Anyone for a cheap trackday Thurs 30th MAY - Midlands

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but a couple of times a year I’m involved in organising a sprint / track day for a group from my workplace, mostly turbo engineers.
With vehicles ranging from near scrap heap level to a shiny RS4.

The track is a small, simple sprint track so not the most challenging but all the more fun for it.
It's near Lichfield and we're hiring it out for the whole day privately, 9am-5pm.
We normally run only 1 car on track for 3 laps at a time (about 2minutes or so). With other cars qued in the pits.

As the numbers are a bit light compared to previous years I thought I’d open it up to TZ’ers and see if anyone’s interested? Apologies for the short notice.
Cost is £50-60,depending on final numbers, cost split between us.
No vechicle restrictions, bring whatever you want with however many wheels you want.

So in summary a cheap way to get a LOT of track time for not much money.
    Anyone fancy it?

    Pic from last time.

Yep, that's the place. Good Spot.
We've got the track from 9am-5pm & limit numbers to 15 maximum so you all get a LOT of track time for your money.
We're also a pretty friendly bunch, so multiple passenger rides in allsorts of metal is included for free. Just ask.

If someone hadn't crashed into my boxster I'd bring it over for a bit of fun :(
It's just a matter of time...

Come on sir, you know it'll be ggod fun.
You only need to burn as much rubber as your confortable with.

Spend the rest of the day getting passenger rides, quite a few mx5's coming including a turbo'd one. S2000, westfield, RS4, couple of clio's and some high power Jap coupes too.

The last time I went my mx5 was in the garage, & e36 off the road so I had to take the wifes car.
RX-8 tyres & fuel & oil = £££'s So I stuck to 10 runs, spent the rest of the day getting passeneger rides.

Anyone free should go! Curborough isnt heavy on tyres and they certainly arent going to overheat.

It would be better with new tyres. They are consumables any way.
It's just a matter of time...

Yeah, at £600+ for a set!

Ill pass this time, although I'd already decided on a track day when I'm halfway through the tyres.

If my RS4 was up together (needs suspension overhaul) I'd have snapped this opportunity up!

    Thanks for the interest gents.
It was a cracking day, wet & slippy in the morning, hot and sticky in the afternoon.
I'll get a few pics up later on.

If there's enough interest we could look at a TZ sprint event or Test day?
Obviously give a bit more notice.

    Sounds like a plan :)

    Culbourgh

I've been to this track 2 so far and had a great time on both occasions . It's a small track but still challenging . The best thing is the fact that if you overcook it on a corner or two , there's plenty of run off area ;) .

    Highly recommended guys .

I'll probably be attending again on the 4th of July @ £60 .Great value .

Paul , what was best your times ? I managed 1 min 27 sec for 3 laps !

I've been to this with brand new tyres too LTF . It's a small track that is gentle on car, driver, and tyres . At the end of the day ,if you go relatively gently , no harm will come to them .

Curborough. Definitely easy on tyres though. Not abrasive like an airfield circuit and only doing two laps at a time, the tyres arent ever going to overheat.

I wouldnt expect it to wear my tyres any more than a spirited drive on a deserted road.

This link should show an aerial photograph of Curborough sprint course in Google Maps.

It hasnt changed since I was a boy. My father was a member of the Aston Martin owners club and regularly sprinted there in the 1970s (with a very competitive Dolomite Sprint).

    No times unfortunately.
We just booked a test day (no timing gear), which a few guys were using for setting up kitcars, a few for their first time on track.
TBH in my mx5, with past their best tyres on the rear & a wet track I spent most of the day sideways.

We also tend to stick to the circuit part of the track doing 3-4laps at a time rather than using the full sprint course.

Im afraid that I dont know the times, but they probably wouldnt help as you run differently on these days to a formal sprint.

Missed yesterday's event but I'd definitely be interested in a TZ day... My friend would be too in his S6.
