Thread: Basel World

  1. #1

    Basel World

Ok - there have been a few posts about new watches expected for this year - so perhaps a single thread is in order.

What are your predictions or leaks for new models next month?
It's just a matter of time...

Not a watch but a strap, Breitling pro diver III,

The Breitling name is not slanted like the Pro 1, it's fitted to the ltd edition Breitling Frecce Tricolori Chronomat 44 Limited Edition Watch a 1000 made but breitling a releasing the strap.

    link and another picture

    http://www.watchalyzer.com/breitling...edition-watch/

had the chance of an early 24mm but missed it Breitling only had one, Bankslyons reckon there available but all gone 1 of each size 20,22,24. there is a better picture but i think it's been taken down.

Been told to expect something good from Ulysse Nardin. Someone hinted at something similar to their trilogy set from a few years but haven't had anything official.

I would also expect a new Daytona with a RRP close to £10K.

Would be nice if there was a new Breitling Emergency. It's been 'in progress' for a while now.

I was in Andrew Michaels up in Newark yesterday (Breitling AD) and one of the guys in there seemed pretty convinced Breitling would be announcing a new Emergency at Basel.

    Hope so!

I'm on the lookout for a Mission, so I'll be interested to see. But I've heard that something is due for the last 4 years.

A new Breitling Emergency would be good :)

I am contemplating going in person so I can take in all the watches - it would probably mean buying a camera though and I'm not sure I can change the habit of a lifetime.

    I keep saying it - but I'd love to see a 42mm 2000m Red Sea-Dweller.
It's just a matter of time...

Definitely a new daytona...I guessing a return to the original designs. Similar to what they did with the Explorer last year.

A new Daytona would be good, but prices would be substantially elevated from today's rrp.

OK - so lets turn this into a what do we expect to see, and who might be going in person to see them?

I am 90% that I will be there - so happy to meet up one day for a mini or maxi Basel GTG - bit more exotic than my usual North West GTG :)

Patek Philippe to bring out a 48mm Ceramic annual calendar.

Hublot to bring out an understated, time only Big Bang

Omega to announce 'no more limiyted edition Speedys ever'

Rolex and Panerai to announce 25% price decreases across the range.

    Well it could happen.....

Blue accented rather than green I hear, and I've got a deposit in already!

Why so high from the current £7,950?

If/when they do bring out something "new" for Daytona I'd expect a 10-15% premium tops maybe.

Just a hunch Gareth. Another price rise in the year and the 116520 will be around £8500 so there could be a real possibility of it knocking on the door of £10K. Much will also depend on how far they decide to go with the revamp whenever it's introduced.

The top two I could believe, but the third...

Breitling dropped its UK prices a while back because they went too hard and started charging £3,000 for a base Superocean. Also a few manufacturers dropped their Canadian retail prices (in response to an appreciating C$) a few years ago; sales were falling rapidl with people driving to the US to buy the same watch for 40% less. So it does happen.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Itll be a lot more than 10k... but thats because the first model will always be in solid 18k or possibly platinum.

Steel "new" daytona is at least 3 basels away... And by then 10k for a steely might seem like a steal(!). If Patek can get away with 15k or whatever for a steel nautilus with a fragile movement with a few hand polished bevels... then that might seem perfectly reasonable by then?

Funny old world, the watch biz.

There is already a gold Daytona with ceramic bezel. I don't know how much it is but I would hues at a new SS Daytona with ceramic bezel and an improved bracelet & clasp will be someway north of £10k.

Yeah but same size and no bracelet though... so u reckon ceramic two tone this year on 50th?

Usually everyones wrong about Rolex new models though. May be something completely different, or nothing at all except diamond clad variations of current models.

They'll certainly do something for the Daytona's half-century anniversary. Platinum for the 50th would be spectacular. It would make sense to offer their top sports model in Pt; I wouldn't be too surprised if the "blue accented" (like platinum Day-Dates) thing mentioned a few posts up pans out. I hope they manage to resist their recent urge to bloat the dimensions, at least restrain it to a reasonable degree.

BTW, the basic steel Nautilus is more like £20K. The watch business is a strange one indeed.

So Baselwork begins tomorrow. How long normally until the 'big' announcements are made, by that i'm talking about Rolex. Should we expect to hear the rumblings tomorrow or are they likely to hold off a couple days?

Great topic and question, to be honest I don't care anymore as everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and the prices will be hideous.
