My first Rolex Rolex... DJ 1601

I own two vintage Rolex Tudor watches, but this is my really first Rolex Rolex...

I like the dark gray dial in combination with the brown leather vintage strap. A perfect combination for me. What do you guys think?

On the background with my sub:

The hands haves some scratches, maybe I get them polished in the future... But hey it's a watch was born in '69.

Lovely, although I would put it on a more refined, tapered strap.

What he said. Great watch but a mismatch with the strap.

    That dial is a stunner.

I'd stick it on a slender matt black croc strap.

    Thanks for the input!

The concept for this was: dare to be different... :D I even don't try a black strap on it, because I love this combination.

I will try it on the black one this week! Photo will be shown up.

This one is a 36mm. The Datejust is always 36mm I think and the Date is the smaller one, 34mm.

    Cheers! Glenn

Thanks, you must be made-up with that. Also, as a fan of old brown/tan straps.. I know that sometimes a combo like that doesn't look right in a photo, but on the wrist it's perfect. I like the look Oh, and some more pics of that dial please

Well that's a brilliant choice for your first Rolex. Absolutely stunning on all fronts!

The dial is hard to make photo's off... I made 10 photo's, but this one was the only good one. By some angels the writing gets 'lost' between the shade of the dial. Or maybe it's just because I'm a noob on making photographs.

But I will do my best.

    Cheers! Glenn

I've really started to like vintage Datejusts recently, particularly for the the fluted bezel and as my enthusiasm for both bi-metal and gold watches has grown in recent months I've actually become quite fond of the DJ as a more affordable alternative to the Day-Date "President" I've been lusting after for some weeks now.

For what it's worth I don't think it looks too bad on brown leather, in fact I think it looks quite good, but as others have said it would definitely benefit from a more tapered strap.

Ah right, so is it a metallic sunburst dial then?

As others have said, I am not a fan of the strap/watch combo, but the watch is great
