspaper in 1978 plus a couple of tickets for "The Picnic" concert at Blackbushe Aerodrome.

I just picked up a used copy of the Cowboy Junkies' Trinity Sessions.
It has a very nice cover of both Hank Williams' I'm so lonesome and Lou Reed's Sweet Jane. Great stuff :D
But have you had the chance to hear a good analogue system?
Digital is easy, convenient and for most people more than good enough. Most of my music comes from a media server and I love the convenience but if I want to enjoy a piece of music, it has to be analogue.
Just as digital cameras have almost replaced film because they have a big advantage in speed and convenience and for most things are now more than good enough, if you enlarge any digital photo enough you will see jagged edges. If you compare that with a well taken picture using say Ilford Pan F B&W film, you will be able to see a range of tone and detail that digital can never match.
Digital music is no different, if you get right into it, it's made up of a lot of jagged edges. Good analogue, if being listened to, will portray a range of musical tone, emotion and micro acoustics that digital just lacks.
Some people suggest it's a memory thing? Just like we often prefer the original to a cover of a song, because that is how we first heard it, so maybe many of us prefer the sound of analogue because that is the kind of music delivery that got us into our music?

I'm in my mid 20's, so CD's have peen my primary medium for music for most of my life. Just after fiddling around with an old system and some records is when I decided that the LP's sound better. Since then, I've accumulated quite a little collection!

Yesterday afternoon I put on my middle sons Lilly Allen album as it was near my dining room stereo.
Very enjoyable, made a nice change from my usual stuff.
His taste is pretty decent but I would never play any of my youngests stuff which consists of Golgoroth, Kamelot etc and other tuneless growling type music. :?
Typing this, I'm listening to, (and very much enjoying), Le Parc by Tangerine Dream. One I've not played for a long time and the reunion is most enjoyable. :) :)
