The Fundraiser is dead - long live the Fundraiser!

The TZ-UK Fundraiser is now closed and has raised a magnificent £11,401.76 - well done everyone! Although the page is now closed, you can still see details here -
    http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/TZ-UK

The new Fundraiser page can be accessed via the "Virgin" banner beside the TZ-UK clock at the top of the page or directly at
    http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/TZ-UK2

The new Fundraiser will run until 31 May 2013 and the selected charities are:

Combat Stress Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society

    http://www.combatstress.org.uk/

    Claire House Children's Hospice

    http://www.claire-house.org.uk/

    SSAFA Forces Help

    http://www.ssafa.org.uk/about-us/

    RNLI

    http://rnli.org/Pages/Default.aspx

    Canine Partners

    http://www.caninepartners.org.uk/

Three of the suggestions for inclusion in the fundraising list could not be included for one or both of the following reasons:

    1. Difficult to identify because there are other organisations with identical or similar names to the one provided.
    2. Not registered with Virgin Money Giving.

If you have a suggestion for the next fundraiser, please:

    1. Provide the full registered name.
    2. Provide the registered charity number.
    3. Check that they are registered with Virgin Money Giving.

The first Fundraiser was a huge success, please ensure that this one is too.

    Thanks,

    Eddie

Congrats for Fundraiser the First :)

I think it's much to be appreciated that it's not just a punctual event but a continuous effort.

All great charities but Claire House is particularly close to my heart. Nice one, Eddie!

Wow. Great total and delighted there was room for Claire House Children's Hospice this time around.

Just had a closer look and with gift aid it's £14k!!!

    All great news.

That is a great choice for the new fundraiser.

Regarding future fundraisers, I do think that at least two of any five future fund raising charities should be UK wide, just like the present selection. It just makes things fair as UK contributors are from every part of the UK.

My first choice is The Alzheimer's Society. Having worked and lived with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia for over fifteen years, the families do need all the support they can get too.

Out of interest, what's the target this time?
£10k was amazing for a kick off, but I sincerely doubt we'll hit that every month (sadly) unless a fee for SC is imposed?

Is £5k a realistic monthly target?

Interesting you say that, it's possible to make SC a "paid subscription only" forum in vB. It's more likely now than it was a month ago.

    Oh no!

Actually rather than a subscription I think a levy as a percentage of sales would be the ticket (I don't know how easy it would be to implement) as then the people who gain the most by selling multi thousand pound watches on a regular basis whilst avoiding ebay charges would pay more than the poor sod who occasionally sells a pair of secondhand socks or whatever.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Fantastic achievement, who really cares about watches anyway - there are much more important things to consider. This is really what matters!

The fundraiser closed on 30 September 2013, having raised £5867.01 (£7160.24 including gift aid). a splendid effort once again.

I've reactivated the first fundraising page to run up to Christmas and would like to see the grand total hit £20,000.

You can click through from the banner at the top of the forum pages or if you can't see the banner, the link is: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/TZ-UK

    Let the fundraising begin.

Am I right in thinking that the fundraiser has raised just over £30k since it was first opened? Really impressive effort to Eddie and all that have contributed.

1000 donations now, totalling more than £21k!

In fact £26,000+ with gift aid.

That's some accomplishment even if it took a year to get there!

Time to start a fresh one Eddie?

There was also another one which raised £5867 before gift aid.

Amazing. I should add, too, that there was close to £1k in TZ donations to the fundraiser that was started in memory of my son - I was quite overwhelmed by that, and immensely grateful.

A small donation is worth it for the advice and support available on here.

The daily entertainment and internet humour is priceless.
And I have had several bits, bobs, and spare parts donated free of charge from the members here.
    - Ingersol 302 movement
    - Soki watch (with auto movement)
    - 4BA brass screws to fix up my ships compass.

Some of the items I can't find anywhere else:
So a small £10 contribution every now and again isn't going to break the bank.

Just curious, any plans on starting over on the fundraiser front?
This one has been running since December 2015 and if I recall the first one ran a couple of years and netted £40k, (this one is touching £70,000 as well).
I just wondered if there was any plan to swap the charities about and kick off anew.

The Fundraiser is dead - long live the Fundraiser!

I had to scroll down to post #24 in the sticky to find the link to current fundraiser, after trying the now obsolete ones before it. Not including the link Eddie gave above of course.

Perhaps somehow make it easier to find? I know the banner is there but not with adblocker (commonly used) or on Tapatalk which I personally use.

Can the forum software add ‘fundraiser text’ below any post made within SC? Probably not but that would certainly raise awareness.

I also agree it could be a lot easier to find the fund raiser. I had a problem where I made a payment from an old link and even had a mail confirming it, no money left my account though. I had a game finding this link because I only use my phone I only get my laptop out once a year if I need to print something, so no banners come up, no links etc. Couldn’t there be a sticky at the top of every sub forum, watch talk, for sales, George..... etc to the latest link? And close it to replies? Just a thought.

Virgin Money Giving are a not-for-profit organisation but donations are subject to a 2% platform fee, and a 2.5% payment processing fee to cover their running costs. There are no monthly charges for charities, or any charges on Gift Aid. Supporters can elect to cover the costs for the charity when donating.

    Gotcha…. Makes sense…

I’ve donated numerous times and never noticed it before…

I must have misremembered, but, I was under the impression that Branson set this up as a free platform to support fundraising I.e. beyond a not for profit (swallowing payment charges would be a bit rough though)
