    Army Issued Rolex Explorer

Someone posted the Sotheby's link on MWR but I think it's worth sharing here. I'd take this over a milsub any day...

Nice! Is that an authentic NATO ? I ask this because I have never seen a really old NATO strap, only relatively recent offerings.

    :)

Great watch, and the markings on back are great too...

Not wishing to bust any bubbles but has this been authenticed by anyone (Mr Hudson at Rolex for example).

Great watch, but I have so many questions.

This would be a very exciting watch though, if and when it's authenticated...

Well, it was authenticated by Sotheby's. Sold on Saturday for £6,400 including buyer's premium.

All auction houses have authenticated all sorts of things in the past which have been shown later to be wrong'ens + £6,400 seems very cheap for such a rare beast. In fact £6400 for a standard gilt explorer seem a bit cheap.

Now off the to the VRF to see what the "power's that B " have to say.

    Sotheby's watch

    Hi,

There is a policy in Sotheby saying that if the watch turns out as not a legit watch, buyer can return for a full refund and definitely it is a protection and also the reason why buyer has confidence in the purchase.

Seems that the 25% premium may worth for buying some uncommon seen rare piece.

The color of the circle T matches the color of Rolex and Explorer, shouldn't a later add-on.

A question is whether Rolex can find out more details about this watch?? The S/N number can help??

    Many thanks!

    Hans

I like the minute hand, with the fine tip actually touching the minute markers. Not seen that before on a Rolex.

    Mil Explorer

    Hi,

The watch is quite original in all aspect, handset, color of the dial and also the marking, while the plexi is original with best match of the bezel.

I do like this vintage Explorer, still have the shadow of vintage bubble back...

The circle T color matches the overall tone and colour...

    Really a nice watch!

    Best regards,

    Hans

Holy cow that is amazing. £6400 seems really cheap.

Another nice watch from that auction:

    Agree

Both watches are very rare but to me the 1016 (if not viewing the case back) is same as other 1016 while this Military Explorer has both dial and caseback look very different from the production one. The good thing is that the condition is original and without any additional modification.

To me, both watches are super cool and unique pieces.

    Best regards
